Digital Communication: A Bridge at Home?
There is no doubt that digital communication has become an essential part of family life. I firmly believe it acts as a helpful bridge connecting family members.
It shortens the distance between family members, allowing us to keep in touch easily wherever we are. It also helps us share daily moments and strengthen emotional bonds. Besides, it enables timely communication when misunderstandings occur.
However, we should not depend too much on it. Only by balancing digital communication and face-to-face talks can we make full use of this bridge to improve family relationships.

When I finished the course, Ollie came over: “It doesn’t matter. You made it last year. I know you can make your second run a good one”. He tapped me on the shoulder gently, and said in an encouraging voice. How come he cheered on me, the “enemy”? I raised my head and stared into his eyes with confusion. “You are my best friend! You will be the best!” It is simple words, spoken from the heart, found their way straight into mine. I realized that being on the competing team shouldn’t get in the way of our friendship.
On my second time through the obstacle course, Ollie stood up for me. I took a deep breath, toed the line and was ready to run. With the cheers of Ollie and my teammates, I ended up with the fastest time on my team. And to my surprise. Ollie also got the fastest time on his team. The entire Panda VS Grizzly match ended in a tie. From then on, I decided not to take the “enemy” comments too seriously. It’s possible to do your best for your team and to remain friends with someone on the other team.

There have been huge advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI)programs that create art.The programs,

questions.
○
NewsForKids.net reported on Dall-E2,a tool from OpenAI.Dall-E2 uses AI to create incredible paintings,
photos, and other artworks in different styles based on simple descriptions.Since then,OpenAI has changed its
rules to allow anyone to sign up and use the tool. But it's still putting strong controls on the art that can be created.
Now several other AI tools work in similar ways. These new tools are free or cheap, and don't have some of
Dal-E2’s limits.

The new tools are entertaining and powerful. They allow people to quickly see almost any idea they can

These new AI art tools are all trained in similar ways -using massive collections of pictures with

You might forgive a casual visitor to Earth for thinking that the leaders here all wear beautiful clothes, have
gleaming white teeth and wave continually while they walk down red carpets into luxurious buildings.Judging by
the never-ending TV coverage of award ceremonies and the stacks of glossy magazines piled up by supermarket
checkouts,it's easy to see why this mistake might be made. Our fixation on celebrities has never been more
evident. But according to psychologists, this obsession may be nothing new.Our fascination with the rich and
famous goes way back, with people looking to kings and queens for examples of how to dress and behave. For
instance, the popularity of the traditional white wedding dress can be traced back to the one worn by Queen
Victoria at her wedding in 1840.Before this, brides traditionally wore dresses in all sorts of colours.Going back
even further, our earliest ancestors lived in tribes, where leaders were watched carefully for clues on how best to
survive. We still live in a society dominated by hierarchies and our modern-day obsession with celebrities could

simply be an extension of a basic instinct to pay close attention to those at the top.
What has changed,of course,is the rise of the media, and with it,easier access to these glamorous lifestyles
-something celebrities are all too aware of.They know that by constantly appearing in online news feeds and
reaching out to their fans, they can raise their profile and make sure they're not forgotten. The growth of the
media has also meant that there are now many more ways to become famous.Consequently,we're no longer
simply celebrity-watchers but,celebrities-in-waiting,waiting for our chance to shine on the world stage. Many of
us believe that we'll be famous one day and the idea of becoming the centre of attention is very real in many of
our minds. But until then,we're happy just watching. One theory suggests that with the decline in large families
and close-knit communities,celebrities have,for some people,taken the place of these social groups.Just as we'd
once been eager to find out what the neighbours were up to,we're now keen to know everything about our new
“family”members,
But is there really anything wrong with caring about what our idol is doing?Well, like most addictions, you
can suffer from it to varying degrees. Many agree that for most of us,our fascination with celebrities is nothing
more than a harmless interest in people who lead very different lives. And what could possibly be wrong with
that?
32.Why does the passage mention the origin of the white wedding dress?
A.To illustrate the influence of leaders on fashion choices
B.To highlight the decline of traditional wedding ceremonies.
C.To emphasize the role of media in influencing wedding trends.
D.To demonstrate that white wedding dresses are no longer fashionable.
33.According to the passage, what is the primary reason people are fascinated by celebrities?
A.Celebrities are inaccessible and mysterious.
B.People are instinctively drawn to those at the top of hierarchies.
C.Celebrities actually lead ordinary lives that are relatable to the general public.
D.People are trying to replace their traditional social groups.
34.What does the passage imply about the role of celebrities in modern society?
A.Celebrities have lost their appeal and relevance in contemporary society.
B.Celebrities are primarily responsible for shaping modern societal values.
C.Celebrities have taken on the role of traditional social groups for some.
D.Celebrities play a minor role in modern society compared to historical figures.
35.Which of the following statements would the author be most likely to agree with?

