Today we'll be looking at food scientists who have come up with a waste free way to produce chocolate around the world. About six million tons of chocolate are expected to be eaten this year, and every mouthful comes from the coco bean, which is found inside the coco fruit. Normally, when the bean is gathered in, the rest of the fruit is thrown away. But researchers in switzerland have developed a coco fruit that won't be wasted. This is because the entire fruit can be used in the production of chocolate. For an industry currently worth about one hundred and thirty billion dollars in the world, this could be a game changer. AmErica of loan is projected to reach twenty two point three billion dollars by two thousand and thirty. So this invention is important for both fighting food waste and gaining business profits. And I have visited a coco farm in ghana to learn more about how the coco fruit is grown. Later in the program, i'll be speaking to several food scientists. Welcome to world farming. today. Sonja Redding and her family were on their way home to Omaha, Nebraska, after a week-long visit to Washington, D.C., with her two sons, one of whom, 5-year-old Xayvior, has autism (自闭症).
Although all of the other flights had gone fine, Xayvior became angry during one of the flights, and Redding couldn’t calm (使镇静) him.
“It felt like everyone on the plane was looking at us and got angry with my son,” she wrote in a Facebook post after she got home. “I don’t know what to do when others just don’t understand that he is not just a kid with no discipline, but a child with special needs who doesn’t know how to control himself.”
The day was saved by Delta flight attendant (空乘人员) Amanda Amburgy. She tried to help Xayvior watch a movie, but when that failed, she offered to take him on a tour of the airplane. That worked, and soon the child was not only calm, but having a good time.
“When they came back, Xayvior was much calmer and happier,” wrote Redding in the post, which now has 2,700 likes and over 500 shares. “I want to thank this Delta attendant. She didn’t judge (评价), and she just showed love. We need more people like this in the world.”
It wasn’t long before Amburgy was told about the post. “We’re there to help, and that’s what we want to do,” she said in an interview. “So, we always want to make anything easier for the family as well as other passengers. When spring arrives, keeping warm becomes less of an issue. However, scientists remind us it is not just a seasonal necessity — heat is also a valuable energy resource that can be stored. Researchers at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) have discovered an innovative solution beneath our feet: using soil as an efficient thermal energy(热能) storage system.
KTU professor Dr Tadas Ždankus and his team have been investigating how the ground can serve as a medium for heat storage. At the core of their research is a ground-based heat accumulator that would store left energy underground and make it available when demand peaks.
Initially, the team explored how to use wind energy to produce heat via a hydraulic system (液压系统). They found that so-called hydraulic losses, typically seen as inefficiencies, were actually generating usable heat. However, part of heat was lost before reaching buildings. The question became how to not only decrease heat loss but also store it.
To test this idea, the researchers conducted experiments using an artificial heat source placed in surface soil layers. They measured how heat spreads and persists in the ground. In one test, when the soil was heated to the boiling point, it caused a phase change (相变), in which liquid water becomes vapor. “Phase change can be an efficient way. We noticed a sharp temperature rise wherever the vapour flow reached. This means the energy is moving and can be controlled.” says Prof. Ždankus.
Once the possibility of underground heat storage was confirmed, researchers began exploring its practical applications. They developed a pilot model ground energy cell to study how heat spread through soil. The year-long measurements revealed the soil beneath buildings could passively store heat, making use of the natural downward flow of heat from buildings into the ground.
To put these ground-based storage systems into widespread use, researchers are now developing scaled-down pilot models and refining(改进) heat distribution control methods. “Our immediate goal is to integrate existing solutions into a system that can benefit both industry and residential sectors.” Ždankus concludes.
29.What is the main goal of the KTU research project?
A.To reduce winter heating costs.
B.To capture thermal energy from soil.
C.To store underground heat for later use.
D.To promote hydraulic system efficiency.
30.What can be inferred from paragraphs 3-4?
A.Phase change makes heat control possible.
B.Hydraulic losses can be totally avoided by heat transfer.
C.Vapour flow contributes to big temperature drops.
D.Heat production poses a great challenge to experts.
31.What are researchers doing for the practical use of the systems?
A.Building large-scale industrial heating systems.
B.Developing test models with improved control.
C.Applying the technology to residential sectors.
D.Reducing the energy consumption of buildings.
32.Which of the following would be the suitable title for the text?
A.From Wind to Warmth: an Unexpected Path
B.Future System: Uniting Industry and Home Heating
C.A New Discovery: Turning Hydraulic Loss into Gain
D.The Ground Beneath: A New Frontier in Heat Storage
【答案】29.C 30.A 31.B 32.D

