Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m writing to recommend myself to be the reporter of your magazine. I think I have many strong qualities for this position.
I am very active. I often take part in all kinds of school activities, so I am good at communicating with others. I like reading and enjoy writing down my thoughts and feelings. That makes me so creative that I always come up with new ideas. Last year, I won the first prize in the writing competition. What’s more, I am hard-working and never mind doing extra work after class. I have won high praise from teachers and classmates.
I know a lot about colours. My favourite colour is blue. It brings peace to our mind and body. Blue can be of some help to me when I need to make decisions calmly and wisely.
I think I am the most suitable person to be the reporter. I hope that you can agree with me.
Yours sincerely.
Millie

Anna
My roommates at school isolate (孤立) me all the time. They have their own group chat and never talk to me. But in fact we have never disagreed on anything serious.I don’t know whether it’s because of our different hobbies or ways of doing things. Should I do something to change the situation?
Julie
There have been many times in my life when I’ve had unfriendly roommates. This is, unluckily, a common situation in life.
I know it can be difficult to take the first step to talk with others. This is even more difficult when roommates have made their own group chat. But, in life, it is necessary to make the first move. Why not start with simple, small conversations at the right moment? Try not to work too hard to attract their attention; just look for something similar that you have in common and offer your ideas. Knowing how to “break the ice” in this way is an important and helpful life skill.
Simon
I feel quite tired since the Junior 3 year began. After school, all I want is to sleep as soon as I return home. But I can’t do that because I have lots of homework to do. Usually, it lasts until 11 p.m. It’s really tiring. But I have to keep working. How can I live through a long school day and keep energetic?
Peter
Many of my classmates share the same experience with you. They keep studying and don’t stop to have a rest. But I don’t agree. For me, I will listen to beautiful Western music, or read Readers to keep the tiredness away. I also walk back home after school. In the walking, I don’t have to think about my studies. When I get back home, I feel full of energy again to keep working. On weekends, I like spending hours playing football or tennis. I think rest can make our brain work better.
26.Where could the passage be taken from?
A.A news magazine. B.A tour guide.

A woman in the UK lost her eyesight and worried she would never be able to ride a bike again. However, she has been on two wheels, thanks to a local business’s act of kindness.
Jeanette Stevens enjoys cycling, but she lost her eyesight at the age of 34, unluckily. Two years later, she began cycling with the help of Charlotte’s Tandems, a charity. After teaching her how to ride, it lent her a tandem bicycle, and she could use it for a year. When the year was over, she had to give the bicycle back. Just at that time, one of the charity’s old bikes was for sale, although not in good condition.
“The charity was selling the old bike for £50, so I talked about it with Newark Cycles,” Stevens told the Newark Advertiser.
“I wasn’t sure if I should buy it as I didn’t have much money, but Simon (a worker of Newark Cycles) said I should buy it and if it couldn’t be repaired, he would sell it to get my £50 back.”
Stevens bought the bike and Simon repaired the bike well. Then Simon sent it to Stevens as a gift. “I was very happy, running around, jumping up and down, and telling everyone about it,” Stevens said.

Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire.
Since the Warring States Period (战国时期), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. In the Tang Dynasty, there was huge progress in the technology of sugar making. And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass down the art except those aging sugar painters.
For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. Therefore, the art should be remembered , missed and passed down.
33.What does the underlined word “ precious” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Valuable and expensive. B.Useful and cheap.
C.Special but worthless. D.Simple but priceless.
34.Why should sugar painters make the work very quickly?
A.To show their excellent skills. B.To avoid syrup becoming hard.
C.To protect the spoon and the table. D.To reduce people’s waiting time.
35.What’s the writer’s attitude towards today’s sugar painting according to Paragraph 4?
A.Uncaring. B.Doubtful. C.Worried. D.Unclear.
36.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Exploring the Art of Sugar Painting B.Improving the Taste of Sugar Painting
C.Effects of the Sugar Producing Technology D.Way to Change the Future of Sugar Painting
【答案】33.A 34.B 35.C 36.A
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了糖画的定义、发展历史、制作工艺、现状及文化意义。
【详解】33.根据第二段中“And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes.”可知,早期的糖只有皇室贵族才能享用,说明它是珍贵且昂贵的,因此“precious”的含义与“Valuable and expensive”一致。
34.根据第三段中“Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly.”可知,画师快速创作的原因是防止糖浆冷却变硬,影响制作。
35.根据第四段中“However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass down the art except those aging sugar painters.”

