Guided writing (25’) 【答案】 A Glimpse of Mingqi Campus My short video, “Colors of Youth”, captures the vibrant moments of campus life. The footage opens with students reading under the maple trees in the morning, followed by clips of a lively debate competition, a basketball match cheered by the crowd, and art club members painting sunset on the rooftop. I also included a scene of teachers helping students with math problems after class, and the canteen’s colorful food stalls at lunchtime. I chose these scenes because they reflect the true spirit of our school. The morning reading shows academic passion, the sports and art activities display creativity, and the teacher-student interactions highlight care. The video aims to prove that youth is not just about textbooks, but about growing in a colorful, dynamic environment. Through these frames, I hope to share the warmth and energy that make our campus a second home. 1 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $Listening comprehension section a directions in section a, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. Growing up with so many brothers and sisters, she learned to focus, negotiate and talk fast,or she wouldn't get a chance to do anything. Most importantly, she learned that it was necessary to have a seat at the table to defend yourself. For example,if a lamp broke while you were away and couldn't explain what happened, you might get grounded as punishment. An extremely gifted girl,Alaa graduated from high school at age 15.After that, the family moved to her parents'hometown in Libya. The following year she began studying at the College of Medicine at Al Zawiya University in Libya, graduating in 2013. In the midst of her medical studies, civil war broke out in Libya in February 2011.It wasn't until then,at age 21,that Murabit sensed a cultural shift as women were given a seat at the table. They were finally involved in decision-making and information-sharing to help deal with the war happening around them. But,when political leaders convinced women to go back to their old roles, many lost their chance to have a say in important matters. It was then that Murabit founded The Voice of Libyan Women,a national organization to advance women's rights. The organization works to improve political participation and empower women economically.Additionally, she helps to promote security for all, create strategies for establishing and maintaining peace and encourages faith-supported peacebuilding. Following medical school,Murabit went on to receive a master's degree from the London School of Economics while continuing to push for women's rights. She talked in schools and homes and put up posters and signboards around the country promoting those rights. She fights not only for women but also for the health of the world.Dr.Murabit's leadership helped to shape the United Nations'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)in 2015,impacting billions of people for the better. 59.What important lesson did Alaa learn from growing up in a large family? (C) All over the world, from Baltimore to Auckland, coastal cities are facing the same issue:the regeneration of their docklands().These areas, which were once at the very heart of urban activity, have emptied over time as modern shipping requirements have moved the docks further out of town. The resultant migration of population and decline in commercial activity are two effects which therefore need to be addressed. A key factor in this has been the growth of the container industry, now responsible for over 75%of goods transported worldwide. As a consequence of this, ships have progressively increased in size to such a degree that larger docks are required and more sophisticated and efficient cranes. This has led to the decline of city-centre docks along with services and homes connected to them.Another direct result of this is that ships spend less time in port, and thus there are fewer crew members spending money in these areas. One alternative source of revenue is the cruise industry, with a number of cities building facilities for cruise liners which can bring over 5,000 tourists into a place in one day. As a result of this migration from waterfront areas, hundreds of acres of land have been left to waste away This has meant in some cities an increase in crime in these parts as gangs have taken control and squciters 占用他人房子的人)have taken up residence..As the situation has got worse, the appeal of these areas for locals or 试题第11页(共16页) tourists has decreased. This vicious circle can only be broken through redevelopment. .: O Governments, therefore, have had to make important financial and strategic decisions about these : waterfronts, whether they are giving onto a river,a lake,a bay or the sea.In Baltimore, for example, the decision was taken to regenerate the docklands as an area for professional offices and small start-ups as well as remarketing the area as a destination for conferences, events, cyclists and urban tourists. & This meant that all the services and infrastructure required for these segments had to be put in place.I think the statistics attached prove that the project was a great success, due in part to the consultation and planning stages, which led to a unified plan. O 卡 张 In conclusion,I would state that although it is sad to see the decline of such important historical waterfront areas, the resulting renovation can lead to economic and social improvements of great value.I would therefore strongly advocate regeneration plans which bring services, activity and people back to these wastelands and which restore them to an important role in the city 游 数 63.The second paragraph is mainly about 拼 A.changes in shipping B.the decline of the docklands C.a solution to docklands'decline D.the rise of the cruise industry S 64.Migration from the docklands had led to A.poverty B.homelessness C.an increase in crime D.less appealing residences 65.