In class, students discuss their favourite brand of humour. A teacher introduces the concept, which helps them realise that jokes should not be cruel. One question may put a student on the spot, so classmates whisper instead of laughing aloud. They choose a safe spot to share funny stories.

平板作业
1 In the advertisement of the amusement park, the clowns in the circus were entertaining the crowd with their humorous tricks. Their curly wigs added the fun, and the children especially loved their tricks. The clowns deserved the praise as they were essential in cheering up the crowd and leaving a lasting impression. With their amusing performances, they succeeded in making everyone laugh and forget about their worries. The circus employers knew it was important to keep the clowns healthy and in a good mood so they could continue impressing the crowds. The clowns' acts were an important part of providing joy and laughter to the audience.
2 Peter, a linguist, whose witty and emotive language often makes people laugh, has won the international fame for his distinct brand of humour. Once, he met a composer in a barbershop, where the barber was giving him a shave. He asked the composer what “barbershop” was. The composer replied, “It is a place where a barber works.” But Peter said, “No. Barbershop is a style of singing where a small group of men sing without any musical instruments accompanying them.” This put the composer on the spot. “Linguists are great at complicated vocabulary,” people whispered. Their interaction made me interested, but I made no remark. I learned a new concept from an old word. I told myself off because I fell behind. I don't want to be too cruel to myself, so I have to conclude this passage.