A.Fascination with celebrities is mainly driven by modern media
B.Fascination with celebrities is a harmless and natural human instinct with historical roots.
C.Fascination with celebrities is an unhealthy addiction that needs to be controlled.

The issue is not whether or not dogs feel emotions.Charles Darwin wrote much about animal emotions and
singled out dogs as examples.37 Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz also observed the broad range of
emotions in dogs.
数

All of these researchers concluded that dogs have most of the same emotions that humans do,including fear,

anger, sadness, and joy.The question is not whether dogs experience emotions, since that seems to be a
scientifically accepted fact.38 Would this show up as a facial signal, like the smile of a human?
O
O
In fact, there is a limitation on the range of facial expressions produced by dogs. This is because dogs have
a muzzle(鼻口部)whose construction is different from that of our mouths. All vertebrate animals(脊椎动物),
except humans, have muzzles.Aided by powerful muscles, the muzzle is designed for strength rather than
flexibility.39
40 As a result, the muscles that give strength to the muzzle also limit the control and flexibility of
the dog's mouth area. The reduced flexibility of a dog's mouth area limits the variety of facial expressions that

dogs can make with their mouths.

A.My friends say their pet dogs smile obviously.
B.Therefore,it can be used as a weapon and a tool.
C.Strength and flexibility often work against each other.

E.This means a dog's "smile"is not a sign of friendliness.

some guests'ideas even contradicted each other, and the talk got stuck for a while.
But the organizers,58 (commit)to finding common ground, did not stop. The platform
59 they
made to let people talk freely soon worked well.
Stories from some 60(participate)brought hidden industry problems to light.Everyone saw that
their earlier conclusion was one-sided.The main speaker used clear reasons to persuade the audience, trying to get
the key points across. Many people absorbed the new information carefully.During the process, some people
61(intentionally)ignored others'views.But those who kept 62(consistency)communication
always kept differences in perspective.
In the end, this useful exchange reached 63 practical conclusion. It also showed the commitment
of people 64(work)in the industry.Every person understood that real progress 65(come)
from honest idea-sharing.The problems brought to light will push the industry forward.

Friend or Foe?
Last year,at day camp,my friend Ollie and I were on the same obstacle-course (team and had a
great time. This year,Scotty, the captain of Team Panda, insisted we pick sticks to decide which team we belonged
to.
At the beginning,we just wished we'd be on the same team again. But to our disappointment,Ollie had
picked a short stick for Team Grizzly, while I had a long stick for Team Panda. My heart sank as something were
definitely going to be different.
We all played a name game together, and then were divided into two groups to make team flags."Could
you please pass that paint?"asked a boy named Ben,"We're going to destroy the Grizzlies!Right,Arizona?"
"But Ollie,my best friend,is in Grizzly. How come I destroy him?"I asked myself shyly.
Then at lunchtime,I planned to sit with Ollie at the same table as last year, cracking each other up the way
good friends do."What are you doing?Having lunch with our enemy is not OK!!!"claimed a girl in my team.
Only then did I realize there was an invisible dividing line. All of the Grizzlies sat together, and all of the Pandas
sat together.I had no other alternative but to say goodbye to Ollie and concentrate on my lunch.
That night I hardly fell asleep.Ben's voice was saying Destroy the Grizzlies!"on repeat.I was
wondering if being a good team member meant I was supposed to put my friendship with Ollie aside. One of my
best friends was a Grizzly, and it just didn't seem fun to treat him as an enemy.
I woke up with zero energy for our first competition the next morning. We each had two tries to race
through an obstacle course. My first try was a disaster!I did OK with the monkey bars, the tunnel, and the slide.
But when I did the rope swing over the sandpit(),I went too slow and got stuck in the middle.I felt pretty
frustrated.
注意:1.续写词数应为150词左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When 1 finished the course,Ollie came over.

