The question of what you want to be when you grow up is something most kids have a ready answer for, but it’s not every day that a primary school student begins their career at the age of seven. But that is just what Wiradjuri girl Penelope Towney has done, making her first film at an age when many kids are still trying to find out how to use the camera.
Penelope’s short film — The Land We’re On With Penelope Towney — is coming soon to NITV and was made so that Australian students and their families can understand a little more about the culture of First Nations(Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia) through her eyes.
Memorising a speech to deliver to the camera was the most challenging part of the filming process, according to Penelope. “It took many days ... but I ended up learning the whole thing and did it without palm cards(手卡) — almost 400 words,” she said.
One inspiration for making the film is the Know Your Country campaign(活动), led by First Nations and supported by World Vision, which aims to have a First Nations cultural educator in every Australian primary school.
“I’ve attended a school before where we’ve had First Nations educators,” Penelope said. “There were black kids and white kids, all learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture together. It was really great and we all loved it. I think there was more understanding between each other too. We need that.”
World Vision First Nations policy adviser and Wiradjuri man, Dr Scott Winch, said that most schools were not provided with money to have local First Nations community members to help teachers, students and schools to fill the knowledge gap(缺口).
“A good primary school education featuring positive relationships with people from the local First Nations community will set all Australian kids up for lifelong learning, appreciation and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture,” Dr Winch said.
“This is about all Australians knowing and becoming better connected to the country. This is an important gift to all Australian students that could change how Australians understand each other and their relationship to this land and the world’s oldest living culture.”
24. What did Penelope do at seven?
A. She worked for NITV. B. She shot a short film.
C. She built a great career. D. She experienced culture shock.
25. What was the hardest part for Penelope?
A. To remember the speech. B. To learn how to use the camera.
C. To make palm cards on her own. D. To understand First Nations culture.
26. What makes the school mentioned by Penelope different?
A. Being open only to white kids. B. Having First Nations educators.
C. Being supported by World Vision. D. Offering history classes every day.
27. What does Dr Winch think of the Know Your Country campaign?
A. It stresses the need for lifelong learning. B. It can improve parent-child relationships.
C. It should focus on free primary school education. D. It is important to the shared future of all Australians.

Ever thought you could adopt your very own corner of the Peak District National Park, the Eryri National Park or even Wioken Fen National Nature Reserve to help nature develop? The National Trust (NT) is hoping you’ll do just that as part of its ambitious new plans to tackle the climate and nature crises, as well as improve access to nature and cultural heritage in the UK.
The conservation charity’s new 10-year strategy includes a new “Adopt a plot” fundraising initiative at six “nature supersites”. Anyone with the ready funds will be able to sponsor nature-recovery work on a plot of land in these areas. Other parts of the NT’s strategy include creating 250, 000 more hectares of nature-rich landscape on its own land, cooperating with other landowners and local communities, improving the health of enough soil to provide a habitat for one billion earthworms, and supporting 100 towns and cities to expand their networks of green spaces through a new programme, Nature Townsand Cities, to be launched this summer.
The far-reaching 10-year strategy was informed by the results of a public consultation, when over 70, 000 people —including members and volunteers—shared their views on the Trust’s work. To pay for it all, the NT hopes to raise more funds in the next decade than it has raised in the previous 10 years. NT director general Hilary Mo Grady said, “Our charity’s founders were passionate campaigners who recognized the threats to our natural and cultural heritage, and, against the odds, did something about it. That same courage is needed today. The Trust is uniquely placed to do something about these challenges and it’s why we are setting ourselves these ambitious but much-needed goals. ”
To encourage more people to get involved, the NT will create new volunteering opportunities. For example, this spring volunteers can take part in the two-year Freshwater Renaissance project that aims to restore a network of freshwater habitats on five sites across England. Also an NT apprenticeship scheme (培训生计划) is launched for 130 young people, in careers such as IT, finance, countryside management and gardening; applications will open this year.
28. What is one aim of the National Trust?
A. Creating more plans. B. Encouraging public participation.
C. Predicting climate crises. D. Limiting access to historic sites.
29. What does paragraph 2 focus on?
A. The requirement for a sponsor. B. The risk of the 10-year strategy.
C. The content of NT’s new plans. D. The preparation for adopting plots.
30. Which of the following can best describe NT’s founders?
A. Ambitious and social. B. Enthusiastic and brave.
C. Honest and humorous. D. Fearless and outgoing.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. National Trust launches new strategy B. Let’s reconnect with Wioken Fen
C. National Trust employs more volunteers D. Let’s save up for a sustainable world

