Do you want to work out to stay healthy? The following are some home workouts you can try.
HIIT Workout
High-Intensity Interval Training(HIIT) uses high-intensity exercises combined with short rest periods to maximize the calorie burn and cardiorespiratory (心肺的) fitness. There are two HIIT circuits for different people.
For beginners: start with a 30-second workout, followed by 30 seconds of rest.
For the advanced: do a 45-second workout and rest for 15 seconds.
Yoga
Yoga combines breathing techniques, meditation (冥想) and different poses designed to encourage relaxation and reduce stress. Practicing yoga comes with many benefits for both mental and physical health. It helps to reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality. Find a workout for beginners and practice regularly, step by step.
CrossFit
When we think of CrossFit, probably the gym comes to mind along with a lot of tools. At home and without these tools, CrossFit is a little more challenging, but not impossible. This is a good core workout:
Complete 5 rounds of:
·10 sit-ups
·5 push-ups
·a 45-second plank
·10 push-ups
·a 60-second plank
·15 sit-ups
Please rest for 60 seconds between two rounds.
Pilates
Pilates is a whole-body fitness program, adaptable to many fitness levels and needs. It develops core strength, increases flexibility, improves posture and increases the energy level. Unlike some types of exercises, Pilates won't over-develop some parts of the body and ignore others. It focuses on core strength while training the body as an inseparable one.
21.Which workout should you try if you're under pressure?
A.HIIT Workout. B.Yoga.
C.CrossFit. D.Pilates.
22.What's special about Pilates?
A.It aims to train your body as a whole.
B.It requires you to do sit-ups and push-ups.
C.It may over-develop some parts of your body.
D.It has two circuits for beginners and the advanced.
23.What's the writing purpose of this passage?
A.To teach people to lose weight.
B.To ask people to go to the gym.
C.To introduce some home exercises.
D.To compare different home workouts.
B
A bunch of strangers showed up at the gym on the early morning of the last Sunday in April. A few athletes were already stretching(伸展) their arms, but most of us could barely concentrate. As I was burning off the previous night's wrong decision—a big meal, I spotted a poster for a gym's 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed up. I always wanted to train for a marathon, so I considered this as my warm-up. Besides, I needed to stop being lazy and this was my chance to make a change.
It was easy to promise on paper, but three weeks of the recommended exercise routine and diet restrictions(限制) wouldn't be easy. I stuck to working out 30 minutes a day, and I didn't disturb (干扰) my normal routine. Instead, I had to be faced with the tough work of being more creative in my spare time, thus breaking some bad habits.
Overcoming weaknesses with willpower was my goal for the next part of the journey. But the difficult part about making a challenge is realizing that “wanting” and “doing” are two very different things. Just like a career, you have to physically work for it rather than just wait for things to happen. But that's hard. Throughout the 21 days, I often told myself that the challenge was meaningless and tried to sabotage myself from exercising. However, finally I overcame that negative thought and kept working out.
At the end of the challenge, I learned something even more important: Feeling the results is better than seeing them. I had fewer headaches and more energy, and was simply happier. I even felt a little smarter as I researched which foods were better for my body, and learned how to make healthier meals. I felt a sense of achievement, too, because even though I wanted to give up dozens of times, I didn't. I felt my waist got smaller and my arms got stronger, and I no longer felt guilty after having a piece of cake or a drink.
24.What is the author's wrong decision?
A.Going to the gym early.
B.Training for a marathon.
C.Eating a lot the previous night.
D.Stopping being lazy for a change.
25.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.Some of the author's bad habits.
B.Some ways of the author's killing his spare time.
C.The importance of sticking to the normal daily routine.
D.The difficulty of the author's keeping the workout plan.
26.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word“sabotage” in paragraph 3?
A.Stop. B.Hear.
C.Improve. D.Recognize.
27.What did the author learn from the workout challenge?
A.Eating healthy food is more important than exercising.
B.Overcoming a challenge could bring good feelings to him.
C.It's more important to see what he likes than to just feel it.
D.There was no need to feel guilty about things he disliked doing.
C
Research often points to exercise as a good way to improve mental health, but a recent study from the University of Georgia suggests that it's not just physical movement that affects mental health. It's how, where and why you exercise that makes the difference.
“In previous (以前的) research, research on physical activity has focused on how long someone exercises for or how many calories are burned,” said Patrick O'Connor, a co-author of the study. “The amount of exercise has been the main way researchers have tried to understand how physical activity might influence mental health, while whether those minutes are spent exercising with a friend or as part of a game has been ignored.”
Many studies find that people who take part in regular leisure-time physical activity, like going for a run, taking a yoga class or biking for fun, tend to report lower levels of anxiety. But while leisure-time physical activity offers better mental health outcomes, these benefits may vary greatly depending on the environment of the activity, according to the researchers.
“For example, if a soccer player runs down the field and kicks the game-winning ball, their mental health is fantastic,” O'Connor said. “In contrast, if you do exactly the same exercise but miss the goal and people are blaming (责备) you, you are likely to feel very different.”
