Mary Anning was born in Lyme Regis, a seaside town in the UK, in 1799. Her parents had ten kids, but only Mary and her brother Joseph grew up.
Mary’s father didn’t make much money in his job as a cupboard maker, so he decided to make their life better by looking for fossils (化石) at the beach and selling them to tourists. Young Mary and Joseph would join him, and they developed a deep love of fossil-hunting.
After their father died in 1810, Mary and Joseph carried on hunting fossils to support the family. When Mary was 12, they found a strange 5.2-metre-long skeleton (骨骼). At first, scientists thought it was a fish-like living thing from far-away places. Later, they realized it was an ancient animal.

In 2019, the brand-new 520-kilometer Kisumu-Eldoret railway was completed and opened. Before its birth, the only transport ways connecting Kisumu, Uganda’s main lake port, and Eldoret, Uganda’s inland capital city, were bumpy country roads and an old railway track built in 1905. The outdated trains ran at a very low speed. It would take 11 hours to travel from Kisumu to Eldoret by the old train.
Luckily, this new railway built with Chinese aid has already shortened the passenger travel time between the two cities to nearly three hours. At present, more than 1.8 million passengers take this railway every single year.
Local Ugandan residents gain plenty of advantages from this new railway. A local civil servant shared, “I’m really satisfied with the railway built by our Chinese partners. Great changes have taken place in our small town these years, and all the villagers here live a wealthier life.” A local trader added, “I’ve taken this new train many times since 2019, and the experience is wonderful. It’s cheap and super convenient. I can reach business sites on schedule and finish trade deals without trouble.” The railway also makes transporting fresh food much easier. A market manager said, “In the past, we needed hundreds of trucks to carry fruit and vegetables between the two cities, but now only two or three train carriages can finish the job.” Thanks to this railway, locals can eat more fresh farm food every day.
Even though China and Uganda are thousands of miles apart, this railway fully shows that different nations can cooperate closely to build a better shared world.
26.How long is the Kisumu-Eldoret railway?
A.1905 kilometres. B.520 kilometres.
C.11 kilometres. D.1,800 kilometres.
27.When was the original old railway track built?
A.In 2019. B.In 1905. C.In 2005. D.In 1950.
28.How many hours did people spend traveling from Kisumu to Eldoret by the old train before?
A.About 3 hours. B.About 6 hours. C.About 11 hours. D.About 18 hours.
29.Which statement is TRUE according to the article?

B.The new railway makes local villagers much poorer.
C.Transporting food becomes simpler because of the new railway.
D.Very few people choose to take this new railway each year.
30.What is the main idea of the whole passage?

so表结果,and表并列,because表原因,不符合逻辑。
根据后文“Sarah encourages the neighbors”可知,她是带头人,led by表示“由……
根据“The garden is thriving day by day.”

根据后文“It’s not just about growing food; it’s about growing friendships”可知,她希望大家参与,join in符合逻辑。start out“出发”、get up“起床”、run away“跑开”与参与社区活动无关。
根据“doubtful”和“the garden might be broken or misused”可知,此处指顾虑情绪,worrying“ 担心” 符合文意。

21.根据第一段第一句“Mary Anning was born...in 1799.”和第三段第二句“When Mary was 12, they found a strange 5.2-metre-long skeleton.”,玛丽出生于1799年,12岁时即“1811年”。
22.根据第三段“At first, scientists thought it was a fish-like living thing from far-away places.”,玛丽发现的第一个恐龙被科学家认为是一种像鱼一样的生物。
23.根据最后一段“although she was well-known for her discoveries, she wasn’t taken seriously as a scientist, because she was a woman and came from a poor family. Some men-scientists even said her discoveries were theirs.”,尽管她因自己的发现而闻名,但她并未被当作一位科学家来认真对待,因为她是个女性,而且出身贫寒。
24.第二段最后一句“Young Mary and Joseph would join him, and they developed a deep love of fossil-hunting.”,“加入父亲一起寻找化石”在童年时期,时间线最早(d);第三段第一句“After their father died in 1810”,父亲去世在1810年(a);第三段“When Mary was 12, they found a strange 5.2-metre-long skeleton (骨骼).”,发现第一个恐龙在12岁,即“1811年”(b);根据第四段“In 1823, Mary and her dog made another big discovery: a long-necked dinosaur”,发现长颈恐龙在1823年(c)。正确顺序:d→a→b→c。

Mrs Li is over 80 years old. She has lived in Beijing all her life. A reporter interviewed her yesterday. The following are their questions and answers.
Q: What was your life like in the past?
A: My family lived in a tiny house on a farm. My father was a postman, and he often worked twelve hours a day outside in the winter cold or in the summer heat. My mum was a farm girl before she met my father. She was a kind and loving mother. She didn’t go out to work. There were five children in my family, and looking after us was more than a full-time job.
The food we ate was simple. We could only eat meat once or twice a year. I wasn’t sent to school because my family couldn’t afford the tuition (学费).
Q: How has life changed?
A: Families have got smaller than they were in the past. The role of women has changed too. My daughter is really lucky. She has a good education. I’m happy that she can go to work even after getting married, but sometimes I feel lonely because she can’t come to see me often.
Transport and travel are easier today. When I was young, I went everywhere on foot. Now we can take the bus, drive the car or ride the shared bikes. What I don’t like is that there’s so much more traffic. It’s so difficult to cross the road. And, of course, we have televisions today and I really enjoy watching TV. But I hate some of the shows because they are too noisy for me.
Generally speaking, I think life is better today. We eat better and we live longer.

In 1823, Mary and her dog made another big discovery: a long-necked dinosaur which looked so strange that many people thought it was false at first! She also found a flying dinosaur. These helped her know what their lives were like. She learned geology and scientific drawing by herself later. Mary was so highly skilled that she took important scientists to fossil hunting and discussed ideas with them.
Mary died in 1847. In her life, although she was well-known for her discoveries, she wasn’t taken seriously as a scientist, because she was a woman and came from a poor family. Some men-scientists even said her discoveries were theirs. But now Mary is widely considered as an early explorer in the study of fossils and the greatest fossil hunter ever!

Changes of My City
In recent years, with the rapid development of our country, great changes have taken place in the city we live in.
In the past, people went out by buses or bikes. Now, e-bikes, e-cars and subways are common. People used to shop in markets and watch TV at home. But now they enjoy online shopping, play in community squares and even travel abroad. Besides, rivers were dirty and there were few trees. Now the city is clean with many flowers.
But pollution from traffic is still a problem. I hope our city will become greener and more beautiful. I believe everyone will live a happier life here.
