CES presents the latest technology offerings from companies across the world. Here is a look at some of the top products presented at the show this year. Transparent televisions   LG and Samsung brought televisions that have a transparent (透明的) screen design to CES. The TVs use OLED technology. They’re designed to be hidden in a room when not in use. The companies presenting the TVs haven’t provided pricing information, but experts say the transparent models are likely to cost tens of thousands of dollars. Robot pet sitter Robotics developer Ogmen presented a new machine designed to assist pets. The ORo robot is equipped with a food container to feed animals. It can also play with pets, record health details and take photos and videos of animals’ daily activities. Body power to charge a phone Sports equipment developer LifeSpan introduced an exercise bicycle/desk combination that uses human power to charge phones or other devices. The Ampera bike is designed to be used with a “standing” desk table. LifeSpan says at a speed of 60 rpms, the bike can produce up to 65 watts of electricity per hour. Home-made ice cream in 2 minutes The ColdSnap company introduced a machine that can make single servings of ice cream in about two minutes. The machine uses small containers, called pods, just like Keurig coffeemakers. The pods for the ColdSnap machine can be kept at room temperature, saving energy costs. The machines can be taken anywhere and are simple to operate. 1.What can be known from the text? A.The ORo robot is a perfect pet. B.The ColdSnap specializes in soft drinks. C.The price of transparent TVs is still a secret. D.The Ampera bike can finish charging a phone hourly. 2.What do ColdSnap machines and Keurig coffeemakers have in common? A.They are quite easy to carry. B.They are environmentally-friendly. C.They are equipped with little containers. D.They are developed by the same company. 3.What’s the main purpose of the text? A.To show the wide popularity of CES. B.To advertise a global show called CES. C.To predict some next-generation technology products. D.To introduce some top technology products from CES 2024. B Kissing is one of the most intimate (亲密的) human behaviours, yet its origins remain surprisingly mysterious. But why do humans kiss? Historically, kissing has held different meanings across cultures, with the earliest recorded human kiss documented in ancient Mesopotamian texts dating back to 2500 BCE. The ancient Romans had three distinct types of kiss: the osculum, a social kiss on the cheek; the basium, a platonic kiss on the lips shared between partners or family; and the savium, a passionate kiss between lovers. Clearly, kissing has long been more than just a romantic gesture. Despite its popularity, kissing is by no means universal. A study of 168 cultures published in American Anthropologist in 2015 found that only 46 percent practised romantic lip kissing. In cultures that don’t kiss, intimacy is expressed differently. Interestingly, when on his travels, Charles Darwin, described the Malay kiss, where people squat and smell each other’s scent, suggesting that smell may play a role in human intimacy. Can biology help us understand why we kiss? Research suggests that kissing serves a biological bonding function, as it triggers the release of oxytocin, a hormone linked to trust and attachment. Oxytocin helps reduce stress and fosters feelings of closeness, strengthening connections between romantic partners. Besides, evolutionary theories suggest that lip-to-lip kissing may have its roots in early maternal (母系的) behaviours, like mothers chewed food before transferring it to their baby’s mouth. This practice, still observed among chimpanzees, may have laid the foundation for lip contact as a signal of care and bonding. However, a recent theory proposed by evolutionary psychologist Dr Adriano Lameira suggests that kissing may have instead evolved from grooming (梳理毛发) behaviours. In primates, grooming often ends with mouth contact. As humans gradually lost body hair, Lameira suggests that the function of grooming diminished, leading to shorter grooming time, eventually leaving the final lip-to-lip kiss as a lasting gesture of affection. Seemingly, kissing is a complex behaviour shaped by our ancient ancestors, fulfilling a deep human need for connection. 