Before planes, people traveled by boat. And getting goods from one place to another took a long time, especially when ships had to sail around continents. In the early 1600s, European trading companies were looking for faster routes to sail to Asia.
In 1607 and 1608, British explorer Henry Hudson led two failed voyages to find a northeast passage across the Arctic Ocean to Asia. He was searching for a route above the Arctic Circle, and his biggest problem was sailing around icebergs (冰山), which blocked his path. After failing twice, Hudson couldn’t get a British company to fund his next voyage. He had to persuade the Dutch East India Company to back his third trip.
Hudson left Amsterdam on April 4, 1609 aboard a ship named the Half Moon. The crew headed southwest across the Atlantic Ocean to America. After several months, he arrived in the New York Harbor and sailed up a body of water that is now named the Hudson River. He thought the river might lead to the Pacific Ocean. But he was wrong, and he was forced to turn back to Europe.
Hudson made one final attempt in 1610, on a new ship named Discovery. He sailed Discovery across the northern Atlantic and discovered a large body of water that became known as Hudson Bay. Unfortunately, the Hudson Bay did not lead to Asia. Furthermore, Hudson’s luck had run out. Winter weather hit the region and the crew suffered greatly from lack of food and supplies. Discovery had become trapped in thick ice. Hudson’s crew became angry. They wanted to return to Europe, but Hudson wanted to continue searching for a passage to Asia. When spring came, the crew revolted (反叛) and took control of the ship. They put Hudson, his son, and seven others on a small boat somewhere in the Hudson Bay. The crew sailed Discovery back to Europe and those who led the mutiny (叛乱) were severely punished. Henry Hudson was never seen again.
24.What was the purpose of Hudson’s voyages?
A.To look for new land.
B.To seek fame and fortune.
C.To do scientific research.
D.To find a shorter route to Asia.
25.What does the underlined word “back” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Arrange. B.Follow. C.Support. D.Value.
26.Where did Hudson arrive during his third voyage?
A.Asia. B.The Hudson River.
C.Hudson Bay. D.The Pacific Ocean.
27.What do we know about Henry Hudson from the text?
A.He enjoyed his last days.
B.His three voyages were funded by the British.
C.He named a river after himself.
D.His sailing life finished with a sad ending.

