Aristotle may have written the first research results of myopia (近视) around 350B.C. Because their eyeballs are too long, people with this condition can see objects that are close by, but distant objects look blurry. Neil Handley, a museum curator, said not much is known about how people dealt with myopia before the first lenses for nearsighted people were invented in the 15th century in Europe. And he noted that “even in the history of the invention of glasses, that is a late development.” There are 13th-century European examples of handheld convex lenses (凸透镜) that were used to treat age-related vision loss known as presbyopia (We’d call them reading glasses today). But the technology wasn’t used to treat nearsightedness for another 200 years. “Because of the way that lens is held, you can see through it, and the artist has caught the effect that the glass has,” Handley said. Myopia could be something of a modern condition. The number of nearsighted people has risen quickly in recent years, and researchers have predicted that half the world will be myopic by 2050. One study by the College of Optometrists found that myopia is more than twice as common among kids in the U.K. now than it was the 1960s. Doctors are still trying to find out the cause behind this trend. Some have blamed (归咎于) genetic causes or an increase in studying and screen time. It’s likely that myopia didn’t influence as many people in the past as it does now. Handley said the late creation of nearsighted glasses suggests that treating the small number of people with myopia wasn’t considered as a most important thing and that people could deal with myopia by making some changes in their lifestyle. Or, maybe there was more of an emphasis (强调) on putting people in jobs that were suited to their ability to see, he said. For example, people with myopia were historically valued in artisan contexts, such as medieval European monasteries, where illuminating manuscripts (手稿) and painting required making tiny, exact brushstrokes. “The myopic person, far from being given some correction, was actually encouraged to remain in their myopic condition, because it was actually ideal for them doing this job. They don’t necessarily consider it as disability,” Handley said. 34.What does the underlined word “blurry” in Paragraph 1 mean? A.Dark. B.Warm. C.Unclear. A.People in the past didn’t develop myopia. B.People with myopia could also lead a normal life. C.Myopia could be cured by changing people’s lifestyle. D.Most jobs about art preferred nearsighted people than others. 37.What does the passage mainly tell us? A.Many causes lead to modern myopia. B.Myopia was not so troublesome in the past. D.Glasses for nearsighted people have developed a lot. 根据“Because their eyeballs are too long, people with this condition can see objects that are close by, but distant objects look blurry.” 根据“There are 13th-century European examples of handheld convex lenses…for another 200 years.”、“The number of nearsighted people has risen quickly in recent years, and researchers have predicted that half the world will be myopic by 2050.”以及“One study by the College of Optometrists found that myopia is more than twice as common among kids in the U.K. now than it was the 1960s.” 根据“Handley said the late creation of nearsighted glasses suggests that treating the small number of people with myopia wasn’t considered as a most important thing and that people could deal with myopia by making some changes in their lifestyle.” 根据文章第一段中“How did nearsighted people manage in the pre-glasses past?” 四、单词拼写(20分) 38.Jim’s father is a ____________ (总的) manager in a big computer company. 39.The ________ (开拓者) in the medical area have left us so much useful knowledge. 40.It’s so sorry that love was totally ________ (缺席的) from his childhood because of the war. 41.To get high marks in English exams, you can’t pay too much attention to ________ (语法), I think. 42.It’s ________ (礼貌的) to say “Excuse me?” when you ask for help. 43.After a month’s hard work, I think I have made great ________ (进展) in English. 44.Black Myth: Wukong, a game based on Journey to the West, shows ________ (古代的) Chinese buildings and cultural heritage in a super realistic way. 45.You need enough ________ (patient) to wait for your turn. 46.The argument between them was much ________ (silly) than I thought. 47.Don’t lose p_________ easily. Some kids turned to stare at us and I wanted to hide. I led my family into my classroom and looked around. Other kids and parents were there, but I didn’t see Evelyn. Ms. Jennings walked over to us. I introduced her to my family and explained that my parents are deaf. “Oh,” she said. “Well, how do you say ‘Welcome!’ in sign language?” “Like this.” I swept my open right hand in toward my body, palm (掌心) up. She repeated the movement. “Thank you,” Mom said, smiling. “It’s nice to meet you.” Ms. Jennings looked surprised. “You speak very well,” she said. In sign language, I repeated what Ms. Jennings had said in case my parents hadn’t read her lips (嘴唇). Mom nodded. “I lost my hearing as a child, after I’d learned to talk. Amy’s father was born deaf. He can talk, too, but he’s shy about his voice.” Dad smiled in agreement. Some of my classmates were watching us and whispering. Then I noticed Evelyn and her mom standing by the door. “I sit over there,” I told my family and quickly walked toward my desk. “Hi, Amy,” Evelyn said suddenly. I turned around. “Hi.” “I didn’t know your parents are deaf,” she said. “Yeah.” I couldn’t think of anything else to say. “And you can talk to them with your hands? That’s so cool.” “You think so?” I asked. I exhaled with relief. Evelyn nodded. “It’s like a secret code. Would you teach me some words sometime?” I smiled. “Of course.” “One of my dad’s neighbours uses sign,” she said. “Maybe I can surprise her with a greeting next time I visit my dad.” “Your dad doesn’t live with you?” I said. She shook her head. “My parents are separated.” “Oh, I...” I’d been so worried about my family that I hadn’t thought about Evelyn’s family. “Hey, if you come over tomorrow, we can practice some sign language then.” I got my parents’ attention. “Mom, Dad,” I said, signing, “I’d like you to meet my friend Evelyn and her mom.” 31.How is Welcome!’ said in sign language? D How did nearsighted people manage in the pre-glasses past? A.Dark. B.Warm. C.Unclear. D.Uncomfortable. 35.The passage is developed by ________. A.providing facts B.presenting causes C.comparing opinions D.making up stories 36.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs? A.People in the past didn’t develop myopia. B.People with myopia could also lead a normal life. C.Myopia could be cured by changing people’s lifestyle. D.Most jobs about art preferred nearsighted people than others. 37.What does the passage mainly tell us? A.Many causes lead to modern myopia. B.Myopia was not so troublesome in the past. C.Nearsightedness is increasing at an amazing speed. D.Glasses for nearsighted people have developed a lot. 四、单词拼写(20分) 38.Jim’s father is a ____________ (总的) manager in a big computer company.
