The Perfect You
Lily was a shy girl who often felt like she wasn’t “enough.” She compared herself to her classmates. Some were amazing at sports or dancing. Some had lots of friends. Lily often thought, “Why can’t I be like them?” This question felt like a puzzle she had never solved.
One day Lily found a puzzle game online—The Perfect You.
Curiously, Lily clicked it and there was a puzzle piece with a green light on the screen. Suddenly, the puzzle piece spoke, “What makes you happy?” Lily gasped (倒吸气) and quickly closed the website, too scared to answer. She tried to forget about it, but that night, the shining puzzle piece appeared in her mind. Lily couldn’t sleep.
The next morning, Lily thought for a long time and opened the game again. Then, she answered the question she saw on the screen yesterday, “I feel happy when I play with Meria.” To her surprise, the puzzle piece flew to its correct place.
Then, a second puzzle piece appeared, shining even brighter, and asked, “What are you proud of?” Lily thought for a long time before answering. “I’m proud of myself when I help other kids.” The puzzle piece flew to its correct place just like the first one.
Day by day, more puzzle pieces appeared, each asking a question. Sometimes it was easy to answer. Sometimes it wasn’t. Finally, the last puzzle piece appeared. It asked, “Do you feel left out (受冷落) sometimes?” Lily froze. “I don’t know.” But then she remembered when her friends worked together and didn’t include her. Then, Lily remembered her mom telling her: “It’s OK to feel alone sometimes. Everyone gets to choose their friends, but don’t give up on yourself!”
Taking a deep breath, Lily said, “Yes, I feel left out sometimes, but I know it’s OK.” The whole puzzle shined and turned into a shiny mirror. Instead of showing someone “perfect,” the mirror reflected Lily’s own smiling face with the words: Be yourself. Lily felt warmth spread through her. She realized she didn’t need to be like Sarah, Jake, or Meria. She just needed to be herself.
24.How did Lily feel when she heard the puzzle piece speak at first?

C.All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Today, more and more children use smartphones too much in their everyday life. This could be bad for their health and development. Parents may be wondering what the phones are actually doing to their kids’ health. Here are some of the ways that too much screen time may influence kids.
Sleep
Children’s sleep can be influenced by smartphone use. And the same is true for adults. Too much screen time has a strong connection with shorter total sleep time in children. How long can be seen as overuse? It means using phones more than an hour each day.

Focus
The long-time use of smartphones also reduces the attention span (持续时间) in children. It may influence other functions (功能) of the brain, including the ability to remember things. And it is easy for them to fall behind in their learning, because they can’t put their whole heart into the study.
27.According to the passage, how much screen time per day is considered overuse for children?
A.Less than 30 minutes. B.More than 1 hour.

A.To encourage parents to buy smartphones for their kids.
B.To explain why smartphones are important for learning.
C.To show the possible bad influences of too much screen time on children.
D.To tell children how to use smartphones to have fun.

In the South China Sea, there is a group of Jiaoren, or Chinese mermaids (美人鱼), whose tears become pearls (珍珠) after they fall. Then he brought fire from heaven (天堂) to the world and taught humans how to use it.
Another famous character in the book is Mo (貘), which in another part is Feibao. It is described as a black-and-white monster that feeds on iron (铁). It also goes by “the Iron Eater”. The mysterious character might be the giant panda.
Although it’s not clear who wrote it, Shan Hai Jing is an important ancient book in the pre-Qin period of China and considered one of the treasures of Chinese culture. The stories in the book are now being spread from one generation (一代人) to another in China. The book has encouraged many people like Lu Xun and JK Rowling. There are also many books, films, games and artworks made from it.

A.Why Shan Hai Jing is popular. B.How Shan Hai Jing was written.

“A steed raising red dust won the fair mistress’ smiles. How many steeds bringing her fruit died on the run! (一骑红尘妃子笑,无人知是荔枝来。)” is a famous Tang Dynasty poem.
Ma Boyong got the idea from this poem and wrote The Lychee in Chang’an, a book about an exciting story from ancient China. During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong wanted to please his Consort Yang by transporting (运输) fresh lychees from Lingnan (now Guangdong). However, this simple wish was hard to achieve: lychees would go bad in three days, as the journey was over 2,500 kilometers across mountains and rivers.
The main character, Li Shande, was asked to send the fruit before Consort Yang’s birthday. Though it was difficult, Li refused to give up. “Even if I fail,” he said, “I must know how far I fall short of the goal.”
Li used his wisdom and courage (勇气) to deal with this challenge. He used scientific ways — testing routes, using ice, and inventing a color-coded tracking system (颜色编码追踪系统) to check the fruit’s freshness. After repeated trials (试验), he finished the job of sending lychees in nearly 11 days.
Yet his success came at a price. Li saw how hard common people worked to meet the emperor’s orders. He bravely spoke out against this unfairness.
Though set in the Tang Dynasty, the novel mirrors modern life. Li faced many problems, like not having enough money for a house and dealing with unfair work. These are the same problems young people have today. His story teaches us: real growth comes not just from success, but from never giving up no matter how hard life is.
34.Why does the writer use the poem to start the passage?
35.Why was it difficult to transport lychees to Chang’an?
36.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
37.What was the cost (代价) of Li Shande’s success?
38.What can we learn from Li? (List at least two qualities)