There have been huge advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) programs that create art. The programs, creating artworks based on short descriptions, have amazed many people. But they have also raised tough questions.
NewsForKids.net reported on Dall-E2, a tool from OpenAI. Dall-E2 uses AI to create incredible paintings, photos, and other artworks in different styles based on simple descriptions. Since then, OpenAI has changed its rules to allow anyone to sign up and use the tool. But it’s still putting strong controls on the art that can be created. Now several other AI tools work in similar ways. These new tools are free or cheap, and don’t have some of Dall-E2’s limits.
The new tools are entertaining and powerful. They allow people to quickly see almost any idea they can imagine, even if they aren’t artists. For creative workers, the tools allow them to quickly explore new ideas.
These new AI art tools are all trained in similar ways — using massive collections of pictures with matching descriptions. The programs begin to create new images with a random pattern of dots. Step by step, they use their training to change the pattern until parts of the image begin to match the description.
However, artists are upset that they’re now competing against computers for attention, prizes and jobs. It’s hard for a single artist to compete against all the art and photography appearing on the Internet. The images and descriptions used to train these AI programs were taken from the Internet, therefore, the tools can produce images that aren’t appropriate. Yet, what concerned the artists most was that the training images were used without permission, causing questions whether what these tools are doing is fair or legal. Once created, an artwork is protected by copyright. The creators of the training pictures—the photographers, the artists, and even the people in the pictures — haven’t given permission for their images to be used.
28.How do AI art programs like Dall-E2 create artworks?
A.By changing photos taken by users.
B.By using short descriptions as a basis.
C.By asking professional artists for help.
D.By copying existing famous paintings.
29.What aspect of AI art tools does paragraph 4 focus on?
A.Their strong functions. B.Their wide application.
C.Their working principle. D.Their common features.
30.Which factor related to the AI art tools upsets artists most?
A.The huge collecting capacity of the Internet.
B.The great creative ability beyond imagination.
C.The inappropriate artwork created by the tools.
D.The illegal use of training images from the Internet.
31.What makes the best title for the text?
A.AI Art Tools: Newborn Innovations.
B.AI Art Tools: Powerful Competitors.
C.AI Art Tools Amaze or Upset Artists?
D.AI Art Tools Improve Art Significantly?
D
You might forgive a casual visitor to Earth for thinking that the leaders here all wear beautiful clothes, have gleaming white teeth and wave continually while they walk down red carpets into luxurious buildings. Judging by the never-ending TV coverage of award ceremonies and the stacks of glossy magazines piled up by supermarket checkouts, it’s easy to see why this mistake might be made. Our fixation on celebrities has never been more evident. But according to psychologists, this obsession may be nothing new. Our fascination with the rich and famous goes way back, with people looking to kings and queens for examples of how to dress and behave. For instance, the popularity of the traditional white wedding dress can be traced back to the one worn by Queen Victoria at her wedding in 1840. Before this, brides traditionally wore dresses in all sorts of colours. Going back even further, our earliest ancestors lived in tribes, where leaders were watched carefully for clues on how best to survive. We still live in a society dominated by hierarchies and our modern-day obsession with celebrities could simply be an extension of a basic instinct to pay close attention to those at the top.
What has changed, of course, is the rise of the media, and with it, easier access to these glamorous lifestyles — something celebrities are all too aware of. They know that by constantly appearing in online news feeds and reaching out to their fans, they can raise their profile and make sure they’re not forgotten. The growth of the media has also meant that there are now many more ways to become famous. Consequently, we’re no longer simply celebrity-watchers but, celebrities-in-waiting, waiting for our chance to shine on the world stage. Many of us believe that we’ll be famous one day and the idea of becoming the centre of attention is very real in many of our minds. But until then, we’re happy just watching. One theory suggests that with the decline in large families and close-knit communities, celebrities have, for some people, taken the place of these social groups. Just as we’d once been eager to find out what the neighbours were up to, we’re now keen to know everything about our new “family” members.
But is there really anything wrong with caring about what our idol is doing? Well, like most addictions, you can suffer from it to varying degrees. Many agree that for most of us, our fascination with celebrities is nothing more than a harmless interest in people who lead very different lives. And what could possibly be wrong with that?
32.Why does the passage mention the origin of the white wedding dress?
A.To illustrate the influence of leaders on fashion choices.
A.Fascination with celebrities is mainly driven by modern media.
B.Fascination with celebrities is a harmless and natural human instinct with historical roots.
C.Fascination with celebrities is an unhealthy addiction that needs to be controlled.
D.Fascination with celebrities is driven by the curiosity about other’s privacy.
第二节(共5小题, 每小题2. 5分, 共12. 5分)
A woman who owned a tailless (无尾的) dog asked me, “My dog doesn’t have a tail to move back and forth to tell me whether he is happy or not. 36 I wonder if I am failing to recognize some hidden signals that might actually be a doggy smile. ”
The issue is not whether or not dogs feel emotions. Charles Darwin wrote much about animal emotions and singled out dogs as examples. 37 Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz also observed the broad range of emotions in dogs.
All of these researchers concluded that dogs have most of the same emotions that humans do, including fear, anger, sadness, and joy. The question is not whether dogs experience emotions, since that seems to be a scientifically accepted fact. 38 Would this show up as a facial signal, like the smile of a human?
In fact, there is a limitation on the range of facial expressions produced by dogs. This is because dogs have a muzzle (鼻口部) whose construction is different from that of our mouths. All vertebrate animals (脊椎动物) , except humans, have muzzles. Aided by powerful muscles, the muzzle is designed for strength rather than flexibility. 39
40 As a result, the muscles that give strength to the muzzle also limit the control and flexibility of the dog’s mouth area. The reduced flexibility of a dog’s mouth area limits the variety of facial expressions that dogs can make with their mouths.
A.My friends say their pet dogs smile obviously.
B.Therefore, it can be used as a weapon and a tool.
C.Strength and flexibility often work against each other.
D.That’s because they feel many of us human’ emotions.
E.This means a dog’s “smile” is not a sign of friendliness.
F.I have watched his face a lot, but he never seems to smile.
G.Instead, understanding how dogs show emotions like joy is more important.