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE? Habitat destruction is the main reason why animals become endangered and this happens in two ways. When humans move into a new area, the animals'habitat is destroyed and there is nothing to eat because humans chop down trees and build houses and farms.Animal habitats are also destroyed because of pollution.Chemicals in rivers and poisons on farms cause the destruction of habitats and animals can no longer live there. Endangered species are also the result of hunting and fishing.Animals are killed for their fur, bones or skin, or just for sport )Some seal species are now on the verge of extinction because they are killed for their fur to make coats.Tigers are shot to make medicine and tea from their bones, and crocodiles are caught to make bags and shoes.Overfishing means that large sea creatures like whales, tuna and sharks have all become endangered species, because too many are caught to make things like shark's fin soup. So what can individuals and governments do to protect animal and plant species from becoming endangered? We should take care not to pollute natural areas, and farmers or companies who destroy animal habitats should face a financial penalty ()Governments can help, too,by making it against the law to hunt, fish or trade in endangered species. If we all cooperate by taking these steps,we will protect our planet so that our children and their children can enjoy it too. 71 VI.Translation(15') 72. VII.Guided writing (25') Directions:Write an English composition in 100-120 words according to the instructions given below in Chinese. I. Section B Directions: In section B, you will hear two passages and one longer conversation. After each passage or conversation, you'll be asked several questions. The passages and the conversation will be read twice, but the questions will bespoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard. Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. You might have heard of the expression“a guilty pleasure” ——maybe it's the chocolate bar you buy on the way home from work, or the new clothes that you don't really need. It comes from the idea that when we treat ourselves. It can sometimes leave us feeling guilty. But do we really have to feel guilty about treating ourselves? Perhaps not. Psychologists have suggested that buying things for yourself can make you feel better as it provides an opportunity to take control of your situation. It can give you social contact as well as a confidence boost from changes you make to your self-image.It may be that as well as lifting your mood. When you buy a treat, you might just be looking after yourself. Of course, there are also examples of people turning to destructive behavior when faced with stressful circumstances. People might spend money that they don't have or turn to dangerous addictions. Psychologist Leon Seltzer considers the difference between self-indulgence and self-nurturing. Self-indulgence can have negative consequences, while self-nurturing is taking responsible decisions to satisfy our needs in positive ways. So psychologists recommend rewarding yourself for your efforts, doing things that you enjoy and are good at so that you can feel accomplishment and avoid things that may make you feel worse afterwards. (Now listen again.) Questions 11. What does the term“guilty pleasure” refer to? 12. What is a potential effect of buying things for oneself? 13. Which of the following behavior is self-nurturing? Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage. Wearing sunscreen is widely acknowledged as being one of the best things we can do for our health. Despite repeated public health warnings about the risks of sun exposure, there's a lot of confusion around how, and when, to apply sunscreen. Why do we need to protect our skin from the sun?“When we're exposed to the sun,UV radiation damages the DNA, proteins and other molecules found within our skin cells”, says Richard Gallo, professor of medicine at the University of California. In moderate amounts, exposure to UV radiation from sunlight helps our skin cells generate vitamin D. But as we expose our skin to more sunlight, it tries to protect itself by producing a dark substance in the skin. Exposure to UV radiation is the main cause of skin cancer. Experts usually recommend that people apply sunscreen 20-30 minutes before sun exposure to allow time for it to absorb into the skin. It might be wise to apply it twice, since studies show that most people tend to under-apply sunscreen. Applying it twice may reduce the surface area of skin that people missed the first time around. Scientists also advise reapplying sunscreen after sweating, being in water, or if our skin has rubbed up against clothing or sand. (Now listen again.) Questions 14. Why should people wear sunscreen? 