Anyone with even a passing interest in the natural world will have noticed a dramatic phenomenon this year: a lack of insects. Perhaps most noticeable is the near-absence of butterflies. Species that are usually common are in many places down to the point of having almost disappeared.
There are several probable reasons for this sudden reduction compared with typical summers. The weather has not helped, with a cool and wet spring across much of the country affecting insect numbers. But even with that factored in, this year’s sudden drop comes after many years of going down little by little. Dave Goulson, one of the UK’s leading entomologists (昆虫学家), says that insect populations compared with a century ago are 90% to 95% down. That was not caused by one wet spring: it is the result of a combination of factors that include the rise of ever more intensive farming, destruction of animals’ living environment and the impacts of climate breakdown.
Aside from the disheartening silence and stillness of gardens, woods and grasslands, there are more practical implications. For example, many of our crop plants-including tomatoes, apples and strawberries-depend on wild insects to pollinate (授粉) them. Insects are also the food source of many birds that are also in decrease.
The present position will hopefully last for a short time but is nonetheless a wake-up call about the degree of losses that have taken place in recent decades. One thing that we can all do to help is to get out and gather more information. This weekend the annual Big Butterfly Count gets under way, helping people survey their local area as part of a necessary national counting exercise — a fantastic example of citizen science in action. Nature is not just a nice thing to have: it is important for our national health, wealth and safety. Our butterflies and other insects are telling us something rather important.
32. What can we learn about this year’s butterflies?
A. Their numbers suffer a sharp drop. B. Their species are rich and varied.
C. They can be found in many places. D. Their migration habits have changed.
33. Why is Dave Goulson mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. To suggest solutions to farming issues.
B. To show insect numbers a century ago.
C. To explain the impact of the cool wet spring.
D. To offer evidence for a long-term phenomenon.
34. What does the underlined word “implications” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Effects. B. Advantages. C. Features. D. Opportunities.
35. What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph?
A. Appreciate butterflies’ beauty. B. Wait for short-term recovery.
C. Join in citizen science activities. D. Study insect losses professionally.

根据第一段中“Perhaps most noticeable is the near-absence of butterflies. Species that are usually common are in many places down to the point of having almost disappeared. (也许最明显的是蝴蝶几乎绝迹。通常很常见的物种在许多地方几乎消失殆尽。)”可知,今年蝴蝶的数量急剧下降。故选A。
根据第二段中“Dave Goulson, one of the UK’s leading entomologists (昆虫学家), says that insect populations compared with a century ago are 90% to 95% down. That was not caused by one wet spring: it is the result of a combination of factors that include the rise of ever more intensive farming, destruction of animals’ living environment and the impacts of climate breakdown. (英国顶尖昆虫学家之一戴夫·古尔森表示,与一个世纪前相比,昆虫数量减少了90%至95%。这不是一个潮湿的春天造成的:这是多种因素共同作用的结果,包括日益集约的农业兴起、动物生存环境的破坏以及气候崩溃的影响。)”可知,提到戴夫·古尔森是为了说明昆虫数量减少是一个长期现象,而非单一原因导致。故选D。
34. 词句猜测题。根据第三段中“Aside from the disheartening silence and stillness of gardens, woods and grasslands (除了花园、树林和草地的令人沮丧的寂静和静止)”以及后文“For example, many of our crop plants-including tomatoes, apples and strawberries-depend on wild insects to pollinate (授粉) them. Insects are also the food source of many birds that are also in decrease. (例如,我们的许多作物植物,包括西红柿、苹果和草莓,都依赖野生昆虫为它们授粉。昆虫也是许多鸟类的食物来源,这些鸟类的数量也在减少。)”可知,昆虫数量减少除了带来寂静的花园等直观感受外,还有更实际的影响,比如影响农作物授粉和鸟类食物来源。故implications意思是“影响”。A. Effects影响;B. Advantages优势;C. Features特征;D. Opportunities机会。故选A。
根据最后一段中“One thing that we can all do to help is to get out and gather more information. This weekend the annual Big Butterfly Count gets under way, helping people survey their local area as part of a necessary national counting exercise — a fantastic example of citizen science in action.