Friend or Foe?
Last year, at day camp, my friend Ollie and I were on the same obstacle- course (障碍赛) team and had a great time. This year, Scotty, the captain of Team Panda, insisted we pick sticks to decide which team we belonged to.
At the beginning, we just wished we’d be on the same team again. But to our disappointment, Ollie had picked a short stick for Team Grizzly, while I had a long stick for Team Panda. My heart sank as something were definitely going to be different.
We all played a name game together, and then were divided into two groups to make team flags. “Could you please pass that paint?” asked a boy named Ben, “We’re going to destroy the Grizzlies! Right, Arizona?”
“But Ollie, my best friend, is in Grizzly. How come I destroy him?”I asked myself shyly.
Then at lunchtime, I planned to sit with Ollie at the same table as last year, cracking each other up the way good friends do. “What are you doing? Having lunch with our enemy is not OK!!!” claimed a girl in my team. Only then did I realize there was an invisible dividing line. All of the Grizzlies sat together, and all of the Pandas sat together. I had no other alternative but to say goodbye to Ollie and concentrate on my lunch.
That night I hardly fell asleep. Ben’s voice was saying “ Destroy the Grizzlies!” on repeat. I was wondering if being a good team member meant I was supposed to put my friendship with Ollie aside. One of my best friends was a Grizzly, and it just didn’t seem fun to treat him as an enemy.
I woke up with zero energy for our first competition the next morning. We each had two tries to race through an obstacle course. My first try was a disaster! I did OK with the monkey bars, the tunnel, and the slide. But when I did the rope swing over the sandpit(沙坑), I went too slow and got stuck in the middle. I felt pretty frustrated.

【答案】17.A 18.A 19.C 20.B
【原文】 W: The Worcester Public Library announced that through the end of March, people who have lost or damaged a book or other borrowed items can bring a photograph, drawing or magazine clipping of a cat, and make their library cards work again without paying fines. The library called the program March Meowness, a way to forgive people who lost or damaged borrowed items by accident. Jason Homer, the executive director of the library, said in an interview on Monday that about 400 people had their library accounts unblocked and could borrow books again after bringing in their pictures or drawings of cats. In one case, a cat-less 7-year-old boy, who lost the book Captain Underpants, had his library card work again after the staff gave him paper and a pencil to draw a cat.
Like many public libraries in the United States, the Worcester Public Library is trying to encourage people to return there after the pandemic. The library had previously tried to raise the number of visitors with canned food drives. The library staff held meetings for several months to come up with different creative ways to get people back through the library doors. After these meetings, the Meowness program took shape. While the library had previously stopped charging fines for late returns, many people who faced fees for lost items simply stayed away. One woman named Julie, who had lost library DVDs by accident, regained access to her account with a photograph of a cat.

【答案】24.D 25.C 26.B 27.D
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章记叙了英国探险家Henry Hudson为了找一条通往亚洲的更便捷的航线而进行的四次海上航行。
【详解】24.细节细节题。根据第一段最后一句“In the early 1600s, European trading companies were looking for faster routes to sail to Asia.(在17世纪早期,欧洲贸易公司正在寻找通往亚洲的更快路线。)”和第二段第一句“In 1607 and 1608, British explorer Henry Hudson led two failed voyages to find a northeast passage across the Arctic Ocean to Asia.(1607年和1608年,英国探险家Henry Hudson领导了两次失败的航行,试图找到一条穿越北冰洋到亚洲的东北通道。)”可知,Hudson的目的是找到一条通往亚洲的更便捷的航线。故选D。
25.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“After failing twice, Hudson couldn’t get a British company to fund his next voyage. He had to persuade the Dutch East India Company to back his third trip.(两次失败后,Hudson找不到一家英国公司资助他的下一次航行。他不得不说服荷兰东印度公司back他的第三次航行。)”可知,两次航行失败后,没有英国公司再出资支持Hudson的下一次航行,他不得不去说服荷兰东印度公司资助他的第三次航行,back在句中与fund意义接近,意为“资助”,与support同义。故选C。
26.细节理解题。根据第二段最后一句“He had to persuade the Dutch East India Company to back his third trip.(他不得不说服荷兰东印度公司资助他的第三次航行。)”、第三段中的“Hudson left Amsterdam on April 4, 1609 aboard a ship named the Half Moon.(1609年4月4日,Hudson乘坐一艘名为‘半月号’的船离开阿姆斯特丹。)”以及“After several months, he arrived in the New York Harbor and sailed up a body of water that is now named the Hudson River.(几个月后,他抵达了纽约港,并沿着一条如今被称为哈德逊河的水域航行前行。)”可知,哈德逊第三次航海到达了如今的哈德逊河(Hudson River)。故选B。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Hudson made one final attempt in 1610, on a new ship named Discovery.(1610 年,Hudson进行了最后一次尝试,乘坐的是一艘名为‘发现号’的新船。)”以及“Discovery had become trapped in thick ice. Henry Hudson was never seen again.(‘发现号'被困在厚厚的冰层中。