4.Why does the author mention ancient Romans’ kissing in paragraph 2? A.To prove kissing originated in ancient Rome. B.To illustrate kissing has various social meanings. C.To show romantic kissing is the most important type. D.To highlight kissing has been simply a romantic gesture. 5.Which of the following do evolutionary theories suggest? A.Kissing is universally practiced across cultures. B.Kissing is intended to strengthen romantic bonds. C.Kissing may have feeding and grooming origins. D.Kissing has developed from maternal behaviours. 6.What does the underlined word “diminished” in paragraph 6 mean? A.Enhanced. B.Declined. C.Disappeared. D.Expanded. 7.How is the text developed? A.Opinion→Evidence→Summary B.Question→Argument→Application C.Question→Exploration→Conclusion D.Phenomenon→Argument→Conclusion C Nowadays, digital communication tools such as texts, video calls and emails have become the main ways for people to keep in touch. Yet people hold different opinions about whether text-based communication can build close emotional bonds the same way voice communication (phone, video chat and voice chat) does. To figure out how different communication forms influence interpersonal ties, researchers conducted a series of experiments. In a field experiment, participants were asked to reconnect with an old friend either over the phone or e-mail. Other laboratory participants were invited to chat with a stranger over video, voice or text-based media. Results suggested that voice communication created stronger social ties and no increase in embarrassment, compared with text-based interactions. These findings break young people’s common misunderstanding that they can stay away from the social awkwardness by preferring a more indirect environment. A further study also proved the limitations of text-based communication. In the experiment, teenagers were divided into two groups after finishing a stressful task: One group texted their mothers for comfort, while the other made phone calls. The research found that only voice calls could bring about an obvious drop in teenagers’ stress hormones. Although text messages are not cold or meaningless, they fail to produce the same biological effect as sincere spoken words. From a biological view, hearing a familiar warm voice through voice communication can directly calm people’s nervous system and ease stress. Text-based communication only delivers written information, lacking the real-time emotional feedback. Even carefully written comforting words cannot bring the same positive physical reaction when people face pressure and anxiety. Overall, although digital text-based communication brings certain convenience, it can never replace spoken interaction in building real social connections. Instead of hiding behind typed words, we should make phone calls or voice chats with family and friends regularly to develop real and lasting emotional ties. 8.Why do young people favor text-based communication? A.To adapt to modern communication rules. B.To avoid social discomfort. C.To improve the effectiveness of exchanges. D.To strengthen social connections. 9.What can be learned from the parent-child communication study? A.Spoken words relieve pressure better. B.Speaking pace affects communication. C.Text messages lack emotional expressions. D.Stress reduces willingness to communicate. 10.What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A.Possible direction for further study. B.Scientific explanations of the findings. C.Comparisons of different stress levels. D.Introduction to a new research method. 11.What does the author suggest in the last paragraph? A.Value digital benefits. B.Type words to express feelings. C.Prioritize voice communication. D.Focus on the art of conversation. D Body Language: The Unspoken Dialogue is a fascinating book, exploring the silent language we all speak — the gestures, postures and expressions represented in over two hundred artworks from galleries worldwide. This work is designed to make human behavior comprehensible to everyday readers through artistic depictions of body language across cultures. In these artistic representations of non-verbal communication, we recognize universal human experiences that cross cultural and historical boundaries. In this “visual guide to body language”, artworks are carefully selected and arranged to highlight connections across different periods and