15. What is the recommended method for applying sunscreen? 16. What is the purpose of the passage? Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation. Sarah: That's a great choice. Nature photography can be very rewarding. Have you considered any specific locations for your photography? Alex: I'm thinking about visiting the national parks. I've heard the Grand Canyon is spectacular this time of year. Sarah: It truly is. The lighting and colors at sunrise and sunset are perfect for photography. Alex: I'm also wondering about the equipment I should get started with. Any suggestions? Sarah: For beginners, a good DSLR camera with a multifunctional lens is a solid start. As you progress, you can invest in more specialized lenses and equipment. Alex: Thanks for the tips, Sarah. I'm excited to get started and capture some beautiful scenes. Sarah: You're welcome, Alex. Remember, practice is key, and don't forget to enjoy the process. (Now listen again.) Questions 17. Her younger years were filled with fun and kindness. Her supportive parents treated her and her siblings with equality and fairness. Her father emphasized the importance of education and gender equality, which greatly influenced her views on social justice. Growing up with so many brothers and sisters, she learned to focus, negotiate and talk fast, or she wouldn’t get a chance to do anything. Most importantly, she learned that it was necessary to have a seat at the table to defend yourself. For example, if a lamp broke while you were away and couldn’t explain what happened, you might get grounded as punishment. An extremely gifted girl, Alaa graduated from high school at age 15. After that, the family moved to her parents’ hometown in Libya. The following year she began studying at the College of Medicine at Al Zawiya University in Libya, graduating in 2013. In the midst of her medical studies, civil war broke out in Libya in February 2011. It wasn’t until then, at age 21, that Murabit sensed a cultural shift as women were given a seat at the table. They were finally involved in decision-making and information-sharing to help deal with the war happening around them. But, when political leaders convinced women to go back to their old roles, many lost their chance to have a say in important matters. It was then that Murabit founded The Voice of Libyan Women, a national organization to advance women’s rights. The organization works to improve political participation and empower women economically. Additionally, she helps to promote security for all, create strategies for establishing and maintaining peace and encourages faith-supported peacebuilding. Following medical school, Murabit went on to receive a master’s degree from the London School of Economics while continuing to push for women’s rights. She talked in schools and homes and put up posters and signboards around the country promoting those rights. She fights not only for women but also for the health of the world. Dr. Murabit’s leadership helped to shape the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, impacting billions of people for the better. 59.What important lesson did Alaa learn from growing up in a large family? A.The right to defend oneself. B.The importance of strict discipline. C.The value of avoiding conflict. D.The necessity of quick decision-making. 60.What major event pushed Alaa to found The Voice of Libyan Women? A.Her early graduation from high school at age 15. B.The outbreak of civil war in Libya in 2011. C.Her medical studies at Al Zawiya University. D.Her move to London for a master’s degree. 61.What is a primary goal of The Voice of Libyan Women? These areas, which were once at the very heart of urban activity, have emptied over time as modern shipping requirements have moved the docks further out of town. The resultant migration of population and decline in commercial activity are two effects which therefore need to be addressed. A key factor in this has been the growth of the container industry, now responsible for over 75% of goods transported worldwide. As a consequence of this, ships have progressively increased in size to such a degree that larger docks are required and more sophisticated and efficient cranes. This has led to the decline of city-centre docks along with services and homes connected to them. Another direct result of this is that ships spend less time in port, and thus there are fewer crew members spending money in these areas. One alternative source of revenue is the cruise industry, with a number of cities building facilities for cruise liners which can bring over 5,000 tourists into a place in one day. As a result of this migration from waterfront areas, hundreds of acres of land have been left to waste away. This has meant in some cities an increase in crime in these parts as gangs have taken control and squatters (擅自占用他人房子的人) have taken up residence. As the situation has got worse, the appeal of these areas for locals or tourists has decreased. This vicious circle can only be broken through redevelopment. Governments, therefore, have had to make important financial and strategic decisions about these