根据文章第一段“The programs, creating artworks based on short descriptions, have amazed many people.(这些程序根据简短的描述创作艺术品,这让许多人感到惊讶。)”以及第二段“Dall-E2 uses AI to create incredible paintings, photos, and other artworks in different styles based on simple descriptions.(Dall-E2利用AI根据简单的描述创作出不同风格的、令人难以置信的绘画、照片和其他艺术品。)”可知,像Dall-E2这样的AI艺术程序是根据简短的描述来创作艺术品的。
29.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“These new AI art tools are all trained in similar ways — using massive collections of pictures with matching descriptions. The programs begin to create new images with a random pattern of dots. Step by step, they use their training to change the pattern until parts of the image begin to match the description.(这些新型的AI艺术工具,训练方式大同小异——均依托海量的图片及与之匹配的文字描述进行训练。程序会以随机的点阵图案起步,开始生成全新图像。随后,它们会借助训练所学,逐步调整这一图案,直至图像的部分内容与文字描述相契合。)”可知本段清晰地阐述了这些工具是如何工作的,可推理出本段聚焦于AI工具的工作原理。
30.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“Yet, what concerned the artists most was that the training images were used without permission, causing questions whether what these tools are doing is fair or legal.(然而,最让艺术家们担忧的是,训练图像是在未经许可的情况下被使用的,这引发了人们对这些工具的行为是否公平或合法的质疑。)”可知,最让艺术家们感到不安的因素是这些工具非法使用了来自互联网的训练图像。
31.主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“The new tools are entertaining and powerful.(这些新工具既有趣又强大。)”以及最后一段“However, artists are upset that they’re now competing against computers for attention, prizes and jobs.(然而,艺术家们很不快,因为他们现在要与电脑争夺关注度、奖项和工作。)”
A.Fascination with celebrities is mainly driven by modern media.
B.Fascination with celebrities is a harmless and natural human instinct with historical roots.
C.Fascination with celebrities is an unhealthy addiction that needs to be controlled.
D.Fascination with celebrities is driven by the curiosity about other’s privacy.
【答案】32.A 33.B 34.C 35.B
根据第一段“Our fascination with the rich and famous goes way back, with people looking to kings and queens for examples of how to dress and behave. For instance, the popularity of the traditional white wedding dress can be traced back to the one worn by Queen Victoria at her wedding in 1840. Before this, brides traditionally wore dresses in all sorts of colours.(我们对富人和名人的迷恋由来已久,人们以国王和女王为榜样,学习穿着和行为举止。例如,传统白色婚纱的流行可以追溯到1840年维多利亚女王婚礼上所穿的婚纱。在此之前,新娘传统上穿着各种颜色的婚纱)可知,提到白色婚纱的起源是为了说明领袖对时尚选择的影响,人们会效仿女王的穿着。故选A项。
33.细节理解题。根据第一段“We still live in a society dominated by hierarchies and our modern - day obsession with celebrities could simply be an extension of a basic instinct to pay close attention to those at the top.(我们仍然生活在一个等级制度主导的社会中,我们现代对名人的痴迷可能只是一种基本本能的延伸,即密切关注处于顶层的人)可知,人们对名人着迷的主要原因是本能地被等级制度中处于顶端的人吸引。故选B项。
34.推理判断题。根据第二段“One theory suggests that with the decline in large families and close - knit communities, celebrities have, for some people, taken the place of these social groups.(一种理论认为,随着大家庭和紧密社区的减少,对一些人来说,名人已经取代了这些社会群体)”可知,文章暗示在现代社会中,对一些人来说,名人承担了传统社会群体的角色。故选C项。
35.推理判断题。根据第一段“Our fascination with the rich and famous goes way back, with people looking to kings and queens for examples of how to dress and behave.(我们对富人和名人的迷恋由来已久,人们以国王和女王为榜样,学习穿着和行为举止。)”以及最后一段“Many agree that for most of us, our fascination with celebrities is nothing more than a harmless interest in people who lead very different lives.(许多人认为,对我们大多数人来说,对名人的迷恋只不过是对那些过着截然不同生活的人产生的一种无伤大雅的兴趣。)”可知,作者认为对名人的迷恋有历史根源,且对大多数人来说是一种无害的兴趣,是一种自然的人类本能。故选B项。