China has completed construction of the world’s first wind-powered underwater data center (UDC), which could transform how the vast digital infrastructure (基础设施) driving AI, cloud computing and big data is powered. Located in the Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai, the project is being hailed as a milestone in the integration of offshore renewable energy with next-generation computing.
The facility features a total power capacity of 24 megawatts (MW) and draws about 97 percent of its electricity from offshore wind. It is cooled using ocean water that flows through its 198 radiator (散热器) -equipped frames. This significantly reduces both energy consumption and land use. For comparison, traditional land-based data centers require up to 40 percent of the power supply for cooling alone.
According to the administrative committee of the Lin-gang Special Area, the new facility’s completion represents a turning point in the green and smart advancement of computing infrastructure. In contrast to traditional land-based data centers, the UDC is made to cut overall power consumption by nearly 23 percent. It also eliminates water use entirely and reduces land requirements by over 90 percent.
Instead of relying on massive air-conditioning systems, the underwater data center uses seawater as a natural cooling medium. This brings cooling-related energy use down to below 10 percent.
The project is part of Shanghai’s broader goal to turn the coastal region into a global smart computing and clean energy innovation center. It also plans to reach a total computing capacity of 200 exaFLOPS. This is equal to one quintillion (百万的三次方) floating point operations per second. For reference, in 2021, Tesla’s supercomputer achieved 1.8 exaFLOPS.
However, experts note that although the technology holds great promise, further development is required before large-scale application becomes cost-effective. “Construction of UDCs is still in its initial stage,” Wang Shifeng, chairman of Third Harbor Engineering, said. “To achieve the transition from demonstration projects to large-scale application, progress is still required in terms of technological maturity and cost efficiency.” Shifeng added that the company plans to prioritize advances in key technologies for offshore computing infrastructure, improve operations and maintenance and pursue greener, low-carbon upgrades.
33.What does the underlined word “hailed” probably mean in paragraph 1?
A.Praised. B.Confirmed. C.Challenged. D.Guaranteed.
34.What is the main comparative advantage of the UDC?
A.It relies on wind and seawater power.
B.It has more radiators for heat removal.
C.It saves plenty of energy, water and land.
D.It needs less land but is harder to maintain.
35.Why does the author mention Tesla’s supercomputer?
A.To prove the UDC’s leading position in computing.
B.To show the growth of the supercomputing industry.
C.To stress the difficulty of achieving 200 exaFLOPS.
D.To help readers understand the scale of the target.
36.What is Wang Shifeng’s attitude towards the future of UDCs?
A.Extremely confident. B.Slightly disapproving.
C.Cautiously optimistic. D.Practically concerned.

【答案】
The Influence of Artificial Intelligence
With the rapid development of technology, artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in our work, study and daily life.
In modern workplaces, AI can handle repetitive and complicated tasks efficiently. For students, intelligent learning platforms provide personalized learning plans and rich learning resources, allowing us to study whenever and wherever we want. In daily life, online intelligent services greatly bring convenience to our daily routines. However, every coin has two sides. If we rely on AI too much, we may gradually lose the ability of independent thinking.
As far as I am concerned, we should make use of its advantages rather than become overly dependent on it. Only by using AI wisely can we live a better life in the digital age.

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A few months before I started high school, my parents gave me the best gift: a cellphone. I spent the whole summer with my face in the screen. I didn’t pay attention to my family or the things around me. Being online was more important than being with people.
So, you can guess how unhappy I was when I learned what my dad planned for our family vacation that year. “This year, ” my dad said, “we’re going to do something special. We’re going camping!” It was not my dream vacation because I was still thinking about my phone.
In fact, I was so busy looking at my phone that I didn’t look up until we drove across a bridge to the campsite. I looked out of the window and saw tall redwood trees. Their branches (树枝) seemed to touch the sky. I saw a river, with dark water showing between the white rapids (激流). The air from the open windows was hot. But none of that caught my eye. The reason I looked up was much more serious: my phone had no service (网络信号).
The last hour in the car was hard. My dad said he had chosen a campsite with no cell service, and my phone would be useless until we got home. I would be stuck in the forest for four days with no way to reach the outside world!
On the first day, I went through every teenage feeling: I was angry, I asked for help, and I kept going between sadness and anger. I went to bed angrily that night. But when I woke up in the morning, something had changed.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右,可参考文中加粗词汇部分;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I stopped looking at my phone and started looking around me.

The next days went by fast because we did many fun things.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I stopped looking at my phone and started looking around me. I walked out of the tent and saw how beautiful the forest was. The trees stood tall and quiet. Birds sang in the morning light. I saw a small river running beside the campsite. The water was so clear that I could see the stones at the bottom. For the first time, I felt peace. My dad came over with a smile. “Want to go for a walk?” he asked. I nodded. We walked along the river and talked about many things. I didn’t think about my phone at all. It felt good to just be there with him.
The next days went by fast because we did many fun things. We went fishing and I caught my first fish. Dad taught me how to make a fire. We cooked together and ate under the stars. At night, we sat by the fire and told stories. I even made friends with other kids at the campsite. We played games and ran through the forest. I laughed more than I had in a long time. When it was time to go home, I felt sad to leave. On the way back, I looked at my phone but didn’t turn it on. I just looked out the window and smiled. I realized that being present is better than being online.

She also shared what she felt when she read Redding’s story. When I read it, it touched my heart. It’s something I would do for anyone on the plane, because that’s what I’m here for.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右,可参考文中加粗词汇部分;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I stopped looking at my phone and started looking around me.

She also shared what she felt when she read Redding’s story. When I read it, it touched my heart. It’s something I would do for anyone on the plane, because that’s what I’m here for.

第二节 读后续写(25分)