①Every year, billions of migrating birds fly thousands of miles to reach their seasonal homes. But when birds start these long journeys, how do they know where they’re going?
②In fact, birds use different clues to stay in the right direction. Some of these are familiar to us, while others are still a mystery to humans. Sight and smell are two basic clues that birds use to find their way. If birds have already migrated once, they’ll likely remember familiar landmarks, such as rivers and mountain ranges. Birds that migrate over water, however, have fewer landmarks to guide them. In these situations, they might depend more on their sense of smell. One study found that when researchers blocked the noses of Scopoli’s shearwaters, these seabirds could still fly over land but lost their way when flying over water.
③Birds can also use the sun and stars as guides. To do this, birds that fly during the day use a “sun compass”, which connects their view of the sun’s position in the sky with their internal sense of the time of day. By putting these two pieces of information together, birds can figure out which direction they’re heading.
④However, many birds actually migrate at night, which means that the position of the sun is of little use to them. In this case, birds depend on the position of the stars to find their way. They use this “star compass” by learning the position of the stars around the celestial pole, which is roughly marked by Polaris, known as the North Star.
⑤But what if the sky is cloudy, and birds can’t see the sun, stars or any landmarks? That’s when their more amazing senses come into play. Birds can find their way even without the sun or stars, partly thanks to a sense called magnetoreception (磁感知). This sense allows them to feel Earth’s magnetic fields.
⑥It’s a bit like how we use our eyes to see during the day, but at night, we might use our hands to feel our way around a dark room. Birds use different senses at different times, too. Understanding how these senses work will be very important for protecting birds in the future.
37.How does the writer begin the article?
A.By describing a scene. B.By asking a question.
C.By giving an example. D.By telling a story.
38.From the research on Scopoli’s shearwaters, we can learn that ________.
A.seabirds always lose their way without landmarks
B.blocking seabirds’ ears makes them lose direction
C.land is the only place where seabirds can fly safely
D.birds’ sense of smell plays a role in their migration
39.Which of the following shows the correct structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
40.Why does the writer mention humans’ ways of finding directions?
A.To show that humans have much better senses than birds.
B.To explain that humans need more tools to get directions.
C.To tell that humans and birds share the same living habits.
D.To help readers understand how birds use different senses.

六、阅读与回答问题(本题共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Fashion trends (趋势) are around us, and can be exciting. A trend used to happen in a 20-year cycle, but the latest development of the Internet and clothing business has increasingly cut the length of the cycle short. Now, it seems there comes a new fashion trend every couple of months, but it still follows the same stages:
●A trend is usually first brought in during a big fashion show. Reporters, writers, and some other important people collect what they have learned in the show and predict a trend in the near future.
●Then the trend is talked about online and finally worn by famous people to make it better accepted, which leads to the rise of the trend.
●Once the trend becomes popular, it will go to the public soon. Large clothing companies and shops begin following the trend so that everyone can get their hands on it. This is when the trend gets to the highest point.
●After that, the trend usually falls and becomes out of date. However, this is not always the end, as trends happen in broader cycles and most get popular again.
Trends can be a great way to try something new and test your style. A survey says some people enjoy following trends because they keep fashion exciting and provide fresh ideas. However, others may not think so, especially when a trend doesn’t agree with how they feel about themselves. Trends can be fun, but sometimes prove a waste of money because many simply see trends as brands (品牌). So, should we follow fashion trends?
Clearly, there’s no right answer whether to follow trends or not depends on how they go with your values, spending, and sense of self. It does not hurt to watch trend reports but never choose to follow them unless you really think they fit with your personal style.

Embroidery (刺绣) is an important art form in Chinese culture. People often embroider handkerchiefs, bed covers, tablecloths and dresses.
Shu embroidery is one of the most famous embroidery styles in China, It’s k 56 for its strong expression and smooth needlework.
The characteristics are greatly i 57 by geographical environment, customs and cultures. Called the “Land of Richness”, Sichuan province is rich in grain production. The people of this area also enjoy a slow lifestyle. So when embroidering, they are usually patient and willing to spend time on pursuing the form’s intricacy. This could also be a reason why Shu embroidery was listed a 58 national-level intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in 2006.
Making beautiful Shu embroidery products is never easy. It r 59 super workmanship.
Meng Dezhi, 59, was born in a family of embroiderers. She has p 60 embroidery for years and was one of the most talented workers at the Chengdu Shu embroidery factory. Even so, the long and repetitive nature of the process often challenges her. And in winter when her hands and feet are freezing, things become more d 61 . However, her love for the work has encouraged Meng to c 62 . For an experienced master like Meng, finishing a piece needs several days or a few months.
“These e 63 may sometimes make me lose confidence, but the love for Shu embroidery always gives me power to continue,” said Meng.
Meng also has popularized the culture of Shu embroidery when the tradition was at risk of fading (衰落). Many cheap goods (商品) are made by modern machines. In 2005, the factory Meng worked in had no c 64 but to close. To make a living and pass along the traditional technology, Meng hired (租用) a small space of 10 square meters to teach Shu embroidery skills.
“In the early days, I set up the company just for survival, but now I really have a f 65 that I have the responsibility to pass on Shu embroidery skills to young people to let it run from generation to generation,” she told China Daily.
66.How long does a new fashion trend last now?
67.Who usually first realizes a new fashion trend?
68.Which situation means the trend has reached the highest point?
69.Why do some people dislike following trends according to the survey?
70.Do you prefer brands when buying clothes? Why or why not?

Peter
Many of my classmates share the same experience with you. They keep studying and don’t stop to have a rest. But I don’t agree. For me, I will listen to beautiful Western music, or read Readers to keep the tiredness away. I also walk back home after school. In the walking, I don’t have to think about my studies.

66.How long does a new fashion trend last now?
67.Who usually first realizes a new fashion trend?
68.Which situation means the trend has reached the highest point?
69.Why do some people dislike following trends according to the survey?
70.Do you prefer brands when buying clothes? Why or why not?