根据上文“My dog doesn’t have a tail to move back and forth to tell me whether he is happy or not.(我的狗没有尾巴可以来回摇动来告诉我它是否开心)”以及下文“I wonder if I am failing to recognize some hidden signals that might actually be a doggy smile.(我想知道自己是不是没能识别出那些可能是狗狗微笑的隐藏信号)”可知,此空需要承接前文“无法判断情绪”的内容,引出对“狗狗微笑”的疑惑,本空应说明作者观察狗狗脸部的情况,F选项“I have watched his face a lot, but he never seems to smile.(我经常观察它的脸,但它似乎从来都不会笑)”既衔接了前文对狗狗情绪表达的关注,又呼应了下文“识别狗狗微笑信号”的疑问,符合语境。故选F项。
37.根据上文“Charles Darwin wrote much about animal emotions and singled out dogs as examples.(查尔斯·达尔文撰写了大量关于动物情绪的文章,并专门以狗为例)”以及下文“Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz also observed the broad range of emotions in dogs.(诺贝尔奖得主康拉德·洛伦兹也观察到狗有着丰富多样的情绪)”可知,此空需要解释达尔文以狗为例的原因。D选项“That’s because they feel many of us human’emotions.(这是因为它们能感受到我们人类的多种情绪)”中的“they”指代“dogs”,点明了狗被选为研究案例的核心原因,同时衔接下文洛伦兹的相关观察,符合语境。故选D项。
38.根据上文“The question is not whether dogs experience emotions, since that seems to be a scientifically accepted fact.(问题不在于狗是否会产生情绪,因为这似乎已是科学公认的事实)”以及下文“Would this show up as a facial signal, like the smile of a human?(这种情绪会以面部信号的形式表现出来吗,比如像人类的微笑一样?)”
39.根据上文“Aided by powerful muscles, the muzzle is designed for strength rather than flexibility.(在强劲肌肉的支撑下,狗的鼻口部构造更注重力量而非灵活性)”可知,此空需要进一步说明鼻口部“力量感”带来的作用。B选项“Therefore, it can be used as a weapon and a tool.(因此,它可以被当作武器和工具来使用)”中的“Therefore”表因果关系,“it”指代前文的“muzzle”,且“weapon and tool”对应前文的“strength”,阐明了鼻口部力量感的实际用途,符合语境。故选B项。
40.根据下文“As a result, the muscles that give strength to the muzzle also limit the control and flexibility of the dog’s mouth area.(结果就是,赋予鼻口部力量的肌肉,也限制了狗狗嘴部区域的控制力和灵活性)”可知,此空需要点明“力量”与“灵活性”之间的对立关系,为下文的结论做铺垫。C选项“Strength and flexibility often work against each other.(力量和灵活性往往是相互制约的)”精准概括了二者的矛盾关系,“work against each other”对应下文肌肉带来的“力量”与“灵活性受限”的结果,符合语境。故选C项。

【答案】例文
Digital Communication: A Bridge at Home?
There is no doubt that digital communication has become an essential part of family life. I firmly believe it acts as a helpful bridge connecting family members.
It shortens the distance between family members, allowing us to keep in touch easily wherever we are. It also helps us share daily moments and strengthen emotional bonds. Besides, it enables timely communication when misunderstandings occur.
However, we should not depend too much on it. Only by balancing digital communication and face-to-face talks can we make full use of this bridge to improve family relationships.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When 1 finished the course, Ollie came over.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On my second time through the obstacle course, Ollie stood up for me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文