A.Confused. B.Scared. C.Lucky. D.Excited.
25.When does Lily feel proud of herself?
A.When she plays with Meria. B.When she helps other kids.
C.When she wins a puzzle game. D.When she remembers her mom’s words.
26.What can we learn from Lily’s story?
A.Comparison can steal your joy, so just be yourself.
B.Nothing is difficult if you set your mind to it.
C.All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
D.No way is impossible to courage.
【答案】24.B 25.B 26.A

根据“She realized she didn’t need to be like Sarah, Jake, or Meria. She just needed to be herself.” 故选A。

________
According to a recent study, more hours of screen time will cause lower well-being (幸福) in ages 2 to 17. High users of screens (more than 7 hours a day) in teenagers are found to be more than twice as likely to feel worried and unhappy.
C.More than 3 hours. D.More than 7 hours.
28.Which of the following words would be the best subtitle (副标题) for the third paragraph?
A.Method. B.Worry. C.Hours. D.Memory.
29.Why did the author write this passage?
A.To encourage parents to buy smartphones for their kids.
B.To explain why smartphones are important for learning.
C.To show the possible bad influences of too much screen time on children.
D.To tell children how to use smartphones to have fun.
27.根据“Sleep”部分最后一句“It means using phones more than an hour each day.”
29.根据第一段“This could be bad for their health and development.”
D
In the South China Sea, there is a group of Jiaoren, or Chinese mermaids (美人鱼), whose tears become pearls (珍珠) after they fall. To the north of Kunlun Mountains, there is a monster called Xiangliu, which has nine heads with human faces but the body of a snake. These magic characters are from the ancient book of mythical (神话的) story Shan Hai Jing.
Shan Hai Jing, also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas, is said to be at least 2,200 years old. It is about culture and geography of China before the Qin dynasty. It has 31,000 words, more or less. The whole collection includes eighteen parts, talking about more than 550 mountains and 300 seas. It also tells many interesting stories and describes lots of mythical characters.
A famous story in the book is about Zhu Rong, the God of Fire. He is described as having a beast-like (野兽般的) body and a human face, riding around the sky on two dragons. When he had a big fight with Gong Gong, the God of Water, Zhu Rong won. But after the fight, the human world came into complete darkness.

C.The introduction to Shan Hai Jing. D.The importance of Shan Hai Jing.
31.Which is NOT true according to the book Shan Hai Jing?
A.Xiangliu has a body of snake. B.Jiaoren’s tears can become pearls.
C.Shan Hai Jing tells stories after the Qin dynasty. D.Zhu Rong is the God of fire.
32.The writer tells us something about Mo EXCEPT ________.
A.its look B.its names C.its food D.its living place
33.What does the writer think of the book?
A.It’s famous. B.It’s valuable. C.It’s different. D.It’s popular.
30.根据第二段“Shan Hai Jing, also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas, is said to be at least 2,200 years old…It also tells many interesting stories and describes lots of mythical characters.”
31.根据第二段“It is about culture and geography of China before the Qin dynasty.”
32.根据第四段关于Mo的描述:“Another famous character in the book is Mo, which in another part is Feibao.” (名称);“is described as a black-and-white monster” (外形);“feeds on iron” (食物)。
33.根据最后一段“Shan Hai Jing is an important ancient book in the pre-Qin period of China and considered one of the treasures of Chinese culture.”
34.To make the readers interested and introduce the theme.
35.Because lychees would go bad in just three days, as the journey was over 2,500 kilometers across mountains and rivers.
36.How Li solved the lychee transport problem.
37.The hard work of common people to meet the emperor’s orders.
38.We should never give up and use wisdom when facing difficulties.
第二段明确指出“Ma Boyong got the idea from this poem and wrote The Lychee in Chang’an, a book about an exciting story from ancient China”,说明作者在文章开头引用这首诗是为了吸引读者的注意并引出主题。
35.第二段指出“However, this simple wish was hard to achieve: lychees would go bad in three days, as the journey was over 2,500 kilometers across mountains and rivers”,说明把荔枝运到长安很困难是因为荔枝保鲜期短且路途遥远,因此答案是原文直接信息。
37.第五段指出“Yet his success came at a price. Li saw how hard common people worked to meet the emperor’s orders”,说明李善德成功的代价是普通百姓的辛勤劳作与付出,因此答案是原文直接信息。
