Step 2 Work on A 1.Present the newspaper headlines in Part A on the screen. 2.Let students read the definitions of “emergency” and “natural disaster” carefully.Then ask them to work individually to decide which headlines are about emergencies and which are about natural disasters. 3.Check the answers together and invite some students to explain their reasons. Step 3 Work on B 1.Play the recording of the conversation between Sandy and Millie for students to listen.After that,ask students to read the conversation in pairs and pay attention to the intonation and expressions. 2.Ask students to work in pairs and talk about an emergency or a natural disaster they have heard about or experienced,following the model conversation.Encourage them to use the new words they just learnt. 3.Walk around the classroom to monitor the pairs’ conversations.Then invite some pairs to share their conversations with the class.Give the feedback.