societies. We observe scenes of people interacting in various social situations — from formal handshakes in business settings to intimate embraces between loved ones. Individuals are portrayed in numerous positions — leaning forward in interest, crossing arms in defense, or nodding in agreement. Though these artworks might have been created centuries apart, they capture moments of human interaction that remain familiar to us all. Body language in artworks often serves to reveal the inner world of the subjects — their confidence, anxiety, or social status. Before the scientific study of non-verbal communication, artists intuitively (凭直觉地) understood and captured these subtle signals in their works. In contemporary art, as our understanding of body language has deepened, artists have become more intentional in using gestures and postures as primary elements in their creations — making body language itself the subject matter of their works. Some might assume that in our digital age of video calls and virtual meetings, the study of physical body language has become less relevant. From a modern perspective, while technology has changed how we communicate, non-verbal communication remains as significant as any emoji or digital reaction. To fully understand human interaction, we must observe the physical dimension: the eye contact, the postures, and the gestures employed during conversation. And compared to our increasingly digital communications where expressions can be hidden, in-person interaction still provides the richest, most immediate understanding of unspoken feelings. 12.What is one purpose of the book Body Language: The Unspoken Dialogue? A.To argue that digital communication is less effective. B.To list the most valuable artworks in world galleries. C.To teach artists how to create better body language in their works. D.To enable ordinary readers to understand human behavior through artworks. 13.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “depictions”? A.intentions B.representations C.shortages D.conclusions 14.What can we learn about body language in artworks from different periods? A.They all show negative emotions of the subjects. B.They can’t be understood by people in modern times. C.They have completely different meanings in different times. D.They present moments of human interaction familiar to us all. 15.What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A.It is difficult to discover intentionally hidden emotions. B.Digital reaction will replace face-to-face communication. C.Body language is still of great importance even in the digital age. D.Eye contact is the first step to reveal the personal feelings. Communication begins long before you open your mouth. The way you stand, the position of your arms, and your facial expressions all tell a story that can be read immediately. By adopting the following habits, you can project confidence, openness, and charm with your nonverbal cues. 16 When you are truly engaged in a movie or a game, you lean forward. The same applies to conversation. Slightly leaning your upper body toward the speaker is a loud nonverbal cue that says, “I am interested in what you are saying.” 17 Just be mindful of personal space, because a deep lean can feel like impoliteness. Find the eye contact “sweet spot”. 18 However, there is a fine line between “engaged” and “uncomfortable”. Unbroken staring can cause a fight-or-flight response in others. To avoid this, try the 50/70 rule: maintain eye contact for 50% of the time while you are speaking and maintain eye contact for 70% of the time while you are listening. Adopt an open posture. When you cross your arms or legs, you are physically protecting your vital organs. 19 To appear more approachable, keep your chest open. Let your arms hang relaxed at your sides and angle your body toward the person you are speaking with. Subtly (巧妙地) mirror their movements. Have you ever noticed that when you are really clicking with someone, you naturally start doing the same things they are? This is called mirroring, and it creates an unconscious sense of familiarity and trust. You can intentionally use this by reflecting your conversation partner’s posture or gestures. The warning: The key word is subtle. 