Many studies also showed that adopting regular exercise routines improved mental health, especially for individuals with existing mental health disorders. However, these studies were typically based on similar samples, so the results are probably not suitable for more diverse groups. “If we're trying to improve people's mental health through exercise, then not only do we need to think about the amount and the mode, but we also need to ask: What is the context (背景)?” O'Connor said.
For O'Connor, the key point is clear. It's not just movement that matters. It's the meaning, the context and the experience of the activity that determine the influence of exercise on mental health.
28.What has been largely overlooked in previous research?
A.The time length and type of the workout.
B.The social environment of physical activity.
C.The number of calories burned during exercise.
D.The physical health outcomes of regular exercise.
29.What can we learn from the example of the soccer player?
A.Winning ensures mental health benefits.
B.Playing football can improve mental health.
C.Blame from others leads to bad mental health.
D.Context matters in how exercise affects mental health.
30.What does O'Connor suggest researchers do?
A.Avoid studying people with mental health disorders.
B.Focus more on the amount of exercise in future studies.
C.Pay attention to the context of exercise in their research.
D.Prove what is the real effect of exercise on mental health.
31.Which situation best matches the “context effect” described in the text?
A.Lily buys lighter running shoes and runs faster.
B.Ben sleeps nine hours the night after swimming.
C.Mary loses 2 kg after keeping jogging 5 km every day for a month.
D.Tom feels great cycling with friends but bored when cycling alone.
D
Teenagers' fitness is now an important concern, and physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientist Dr. Helen Lopez offers the following advice to teenagers. First, you need to find out your present level of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier.
Dr. Lopez suggests that there are three levels of fitness needing a change of lifestyle. “Overweight” means that the person gets very little exercise and has a serious weight problem. “Inactive” means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. “Active” refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but do not have a high level of fitness.
According to Dr. Lopez, overweight teenagers should work out to keep healthy. Ride a bike, play badminton or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn calories (卡路里). Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some stretching(拉伸) and bending exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, starting with twenty of each a day. “Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger,” Dr. Lopez said. The same rule applies to active teenagers.
Dr. Lopez suggests one hour a week or more of running and other forms of intensive exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending exercises. “These exercises are really important in order to stop injuries,” Dr. Lopez said. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises can also be organized in the programme in order to increase the person's strength.
32.What should teenagers find out first according to Dr. Helen Lopez?
A.Their present levels of fitness.
B.Their past levels of fitness.
C.Their present levels of stress.
D.Their present levels of body weight.
33.What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A.Active people always have a high level of fitness.
B.Overweight people always take more exercise.
C.Keeping fit means changing teenagers' lifestyle.
D.Inactive teenagers are not seriously overweight.
34.What can you do to stop injuries?
A.Do some walking.
B.Do some jogging.
C.Do some stretching and bending.
D.Do some weight training.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Doing Exercise B.Teenagers' Fitness
C.Different Lifestyles D.Overweight Teenagers
Many people believe that staying healthy requires hard exercise, but this isn't always true. A popular fitness idea called “zone zero” shows that even very easy activities can bring great health benefits.
36 In heart rate training, physical activities are grouped into five levels. Zone zero is the easiest level—it includes any movement that keeps your heart rate below 50% of its highest level. Common zone zero activities include slow walking after meals, easy cycling, playing with pets, or doing light housework.
Why is this helpful? For people who sit most of the day, adding gentle movement can greatly improve the blood flow, help control blood pressure, and keep blood sugar at healthy levels. Health experts say that people who start moving after sitting all day get the clearest health improvement. 37
Remember, “zone zero” should not replace harder exercise. If you have already worked out, it is a good addition. 38 It is also useful for “weekend warriors”—people active only on weekends—as it reduces the harm of sitting too long.
The best part is that it's simple. You don't need to overthink it. 39 Just move more in enjoyable ways: climb the stairs, walk more, or garden. The key is to enjoy what you do and keep doing it.
In short, every movement helps you become healthier. 40 By adding pleasant, light activities to your daily life, you can keep healthy in an easy and enjoyable way.
A.So, what exactly is “zone zero”?
B.It helps muscle recovery on rest days.
C.You don't need to check your heart rate often.
D.Staying healthy doesn't require you to push yourself too hard.
E.In fact, most professional athletes avoid such light activities.
F.However, some experts argue that its benefits are overstated.
G.Slowly, these easy activities also help with balance and make muscles stronger.

John was crazy about playing basketball. Every day after school, he would spend much time practicing basketball skills. Sometimes, he didn't go back home until sunset(日落), which made his mother extremely angry. One day, he was given a chance to watch a basketball game, and then he dreamed about being a member of the college basketball team the next year. On the way, he was delighted. He thought no one in the world was luckier than him. Suddenly, a car hit him. What a terrible experience! It seemed like a bad dream.
