But Shalise Leesfield isn't one ofthem. The Australian teenager couldn't think of a better creature to meet when scuba diving off the coast of South West Rocks, near her home in Port Macquarie, a coastal town north of Sydney. “Many people say gray nurse sharks look frightening, but I think they are the sweetest animals,” she says. The slow-moving sharks, which like to stay near the seafloor in warm, shallow waters, are—for the most part—harmless to humans. But the gray nurse shark is under threat. Populations have decreased and habitats have been lost due to ocean warming and human development, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN), which lists the species as seriously endangered. One area where they can still be seen is Fish Rock, an underwater cavern(大洞穴) with a unique ecosystem, 40 miles up the coast from Leesfield's home. But fishers are allowed access within 200 meters of Fish Rock. This is leading to a drop in the number of gray nurse sharks and is increasing pollution, says Leesfield. She wants to enlarge the no-fishing area, establishing a protected zone. With Leesfield's efforts, the area has been nominated as Hope Spot, which is part of the mission Blue Program launched by famous oceanographer Sylvia Earle that identifies places as critically important to the ocean's health and supports protection. “When people think about Hope Spot, they think about Sydney Harbour or the Great Barrier Reef. So to get Fish Rock up on that list is just such incredible news,” she says. Now, Leesfield is working with politician Cate Faehrmann, marine spokesperson for the Australian Greens in New South Wales, to legalize protection of the sharks and make the no-fishing zone protected by the law. 1.What does the underlined word “them” refer to in the first paragraph? A.Gray nurse sharks. B.Common people. C.People fearing gray nurse sharks. D.Fishers. 2.What has led to gray nurse sharks' being seriously endangered? A.The development of tourism in the ocean. B.The sharks' preference to stay in shallow waters. C.The feature of gray nurse sharks' slow movement. D.Fishers' being permitted within 200 meters of Fish Rock. 3.What will Leesfield and Faehrmann do to protect gray nurse sharks? A.Recommend Fish Rock as Hope Spot being protected. B.Identify the Hope Spot area as critically important. C.Make Fish Rock more popular among nearby fishers. D.Make laws to protect the no-fishing zone near Fish Rock. 4.Which can be the best title of the article? A.The Australian teenager is on a mission to protect gray nurse sharks B.Increased pollution leads to gray nurse sharks being endangered C.Gray nurse sharks are in danger D.Let's establish a protected zone Ⅱ.七选五 (2026河南南阳六校期中联考)(拓展语篇) There's magic in travel, and it's obvious. Whether you're flying to a dream place or taking a road trip, the joy of travel has a way of lighting up your soul. 1 It's not just the change of scenery or the chance to escape your daily life—though those help! Let's explore the deeper reasons behind why travel brings us so much happiness.  Life can sometimes feel like a never-ending cycle of responsibilities—work, chores, and commitments. 2 That freedom fuels a sense of relaxation and adventure, relieving stress and boosting your mood. Plus, breaking free from routine helps you appreciate the little things when you return home.   Travel brings you closer to people, whether by bringing you closer to travel partners or by making friends with locals. 3 Human connection is a fundamental source of happiness, and travel is the perfect avenue(方法) for it.  Stepping into unfamiliar places can be discouraging, but with each new trip, you grow more confident in your ability to deal with the unknown. Whether it's figuring out a new subway system, or overcoming a language problem, travel challenges you to be resourceful and adaptable. 4    5 When you're standing before a breathtaking sunset, wandering through busy markets, or hiking up a mountain trail, it's hard to think about anything else. This presence in the moment is a key contributor to happiness, as it reduces anxiety and allows you to fully appreciate the beauty around you.  A.Travel pulls you into the present. B.The more you explore, the more insignificant you feel. C.Travel exposes you to new sights, sounds, and cultures. D.But have you ever wondered why it makes you so happy? E.And with every challenge you overcome, your confidence grows. F.Travel allows you to escape into a world free of deadlines and alarms. G.These connections often result in unforgettable stories and precious memories. