After a whole day’s work in my office, I walked home. On the busy street, I saw a young man selling some small toys sround the corner. Usually, I would hurry past such sellers and never buy anything, But when I noticed he was blind, I decided to stand there for some time. I wanted to see how he sold his toys.
Soon, a little girl came with her mother and wanted a toy. The toy was 18 yuan. The mother took out a 20-yuan note. She told the young man how much she was giving him and wanted the change(零钱) back. I was wondering what he was·going to do next. He told the mother to put the money in his bag and get the change herself. Then she did so.
What the young man did shocked me. He chose to trust people even if he couldn’t see. I was so touched that I made a decision to buy a toy although I didn’t need it at all. He said it cost 18 yuan and I told him that I had only one 20-yuan note. Again he told me to do the same thing as the mother. I put my 20 yuan in his bag, but I didn’t take any change.
As I walked down the street, I saw a little boy with his father and I gave him the toy I bought. I was happy to see the smile on his face.

Recently, there has been good news for families with young children in China. The government has introduced a new childcare subsidy (补贴) policy to ease the financial burden (经济负担) of raising kids.
To apply, parents or guardians have two choices: using the online childcare subsidy information system, which is very convenient, or applying in person. When applying, they need to prepare simple materials like the child’s birth certificate and household registration booklet (户口簿) . The subsidy will be paid directly into the bank account (账户) of the applicant (申请人) or the child making sure it reaches families safely.
This policy is really helpful. Starting from January 1, 2025, families with children under 3 years old can receive a subsidy. The national basic standard is 3,600 yuan per child every year, and it will be given until the child turns 3. Whether it’s the first, second or third child, each is eligible (合格的) . For example, if a family has a 2-year-old child, they can get 600 yuan this year. For children born before 2025 but still under 3, the subsidy will be calculated based on the remaining months until they turn 3. Raising children costs a lot-from milk powder and diapers to early education. The subsidy can support families with these expenses. It shows the government care about families and wants to help them raise the next generation. With this support, parents can focus more on their children’s growth, feeling less worried about money.
We hope this policy brings more joy and less stress to families, helping every child in China have a better future.
26. What is the main purpose of China’s new childcare subsidy policy?
A. To encourage more families to travel
B. To reduce the financial pressure of raising children
C. To improve children’s education level
D. To help families buy new houses
27. When can families start receiving the childcare subsidy?
A. From January 1st,2024. B. From July 1st,2025.
C. From January 1st,2025. D. From December 31st,2025.
28. How much is the national basic subsidy for one child each year?
A. 3.000 yuan. B. 4.000 yuan. C. 5.000 yuan. D. 3.600 yuan.
29. Which children are eligible (符合) for the subsidy?
A. Only the first child in a family. B. Children over 3 years old.
C. All children under 3 years old. D. Only children born in 2025.
30. For a child born in 2023, how will the subsidy be calculated (计算) ?

Have you heard of the saying “Don’t judge (评价) a book by its cover”? Well, in Chinese, we have a similar saying “Don’t judge people by their looks”.
Imagine you meet someone new at school. They might look different from you in hair, clothes or looks. It’s important not to make any judgments about them just because of how they look.
Sometimes, people make a mistake by judging others by their looks. They might think someone is mean or unfriendly just because they have a serious face or wear unusual clothes. But sometimes seeing is not believing!
In reality, people are like books with a great many pages. In order to understand them, we need to “read” them. That means talking with them, learning about their interests and ideas, and spending time with them. Think about your best friends. When you met them for the first time, you might not know they would be your friends. But as you spent time together, you realized how amazing they were.
Don’t judge people by their looks, and open our hearts to the people around us. If we do so, we’ ll start to understand and treasure the differences between us, like different cultures, different backgrounds, and different ways of thinking.
So, let’s keep an open mind and be nice to everyone we meet, no matter how they look. When we do so, we’ ll make a world where everyone feels important and accepted. After all, the most amazing things are hidden. They are in each one of us!