waterfronts, whether they are giving onto a river, a lake, a bay or the sea. In Baltimore, for example, the decision was taken to regenerate the docklands as an area for professional offices and small start-ups as well as remarketing the area as a destination for conferences, events, cyclists and urban tourists. This meant that all the services and infrastructure required for these segments had to be put in place. I think the statistics attached prove that the project was a great success, due in part to the consultation and planning stages, which led to a unified plan. In conclusion, I would state that although it is sad to see the decline of such important historical waterfront areas, the resulting renovation can lead to economic and social improvements of great value. I would therefore strongly advocate regeneration plans which bring services, activity and people back to these wastelands and which restore them to an important role in the city. 63.The second paragraph is mainly about ________. A.changes in shipping B.the decline of the docklands C.a solution to docklands’ decline D.the rise of the cruise industry 64.Migration from the docklands had led to ________. A.poverty B.homelessness C.an increase in crime D.less appealing residences 65.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE? A.Baltimore handled the planning stages well. B.The Baltimore regeneration was mainly for tourists. C.These days, crew members spend a lot of time in port spending money. D.Overall, the author is not in favour of the regeneration of dockland areas. 66.The last paragraph offers ________. A.a regeneration plan that is worth advocating B.another example of renovation that succeeds C.an accurate prediction about waterfronts’ future D.the author’s perspective on improving waterfront areas 【答案】63.A 64.C 65.A 66.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了全球沿海城市码头区面临衰落问题及再开发的重要性。 63.主旨大意题。根据第二段“A key factor in this has been the growth of the container industry, now responsible for over 75% of goods transported worldwide. Good News for Gamers Video games can sometimes have a bad reputation because they keep people indoors and looking at a screen instead of talking and playing with others face to face. 67 Scientists from the University of Vermont used data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) scheme, which is a study of brain development and health of children in the US as they move into adulthood. The results were taken from 2,217 children aged nine or 10. They were divided into two groups: young people who never play video games and those who play them for three or more hours a day. The young people were set two tasks. The first one measured their reaction times by seeing how quickly they could press buttons that matched images on a screen. The second test involved using their memory. 68 During the tests, their brains were scanned with fMRI, which uses magnets to measure brain activity. The people who played video games were consistently better at the two tasks, and the fMRI scans showed that they also had more activity in the parts of their brains that look after memory and attention. 69 However, it’s important to note that researchers don’t yet know if gaming improved their memory and reactions, or if they already had good memories and reactions and therefore enjoyed gaming and played a lot. 70 The team could also perhaps find out in future if particular types of video games affect people’s brain activity differently. The lead scientist on the study, Bader Chaarani says that too much screen time is not good for people’s mental well being or physical health. It is still very important to spend time outdoors in the fresh air, taking exercise and having fun with friends and family. A.This means that people who play video games show more brain activity. B.Compared with scrolling through videos on YouTube, playing video games surely makes brain more active. C.However, a new study has revealed that video games might be good for brain development in young people. D.Not all of gaming’s effects on the brain are positive despite the activated brain. E.The scientists are hoping to carry on studying the same young people as they get older to track the effects of gaming. F.They were shown pictures of people’s faces and then, a bit later, were shown more and had to say if any of the faces were the same. 【答案】67.C 68.F 69.A 70.E 【导语】这是一篇说明文。一项研究显示,玩电子游戏可能有益于年轻人大脑发育,且科学家希望继续追踪研究其影响。 67.由上文“Video games can sometimes have a bad reputation because they keep people indoors and looking at a screen instead of talking and playing with others face to face. (电子游戏有时声誉不佳,因为它们让人们呆在室内,看着屏幕,而不是与他人面对面交谈和玩耍。)”可知,前文提及游戏的负面印象。空格后介绍佛蒙特大学的研究,指出游戏对大脑发育的积极影响。C项However, a new study has revealed that video games might be good for brain development in young people.(然而,一项新研究表明电子游戏可能有益于年轻人的大脑发育。)以“However”转折,引出研究结论,既呼应上文的负面评价,又开启后文的积极发现,其中“new study”与后文“The results were taken from 2,217 children aged nine or 10”形成衔接。故选C项。 68.上文提到“The second test involved using their memory.(第二项测试涉及记忆能力。)”,说明测试内容。F项They were shown pictures of people’s faces and then, a bit later, were shown more and had to say if any of the faces were the same.(他们先看人脸图片,之后再看更多图片,需判断是否有相同面孔。)具体描述了记忆测试的流程,“shown pictures of faces”和“say if any were the same”对应“using their memory”,是对前文的详细展开。故选F项。 69.