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.        Ⅲ.完形填空 (2024广东惠州期末) Clark, a bald eagle(秃鹰), is a frequent commercial flier. He takes at least six trips a year. When the plane touches down, the 1 will often announce to the cabin, “The bald eagle has 2 .”  Like many passengers who touch down in the nation's capital, Clark has a pretty high profile. His eagle father, Captain, was given as a 3 to the United States in 1982 by West Germany. At the time, the bald eagle was endangered, and environmentalists were 4 about the present. At its low point, the bald eagle population had fallen to 417 known nesting pairs.  The United States made great efforts to 5 the bald eagle population and the result was 6 . The species was saved and it was 7 from the list of threatened species in 2007.  Captain was part of a critical conservation breeding program, 8 six healthy eaglets(雏鹰). While Clark's siblings were 9 into the wild, Clark has spent his whole life under human care. Clark's claw(爪) did not form 10 and just didn't give him the 11 that he would need. After all, the wild is not the most 12 place.  Clark travels across the country to 13 flight demonstrations and other educational programs at events. People react similarly when they see him at events. They're 14 . Clark's physical presence leaves a lasting impression and 15 people to care more about conservation efforts.                  1.A.driver B.passenger C.pilot D.conductor 2.A.boarded B.landed C.left D.launched 3.A.gift B.decoration C.product D.reward 4.A.passionate B.concerned C.excited D.curious 5.A.keep B.monitor C.study D.recover 6.A.satisfactory B.scary C.discouraging D.convincing 7.A.excused B.protected C.removed D.separated 8.A.teaching B.fathering C.catching D.adopting 9.A.thrown B.changed C.divided D.freed 10.A.carefully B.beautifully C.formally D.properly 11.A.necessity B.company C.protection D.opportunity 12.A.secret B.forgiving C.striking D.impressive 13.A.learn B.seek C.observe D.perform 14.A.blown away B.put away C.taken away D.hidden away 15.A.encourages B.trains C.forces D.warns 答案与分层梯度式解析 UNIT 3 CONSERVATION Part 1 TOPIC TALK 基础过关练 Ⅰ.1.items 2.plastic;recycled Ⅱ.1.were bad for 2.have a role 3.cut down 4.work on 5.Do your part Ⅲ.1.incredibly 考查副词。 分析句子可知此处为“It is+adj.+for sb. to do sth.” Ⅳ.1.has a role to play in this project 2.I can see that 3.that she is for me 4.If you work hard With Leesfield's efforts, the area has been nominated as Hope Spot, which is part of the mission Blue Program launched by famous oceanographer Sylvia Earle that identifies places as critically important to the ocean's health and supports protection. which引导非限制性定语从句;launched by famous oceanographer Sylvia Earle是过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰Blue Program;that引导定语从句,修饰先行词Blue Program。 由第五段第二、三句“But fishers are allowed access within 200 meters of Fish Rock. This is leading to a drop in the number of gray nurse sharks and is increasing pollution, says Leesfield.” 故选A项。 Ⅱ. 促进;增强 5.break free from摆脱 6.figure out弄清楚 7.resourceful adj. 3.G 根据上文的“Travel brings you closer to people”以及下文的“Human connection is a fundamental source of happiness”可知,设空处需进一步说明“旅行带来的人际联结”的意义,衔接“建立联结”与“联结带来快乐”。 频繁的 2.announce sth. to sb. 根据上文“When the plane touches down”和下文“will often announce to the cabin”可知,此处应是指飞机上的工作人员向乘客宣布信息,最合适的人是飞行员。 根据上文“When the plane touches down”可知,此处表示“着陆”。 根据下文“to the United States in 1982 by West Germany”及历史背景和外交常识可知,动物作为两国友谊的象征通常被当作礼物赠送。故选A。 根据上文“At the time, the bald eagle was endangered, and environmentalists were”可知,由于秃鹰濒危,所以美国收到这样的礼物时,环保主义者可能担忧其保护现状。 根据下文“The species was saved and it was 7 from the list of threatened species in 2007.” 根据下文“The species was saved and it was 7 from the list of threatened species in 2007.” 故选A。 根据上文“The species was saved”和下文“from the list of threatened species in 2007”可知,此处指秃鹰因为数量恢复,不再属于濒危物种,所以被从濒危物种名单上移除。 根据上文“While Clark's siblings were”和下文“into the wild, Clark has spent his whole life under human care”可知,此处对比了Clark和其兄弟姐妹的状况,Clark一生都在人类的照料下度过,而它的兄弟姐妹被放归野外。 根据上文“Clark's claw(爪) did not form 10 and just didn't give him”和下文“that he would need”可知,此处指Clark因为生理缺陷,无法拥有在野外生存所必需的能力。故选A。 根据下文“flight demonstrations and other educational programs at events”可知,Clark参与的是教育展示活动,因此是进行飞行表演。 故选A。 根据上文“Clark travels across the country to 13 flight demonstrations and other educational programs at events.”和下文“people to care more about conservation efforts”可知,Clark的现身给人们留下了持久的印象并鼓励人们更加关注保护工作。故选A。