A. identity身份;B. posture姿势;C. preference偏爱;D. story故事。根据后文“finding similarities and friendship with someone they might have”可知,买家会在画中找到和自己相似的地方,所以是与画中人物的故事产生了共鸣。故选 D。
A. respected尊重;B. forgiven原谅;C. overlooked忽视;D. skipped跳过。
Picture yourself as the hero in a Chinese martial-arts (武术) novel. There are two paths to improve your powers. Do you choose zhengxiu, the orthodox (正统的) one that ____56____ (typical) demands decades of practice in a cave? ____57____ do you risk xiexiu, the unorthodox way? Traditional values warn against those who cheat ____58____ (establish) systems. But xiexiu has acquired a life among certain youngsters. It now represents a ____59____ (depart) from the proper way: more efficient, more creative or simply less bound by convention. In recent months, videos with the term ____60____ (draw) billions of views on social media. Some are just rebranded life tricks, such as learning English through fan fiction. Others turn into the absurd (荒谬的): reading advanced mathematics ____61____ a sleep aid.
Many young adults see xiexiu as a middle path between “996” office culture and “lying flat”. An unstable economy, rising housing costs and shaky job ____62____ (prospect) have already made the path through adulthood more uncertain. So why not turn to xiexiu?
Last month, Guangming Daily declared the trend ____63____ cheerful way for the young to deal with uncertainty and gain initiative. It stopped short of calling it a fight against authority, instead ____64____ (describe) it as “a way to seek improvement”. “Xiexiu isn’t really about teaching you cooking methods — it’s teaching you ____65____ to rethink,” reads one clear-eyed comment.
56. typically 57. Or 58. established 59. departure 60. have drawn 61. as 62. prospects 63. a 64. describing 65. how
根据句意,上文“Do you choose zhengxiu, the orthodox (正统的) one that demands decades of practice in a cave?”和“ do you risk xiexiu, the unorthodox way?” 故填Or。
故填have drawn。
根据句意,表示“作为……”,用介词as,构成介词短语as a sleep aid作状语。故填as。
故填a。
“(describe) it as “a way to seek improvement””作伴随状语,describe(描述)用非谓语动词形式,与其逻辑主语It之间是主动关系,用现在分词表主动。故填describing。
故填how。

It was the beginning of December. People were busy in my home. The living room, transformed into a sort of workshop, was piled with boxes, wrapping paper, and some colorful ribbons (缎带). At the center of it all was my mother, Lee-Ann.
Every year, Lee-Ann organized a Christmas charity drive, collecting donations, gifts, and food hampers (食品篮) for families in need within our community. It was a tradition she had started when I was just a toddler, fueled by her belief that everyone deserved to experience the joy and warmth of life, regardless of their circumstances.
“But, Mom, do you think we can manage? I mean, it’s amazing what you’re doing, but it’s a lot of work, and...” I asked.
She stopped wrapping and looked up at me, her gaze firm yet gentle. “Mark, do you know why I do this every year?” she asked.
I shook my head realizing I had never really known her motivations.
“Because,” she continued, “giving brings us together. It reminds us that we’re all part of a bigger family. And if we can make even a small difference in someone’s life, then all the effort is worth it.”
Moved by her words, I nodded, understanding for the first time the depth of her commitment.
The days that followed were a lot of activities. Our family, along with a group of volunteers drawn in by my mother’s infectious enthusiasm, worked tirelessly. We wrapped gifts, packed food hampers, and arranged deliveries. My mother was everywhere at once, encouraging, and spreading cheer.
On Christmas Eve, as we loaded the last of the hampers into the van, my mother turned to me and said, “ Ready for the final round?”
注意:(1) 续写词数应为150左右;
I smiled, filled with a sense of pride and purpose. “Let’s do it.”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“But Mom,” I replied, “you’re the real superhero here.”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I smiled, filled with a sense of pride and purpose. “Let’s do it.” As we made our rounds, delivering hampers and seeing the joy on the faces of those we helped, I felt a profound connection to the community and to my mother’s mission. Each “thank you” and every smile was a reminder of the impact of her work. Later that evening, as we sat around our own Christmas tree, my mother wrapped an arm around me. “Thank you, Mark,” she said. “For being my right-hand man.”
“But Mom,” I replied, “you’re the real superhero here.” She laughed softly. “Maybe, but every superhero needs a team. And I’ve got the best one.” That year, like every year, my mother, Lee-Ann, showed us the true meaning of giving and the power of compassion. She taught us that by coming together to support one another, we could create ripples of kindness that would extend far and wide. I was grateful to her. In my eyes, and in the eyes of our community, she was, and always will be, a superhero.
I smiled, filled with a sense of pride and purpose. “Let’s do it.” With that, we set off on our journey to distribute the gifts and food hampers to the families in need within our community. The air was crisp with the chill of winter, but it did nothing to dampen our spirits. Each family we visited was overwhelmed with gratitude, their eyes lighting up as they received the much-needed supplies. At one stop, after helping a single mother and her children unpack the hamper, my mother placed a gentle hand on my shoulder and said, “You know, you’re a hero today.”
“But Mom,” I replied, “you’re the real superhero here.” My mother’s dedication to this charity drive went beyond mere organization and planning. It was a testament to her belief in the power of giving and the importance of community. As we completed our deliveries and returned home, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for having a mother who taught me the true meaning of Christmas—not just the presents and decorations, but the joy of giving and the warmth of being part of a larger family.