上文指出“fMRI scans showed that they also had more activity in the parts of their brains that look after memory and attention.(功能磁共振成像扫描显示,游戏者大脑中负责记忆和注意力的区域活动更活跃。)”,说明扫描结果。A项This means that people who play video games show more brain activity.(这意味着玩电子游戏的人表现出更多的大脑活动。)中的this指代前文的扫描结果,“more brain activity”是对“more activity in brain parts”的同义转述,起到总结上文的作用。故选A项。 70.下文提到“The team could also perhaps find out in future if particular types of video games affect people’s brain activity differently.(研究团队未来可能还会探究特定类型的游戏是否对大脑活动有不同影响。)”,说明未来的研究方向。E项The scientists are hoping to carry on studying the same young people as they get older to track the effects of gaming.(科学家希望继续研究同一群年轻人,追踪游戏对他们的影响。)中的“hoping to carry on studying”和“track the effects”与后文“find out in future”形成时间上的递进,共同阐述研究的延续性。故选E项。 V. Summary writing (10’) Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize in no more than 60 words the main idea of the passage and how it is illustrated. Use your own words as far as possible. Endangered Species An endangered species is a group of animals that could soon become extinct. Extinction happens when the last of the species has died out and there will be no more. Many species are nearly extinct and could disappear off the face of the earth very soon if we don’t do anything to save them. There are many reasons why-species become endangered but most of them are due to humans. Habitat destruction is the main reason why animals become endangered and this happens in two ways. When humans move into a new area, the animals’ habitat is destroyed and there is nothing to eat because humans chop down trees and build houses and farms. Animal habitats are also destroyed because of pollution. Chemicals in rivers and poisons on farms cause the destruction of habitats and animals can no longer live there. Endangered species are also the result of hunting and fishing. Animals are killed for their fur, bones or skin, or just for sport (消遣). Some seal species are now on the verge of extinction because they are killed for their fur to make coats. Tigers are shot to make medicine and tea from their bones, and crocodiles are caught to make bags and shoes. Overfishing means that large sea creatures like whales, tuna and sharks have all become endangered species, because too many are caught to make things like shark’s fin soup. So what can individuals and governments do to protect animal and plant species from becoming endangered? We should take care not to pollute natural areas, and farmers or companies who destroy animal habitats should face a financial penalty (处罚). Governments can help, too, by making it against the law to hunt, fish or trade in endangered species. If we all cooperate by taking these steps, we will protect our planet so that our children and their children can enjoy it too. 71.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 71.【答案】Animals soon to be extinct are called endangered species which are mainly caused by humans. The main reason is habitat destruction caused by humans moving into new areas and pollution. Another reason is hunting and fishing for animals’ fur, bones or skin, and sometimes sport. Individuals and governments should cooperate to protect habitat and ban hunting and fishing. The study involved 100 cognitively healthy participants aged 65 to 75. The analysis 35 two types of brain aging among the participants: accelerated and slower than expected. And those with slower brain aging had a distinct nutritional profile. A.To provide free medical care in war zones. B.To promote women’s return to previous roles. C.To encourage women to say no to traditional faith. D.To increase women’s political and economic participation. 62.Which best describes Murabit’s approach to creating change? A.Defending the traditional systems. B.Combining grassroots action with global policy. C.Rejecting all religious involvement in peacebuilding. D.Prioritizing academic research over community engagement. (C) All over the world, from Baltimore to Auckland, coastal cities are facing the same issue: the regeneration of their docklands (码头区). A.a regeneration plan that is worth advocating B.another example of renovation that succeeds C.an accurate prediction about waterfronts’ future D.the author’s perspective on improving waterfront areas Section C(8’) Directions: Read the passage carefully. V. 71.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VI. A.To provide free medical care in war zones. B.To promote women’s return to previous roles. C.To encourage women to say no to traditional faith. D.To increase women’s political and economic participation. 62.Which best describes Murabit’s approach to creating change? A.Defending the traditional systems. B.Combining grassroots action with global policy. C.Rejecting all religious involvement in peacebuilding. D.Prioritizing academic research over community engagement. (C) All over the world, from Baltimore to Auckland, coastal cities are facing the same issue: the regeneration of their docklands (码头区). A.a regeneration plan that is worth advocating B.another example of renovation that succeeds C.an accurate prediction about waterfronts’ future D.the author’s perspective on improving waterfront areas Section C(8’) Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. V. 71.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VI.
