Step 2 Presentation 1.Show the conversation between Suzy and Amy.Let students read it carefully and pay attention to the sentences with the past continuous tense. 2.Explain the formation and usage of the past continuous tense.Use some simple examples to help students understand. 3.Teach the usage of “when”,“while” and “as” as conjunctions of time.Show some sentences and explain the differences among them. Step 3 Practice 1.Work on A (1)Let students complete Simon and his grandpa’s conversation with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets. (2)Ask students to read the completed conversation in pairs.Then invite some pairs to read it aloud in front of the class and check the answers. 2.Work on B (1)Let students look at Vicky’s article and complete it with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets. (2)Ask some students to write their answers on the blackboard and explain their choices.Check the answers together. 3.Work on C (1)Let students write about an emergency or a natural disaster that happened in their hometown or one they heard about,using the past continuous tense.