20 A.Lean in to listen. B.Be an active observer with a deep lean in. C.This closes the physical distance and builds connection. D.You want to mirror their energy, not copy their every move. E.Looking someone in the eye conveys confidence and engagement. F.Mirroring can make the interaction more genuine when done frequently. G.While comfortable, this primitive defensive position signals to others that you are closed off. When we learned that a young client from Northern Africa would be arriving with a hearing disability, we did what seemed natural. 根据文章Transparent televisions部分中的“The companies presenting the TVs haven’t provided pricing information, but experts say the transparent models are likely to cost tens of thousands of dollars.(展示这种电视的公司尚未提供定价信息,但专家表示,这种透明电视的价格可能高达数万美元。)” Home-made ice cream in 2 minutes部分中的“The ColdSnap company introduced a machine that can make single servings of ice cream in about two minutes. The machine uses small containers, called pods, just like Keurig coffeemakers.(ColdSnap公司推出了一款可以在大约两分钟内制作一份冰淇淋的机器。这台机器使用一种叫做pods的小容器,就像Keurig咖啡机一样。)”可知,ColdSnap机器和Keurig咖啡机都使用了被称为“pods”的小容器。故选C。 3.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“One of the world’s largest technology events, Consumer Electronics Show(CES), is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. CES presents the latest technology offerings from companies across the world. Here is a look at some of the top products presented at the show this year.(全球最大的科技盛会之一消费电子展(CES)正在内华达州拉斯维加斯举行。CES展示了来自世界各地公司的最新技术产品。以下是今年展会上展示的一些顶级产品。)”可知,文章的主要目的是介绍今年展会上展出的一些顶级产品。故选D。 B Kissing is one of the most intimate (亲密的) human behaviours, yet its origins remain surprisingly mysterious. 根据第二段“The ancient Romans had three distinct types of kiss: the osculum, a social kiss on the cheek; the basium, a platonic kiss on the lips shared between partners or family; and the savium, a passionate kiss between lovers. Clearly, kissing has long been more than just a romantic gesture. (古罗马人有三种不同类型的吻:osculum,脸颊上的社交之吻;basium,伴侣或家人之间分享的柏拉图式唇吻;以及savium,恋人之间充满激情的吻。显然,接吻早已不仅仅是一种浪漫的姿态。)”可知,作者提到古罗马人的接吻方式是为了说明接吻在不同情境下有不同的社会意义。 5.细节理解题。根据第五段“Besides, evolutionary theories suggest that lip-to-lip kissing may have its roots in early maternal (母系的) behaviours, like mothers chewed food before transferring it to their baby’s mouth. (此外,进化理论表明,唇对唇接吻可能源于早期的母性行为,比如母亲在把食物喂到婴儿嘴里之前会先咀嚼食物。)”和第六段“However, a recent theory proposed by evolutionary psychologist Dr Adriano Lameira suggests that kissing may have instead evolved from grooming (梳理毛发) behaviours. In primates, grooming often ends with mouth contact. (然而,进化心理学家阿德里亚诺·拉梅拉博士最近提出的一种理论认为,接吻可能是从梳理行为进化而来的。在灵长类动物中,梳理行为常常以嘴接触结束。)”可知,进化理论表明接吻可能有喂养和梳理毛发的起源。故选C项。 6.词句猜测题。根据第六段划线词所在句子“As humans gradually lost body hair, Lameira suggests that the function of grooming diminished, leading to shorter grooming time, eventually leaving the final lip-to-lip kiss as a lasting gesture of affection. (随着人类逐渐失去体毛,拉梅拉认为梳理毛发的功能diminished,导致梳理时间缩短,最终留下最后的唇对唇接吻作为持久的爱意表示。)”可知,随着人类逐渐失去体毛,梳理毛发的作用应该是减弱了,所以梳理时间才缩短,最终留下最后的唇对唇接吻作为持久的爱意表示,所以diminished意为“减弱”。A. Enhanced增强;B. Declined减弱;C. Disappeared消失;D. Expanded扩大。 7. 根据第一段“But why do humans kiss? (但是人类为什么要接吻呢?)”可知,文章以一个问题开头,即人类为什么要接吻;根据第二段“Historically, kissing has held different meanings across cultures (从历史上看,接吻在不同文化中有着不同的含义)”、第三段“Despite its popularity, kissing is by no means universal. (尽管接吻很受欢迎,但它绝不是普遍的。)”、第四段“Can biology help us understand why we kiss? (生物学能帮助我们理解人类为什么要接吻吗?)”、第五段“Besides, evolutionary theories suggest that lip-to-lip kissing may have its roots in early maternal (母系的) behaviours (此外,进化理论表明,唇对唇接吻可能源于早期的母性行为)”和第六段“However, a recent theory proposed by evolutionary psychologist Dr Adriano Lameira suggests that kissing may have instead evolved from grooming (梳理毛发) behaviours. (然而,进化心理学家阿德里亚诺·拉梅拉博士最近提出的一种理论认为,接吻可能是从梳理行为进化而来的。)”可知,文章接下来对这一问题进行了探索,包括文化差异、生物学解释和进化理论;再根据最后一段“Seemingly, kissing is a complex behaviour shaped by our ancient ancestors, fulfilling a deep human need for connection. (显然,接吻是一种由我们古代祖先塑造的复杂行为,满足了人类对联系的深层需求。)”可知,文章最后得出了结论,即接吻是一种复杂的行为,由我们的古代祖先塑造,满足了人类对联系的深层需求。因此,文章的结构是问题→探索→结论。 C Nowadays, digital communication tools such as texts, video calls and emails have become the main ways for people to keep in touch. 根据第二段“These findings break young people’s common misunderstanding that they can stay away from the social awkwardness by preferring a more indirect environment.(这些发现打破了年轻人普遍存在的误解,即他们可以通过选择更间接的交流方式来远离社交尴尬)”可知,年轻人喜欢文本交流是因为他们想要远离社交尴尬,避免社交带来的不适感。 9. 