Let’s save up for a sustainable world
D

According to scientist Shirley Mueller, collecting feeds the pleasure center of the brain, but without the drawbacks of alcohol or smoking. “___36___.” says Mueller. “And it’s also a way for the collector to temporarily let go of the burdens in their lives and find joy in the moment.”
___37___. More than 100,000 years ago, our ancestors searched for stones, shells, and other useless objects just as they hunted for food. In modern times, while some people collect as a statement of who they are, others collect as an investment or a source of pleasure.
Collecting requires attaining knowledge. You have to figure out where you can find the desired items, what they’re worth, and how you will organize and display your collections. Those activities stimulate areas of the brain involved in its functioning, skills that include working memory, multitasking, and controlling impulse (脉搏). ___38___.
On a physiological level, research in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience shows that physical objects have unique effects on brain functions specifically related to memory. Meanwhile, visualizing objects stimulates many areas of the brain. Each object is associated with a person, experience, or moment in time, and you can better recall those things because you have a reminder. ___39___. Each item is a clue for your memory.
___40___. Collectors often report that the friendship of other collectors is one of the most rewarding aspects of collecting. Interacting with sellers, other collectors, or even admirers of your collection can also serve as a foundation for relationship-building. It can develop both a sense of belonging and individuality.
A. Of course, collecting is not a new phenomenon
B. It is a bit challenging and tiring for us to display
C. Collecting can be a form of exercise for the mind
D. In that way, collections act as a physical time machine
E. Collecting is a way to feel a sense of safety and comfort
F. Collecting also seems to hit fundamental relationship needs
G. It takes a long time for people to form the habit of collecting

I shook my head, realizing I had never really known her motivations.

Anyone with even a passing interest in the natural world will have noticed a dramatic phenomenon this year:
a lack of insects.Perhaps most noticeable is the near-absence of butterflies.Species that are usually common are
in many places down to the point of having almost disappeared.
There are several probable reasons for this sudden reduction compared with typical summers. The weather
has not helped, with a cool and wet spring across much of the county affecting insect numbers. But even with that
factored in,this year's sudden drop comes after many years of going down little by little.Dave Goulson, one of
the UK's leading entomologists(昆虫学家),says that insect populations compared with a century ago are90%to
95%down.That was not caused by one wet spring:it is the result of a combination of factors that include the rise
of ever more intensive farming, destruction of animals'living environment and the impacts of climate breakdown.
Aside from the disheartening silence and stillness of gardens, woods and grasslands, there are more practical
implications.For example,many of our crop plants-including tomatoes,apples and strawberries-depend on wild
insects to pollinate (them.Insects are also the food source of many birds that are also in decrease.
The present position will hopefully last for a short time but is nonetheless a wake-up call about the degree of
losses that have taken place in recent decades. One thing that we can all do to help is to get out and gather more
information. This weekend the annual Big Butterfly Count gets under way, helping people survey their local area
as part of a necessary national counting exercise-a fantastic example of citizen science in action.Nature is not
just a nice thing to have:it is important for our national health, wealth and safety. Our butterflies and other insects
are telling us something rather important.
32.What can we learn about this year's butterflies?
A.Their numbers suffer a sharp drop.
B.Their species are rich and varied.
C.They can be found in many places.
D.Their migration habits have changed.
33.Why is Dave Goulson mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To suggest solutions to farming issues
B.To show insect numbers a century ago.
C.To explain the impact of the cool wet spring.
D.To offer evidence for a long-term phenomenon.
34.What does the underlined word"implications"in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Effects
B.Advantages
C.Features
D.Opportunities.
35.What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph?
A.Appreciate butterflies'beauty.
B.Wait for short-term recovery.

It was the beginning of December.People were busy in my home. The living room, transformed into a sort of
workshop, was piled with boxes, wrapping paper, and some colorful ribbons ()At the center of it all was my
mother,Lee-Ann.
Every year,Lee-Ann organized a Christmas charity drive, collecting donations, gifts, and food hampers
for families in need within our community. It was a tradition she had started when I was just a toddler, fueled
by her belief that everyone deserved to experience the joy and warmth of life, regardless of their circumstances.
"But,Mom,do you think we can manage?I mean,it's amazing what you're doing,but it's a lot of work,
and.”I asked.
She stopped wrapping and looked up at me,her gaze firm yet gentle."Mark,do you know why I do this
every year?'she asked.
I shook my head, realizing I had never really known her motivations.
"Because,"she continued,"giving brings us together. It reminds us that we're all part of a bigger family. And
if we can make even a small difference in someone's life, then all the effort is worth it."
Moved by her words,I nodded, understanding for the first time the depth of her commitment.
The days that followed were a lot of activities. Our family, along with a group of volunteers drawn in by my
mother's infectious enthusiasm,worked tirelessly.We wrapped gifts,packed food hampers,and arranged
deliveries. My mother was everywhere at once, encouraging, and spreading cheer.
On Christmas Eve,as we loaded the last of the hampers into the van,my mother turned to me and said,

I shook my head, realizing I had never really known her motivations.