John woke up in a hospital room. He was frightened to death. He realized that he couldn't move both of his legs. At that time, the doctor came in. When the doctor told him that both his legs were broken and that he had to sit in the wheelchair for the time being, he knew his college basketball dream was over. He was really depressed. John followed what the doctors had told him, but it did not work entirely. When he left the hospital, he would be sent to a health recovery center. He had never heard of this center before, but it was not far away from his house. Although he felt unwilling to go there, he had no choice but to accept the fact.
A week later, he arrived there unhappily. The first person he met was Sunny Chen, who was so kind and friendly that he warmly welcomed John. Sunny's legs were badly hurt in a skating accident. He told John that he would help him recover soon. Though Sunny couldn't move his legs, he was the coach of a basketball team called the Suns. After a period of recovery training, John felt his legs were all right. So Sunny invited him to join in the coming game where Sunny guided the team in his wheelchair. John played badly, but for the first time since the accident, he stopped feeling sorry for himself.

A
由Yoga中的“...designed to encourage relaxation and reduce stress.”
由Pilates中的最后两句“Unlike some types of exercises...It focuses on core strength while training the body as an inseparable one.” 故选A。
由第一段“Do you want to work out to stay healthy? The following are some home workouts you can try.”
根据第一段第三句的“As I was burning off the previous night's wrong decision—a big meal”可知,前一天晚上作者做了一个错误的决定:吃了一顿大餐。
故选A。
根据第二段中的“whether those minutes are spent exercising with a friend or as part of a game has been ignored”可知,以往的研究忽视了体育活动的社交环境。
根据第五段最后一句中的“we also need to ask: What is the context?”
根据第一段的关键信息“It's how, where and why you exercise that makes the difference.”,第四段提到的例子,以及最后一段的关键信息“It's the meaning, the context and...determine the influence of exercise on mental health.”
故选A。
根据第二段的“‘Inactive’ means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight.”
故选A。
根据“I didn't like any of them”可知,作者不喜欢这些运动,它们都是爸爸强迫(forced)作者做的。故选C。
42.B 上文提到作者从小就接触了很多项运动,再结合“I didn't like any of them”可知,上下文形成转折关系。
故选A。
49.D 根据上文“All I knew about Zumba was that it was basically...”
50.A one's cup of tea意为“某人钟爱的事物”。故选A。
51.C 根据文章第一句中的“due to my fear of sports”可知,此处指教练的话消除了作者对体育运动的恐惧(fear)。故选C。
52.A 根据上文教练的话和下文“I didn't even have to be good.” 故选A。
53.B 根据教练的话“Don't worry about the steps. Have fun. Do your own thing.”
54.D 根据“and it also did so much more”可知,前面讲的也是尊巴的一个好处,故这里指尊巴挽救(save)了作者,使其避免了增重15磅。故选D。
55.C make peace with为固定短语,意为“与…… 此处与第一段中的“Exercise and I had never had a good relationship”呼应,故选C。
57.who/that 考查定语从句。
故填or。
的数量”,故用the number of... 故填The。
设空处构成“find it+形容词+to do sth.” 故填to focus。
One possible version:
Dear Mike,
I'm sorry to hear that your tight schedule leaves you little time for exercise. I'm writing to share some practical suggestions that help you strike a balance between study and fitness.
To begin with, try to make full use of short breaks between classes—just a ten-minute walk or some simple stretches can make a big difference. You can also squeeze in some light exercise such as jogging, perhaps in the early morning or evening. What matters most is keeping up with it rather than how long you do it each time.
I'm sure that once you make exercise part of your daily routine, you'll soon feel healthier and more energetic. Keep going—you can do it!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
John was glad that his dream of being a member of a basketball team came true. Basketball was like medicine for him. John was much better and more confident than before. John practiced hard to improve himself. He was always the first to come to the court, and the last to go back home. Although it was not easy for him to play and he did badly at first, he never thought about giving up. He was a boy with a strong mind.
Sunny saw all John did, lost in thought. He could not help praising John for his courage and love for basketball. There are many ups and downs in life. No one knows what will happen. However, as long as there is love and hope in our hearts, nothing can stop us from achieving what we desire. As a matter of fact, what we should do is stick to the dreams and fight to the end.

I usually have five meetings every week compared to some people in america. I am lucky. In the united states, there are quite a few meetings every weekday. IT seems americans like to have meetings. The reason is that people can often find good ideas when they get together. A meeting gives each member a chance to present his or her ideas and to discuss them with others. People hope that they can make good use of their time and money in this way. However, meetings must be controlled. On the one hand, if everyone wants to have a chance to speak during a meeting, IT can be very noisy and some people may even get angry. On the other hand, if no one wants to say anything, the meeting will be very dull and awkward. How can we deal with this problem? In fact, at meetings, there is a person called the chairman, whose job is to keep the discussion in order. The chairman helps to guide the discussion and makes decisions. Therefore, whether a meeting is a success or a waste of time often depends on the chairman. Do you often have meetings for me? I usually have five meetings every week.