根据第三段“The research found that only voice calls could bring about an obvious drop in teenagers’ stress hormones.(研究发现,只有语音通话能显著降低青少年的压力荷尔蒙水平)”可知,研究表明,语音能够更好地缓解压力。 10. 根据第四段首句“From a biological view, hearing a familiar warm voice through voice communication can directly calm people’s nervous system and ease stress.(从生物学角度来看,通过语音交流听到熟悉的温暖声音能直接安抚人的神经系统并缓解压力)”可知,该段主要对研究结果给出了科学的解释。 11. 根据最后一段“Instead of hiding behind typed words, we should make phone calls or voice chats with family and friends regularly to develop real and lasting emotional ties.(与其躲在打出的文字背后,我们应定期与家人朋友通话或语音聊天,以建立真实持久的情感纽带)”可知,和打字发短信相比,作者建议人们应该优先选择语音交流。 D Body Language: The Unspoken Dialogue is a fascinating book, exploring the silent language we all speak — the gestures, postures and expressions represented in over two hundred artworks from galleries worldwide. 根据第一段“This work is designed to make human behavior comprehensible to everyday readers through artistic depictions of body language across cultures. (这部作品旨在通过对不同文化的肢体语言进行艺术描绘,让普通读者理解人类行为)”可知,这本书的创作目的是帮助普通读者借助艺术作品理解人类行为。 13.词句猜测题。根据第一段“This work is designed to make human behavior comprehensible to everyday readers through artistic depictions of body language across cultures. (这部作品旨在通过对不同文化的肢体语言进行艺术depictions,让普通读者理解人类行为)”以及后文“In these artistic representations of non-verbal communication (在这些非语言交流的艺术呈现中)”可知,前后两句句式一致、语义呼应。depictions和representations表达同一含义,均指“描绘、呈现”。 14.细节理解题。根据第二段“Though these artworks might have been created centuries apart, they capture moments of human interaction that remain familiar to us all. (尽管这些艺术品的创作时间可能相隔数百年,但它们捕捉的人类互动瞬间,依旧是我们所有人都熟悉的场景)”可知,不同时期艺术作品中的肢体语言展现了大众熟悉的人类互动瞬间。 15.主旨大意题。根据第四段“while technology has changed how we communicate, non-verbal communication remains as significant as any emoji or digital reaction. (虽然科技改变了我们的沟通方式,但非语言交流依旧和任何表情符号或数字化反馈同等重要)”可知,本段主要讲述即使在数字时代,肢体语言依然至关重要。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Communication begins long before you open your mouth. 根据后文“When you are truly engaged in a movie or a game, you lean forward. The same applies to conversation. Slightly leaning your upper body toward the speaker is a loud nonverbal cue that says, “I am interested in what you are saying.”(当你真正沉浸在一部电影或游戏中时,你会身体前倾。这同样适用于对话。微微将上半身倾向说话者是一个强烈的非语言信号,表示“我对你说的话感兴趣”。)”可知,本段主要讲述“身体前倾倾听”这一习惯。A选项“Lean in to listen.(前倾身体去倾听。)” 17.根据前文“Slightly leaning your upper body toward the speaker is a loud nonverbal cue that says, “I am interested in what you are saying.”(微微将上半身倾向说话者是一个强烈的非语言信号,表示“我对你说的话感兴趣”。)”以及后文“Just be mindful of personal space, because a deep lean can feel like impoliteness.(只是要注意个人空间,因为过度前倾可能会显得不礼貌。)” C选项“This closes the physical distance and builds connection.(这缩短了身体距离并建立了联系。)” 以及后文“However, there is a fine line between “engaged” and “uncomfortable”.(然而,“投入”和“不舒服”之间只有一线之隔。)” E选项“Looking someone in the eye conveys confidence and engagement.(看着别人的眼睛传递出自信和投入。)” 19.根据前文“When you cross your arms or legs, you are physically protecting your vital organs.(当你交叉双臂或双腿时,你是在物理上保护你的重要器官。)”以及后文“To appear more approachable, keep your chest open.(为了显得更平易近人,保持胸部敞开。)” G选项“While comfortable, this primitive defensive position signals to others that you are closed off.(虽然舒服,但这种原始的防御姿势向他人传递出你封闭自我的信号。)” 20.根据前文“The warning: The key word is subtle.(警告:关键词是“巧妙”。)” D选项“You want to mirror their energy, not copy their every move.(你要模仿的是他们的能量,而不是复制他们的每一个动作。)” When we learned that a young client from Northern Africa would be arriving with a hearing disability, we did what seemed natural. We 21 our local partners and arranged for an American Sign Language (ASL) 22 to be present upon arrival. It was a reasonable response, but it wasn’t the 23 one. And we caught ourselves before it became a 24 . ASL is the dominant sign language in the US, but it is far from the 25 one. Across the world, hundreds of distinct sign languages have developed, each 26 by culture, geography, and community. A person with a hearing disability who grew up in North Africa almost certainly did not grow up 27 in ASL. Our team contacted the client’s family to understand how this person 28 . The conversations took time, but we got a clear picture of this individual’s 29 communication needs. We began searching for a 30 interpreter fluent in that specific language. It wasn’t 31 , but after extensive outreach, we found a university professor with exactly the expertise (专长) we needed. By the time our client 32 , everything was in place.
