A
Lila and Maya were inseparable seniors at Riverside High. They’d been friends since age 8. Lila, a quiet artist, spent lunch breaks sketching (速写) in her notebook; Maya, the school running star, often joked with her, “One day, I’ll be in your famous art exhibit, right?”
One Monday, Lila’s notebook disappeared from her locker. It held years of sketches, including a deeply personal series about her mom’s battle with cancer. Maya promised to help find it, but two days later, the school gossip blog, Riverside Confessions, posted a photo of one of Lila’s sketches: a raw drawing of a weak and bony woman lying in a hospital bed, captioned, “Does Lila’s mom look horrible?”
Lila was extremely shocked and sad. It seemed everyone was whispering about her. Maya went up and tried to comfort her, but Lila couldn’t take it anymore and exploded, “You’re the only one who knew about that sketch” Maya froze, said nothing, and then fled.
That night, Maya showed up at Lila’s door, in tears. The truth spilled out: Maya had stolen the notebook “just to look”. However, all this was chanced to be seen by Jake, who ran the gossip blog. When Jake threatened to report her, Maya was extremely scared and gave the notebook to him. “I’m so sorry,” Maya said in tears. “I was stupid and jealous… I hated that you had something so meaningful, and I felt like my life was just track.”
Lila was boiling with anger. But as Maya trembled at her doorway, Lila remembered all the times Maya had stood by her — when her mom was diagnosed (被确诊); when she was bullied at school. Being cheated hurt, but so did losing a friend.
The next day, Lila marched to Jake, together with Maya. They demanded he take down the post and apologize. When Jake refused, Maya did something unexpected: she apologized over the school radio station. “I broke my best friend’s trust, and it was unforgivable,” she said, voice shaking. “Lila’s art isn’t ‘horrible’ — it’s brave. And I’m sorry I forgot what real friendship means.”
Jake was punished by the school and the blog lost followers. Lila’s art teacher, inspired by her sketches, helped her turn the cancer series into a gallery show at the local library. At the opening, Maya stood by her side, holding a sign that read, “My best friend is a talent.”
21.What do we know about Lila and Maya?
A.They shared the same locker at school. B.They planned to hold an art exhibit.
C.They were good at different things. D.They had been friends for 8 years.
22.The moment Lila’s sketch was posted on the blog, _______.
A.she regretted sketching her mom B.she believed Maya had cheated her
C.Maya supported Lila against others D.Maya made the decision to apologize
23.What can Maya learn from the experience?
A.Fear makes us prisoners; forgiveness sets us free.
B.Friendship is a two-way street; it takes give and take.
C.When a friendship hits a storm, honesty can weather it.
D.Walking with a friend in the dark is better than alone in the light.
B
I met my best friend, Ava, when we were 11 years old. I had gone to live with my grandparents and was new to the city. We immediately knew we were best friends in 6th grade and we spent every single moment together: playing dress-up games, going to school dances, doing sports, and all the normal things when you are that age.
When I was 16 years old, my family was put in bad situation. My grandfather became addicted (上瘾的) to drugs, so we lost everything: we lost our house, our car ... everything. My grandmother wanted me to be able to make the choice of where I would continue to live. She told me, “Emily, I love you. Now you can come with me or you can stay in an orphanage (孤儿院).” Before I had to make that hard decision, Ava invited me to live with her and her family. I was able to finish high school and continue my education at our local university. It was a dream that came true and the kindest thing I have ever experienced. Not only did I get to spend every day with my best friend, but I got to know what the true meaning of family was.
I have never met such loving and accepting people. I was like one of their own. I felt a sense of belonging. Her mother and father were so kind, and they taught me about life, what to do and what not to do. These are very special lessons that have influenced me to this day. They saved my life! I thank God every single day for her and her family! I am truly a very lucky person.
24.How did Emily and Ava know each other?
A.Emily’s parents lived in the same city as Ava. B.They lived in the same community.
C.Emily and Ava met in an orphanage. D.Ava went to live with her grandparents.
25.Why did Emily go to live with Ava’s family?
A.Her grandparents moved away. B.Her grandmother passed away.
C.Her grandfather had some problems. D.Her grandparents treated her badly.
26.What contributed to Emily’s higher education most besides her own effort?
A.Her parents’ support. B.Her grandparents’ devotion.
C.Encouragement from the orphanage. D.Help from Ava and her family.
27.What was Emily’s attitude to Ava and her family?
A.Critical. B.Careful. C.Uninterested. D.Thankful.
C
“I feel lonely and hopeless” said Lisa, a bright teenager from a loving home. “It seems that nobody wants to become my friend. What’s wrong with me?”
Like Lisa, many of us experience loneliness. The truth is that all people, no matter what their age or character — even the most outgoing, wealthy and popular — experience loneliness at least sometimes. It’s healthy and natural to want to be around people who care. After all, we’ve all heard “No man is an island.” That’s true. We all need others in our lives.
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, explains that if we want friends, we must be friendly and reach out to others. But it has risk. Because we are often afraid of rejection, many of us are unwilling to reach out to others. We take a safer way and wait for others to make friends with us. But if we want friends, we’ve got to get beyond this.
If making friends is your goal as well, you need to consider taking some measures.
Be willing to take the initiative (主动). If you see someone whom you would like to know, don’t wait for her to make the first move. Get close to her and begin a conversation. Let her know in a non-aggressive (无攻击性的) way that you are interested in being friends with her.
Reach out to those who are lonely. When you see someone at school sitting alone, go over and talk to her. And don’t let popularity decide whom you reach out to. You’ll often be surprised at the beautiful qualities behind a shy appearance. Ask questions. Start your first conversation by asking this possible friend what she likes to do or asking about her family. Be sure to ask questions that cannot be replied with “yes” or “no”. For example, don’t ask “Do you have a dog?” Instead. say “So, tell me about your pets.” Avoiding asking “yes” or “no” questions makes your possible friend not end your communication with a one-word answer.
28.Why does the author begin the text with Lisa’s worry?
A.To set a sad tone.
B.To share Lisa’s pain.
C.To teach readers a lesson.
D.To introduce the topic.
29.What can be a risk caused by reaching out to others according to the passage?
A.Putting ourselves in danger.
B.Being treated in a rude way.
C.Being refused by others.
D.Losing interest in communicating.
30.What can we know from Paragraph 5?
A.Popular people are often easy-going.
B.Just waiting for chances will help you make friends.
C.Shy people are hard to talk to.
D.A suitable way is important in making friends.
31.Why does the author suggest not asking “yes” or “no” questions?
A.It is considered unfriendly.
B.It isn’t good for keeping a conversation going.
C.It will leave a bad first impression.
D.It shows the poor quality of the speaker.
D
Boys need friends. They feel sad when they don’t think they have any and also worry about the changes in their friendships. Many adults may think that boys don’t need friends as much as girls do. But this is not true. Boys value their friends a lot during childhood and adolescence. They are happier and healthier when they have close relationships with people of the same age.
People often think that girls are better at handling relationships. But most boys consider their friends as a very important part of their lives. In fact, boys may be better at keeping friendships than girls. A recent study of children aged 10 to 15 found that girls’ friendships are more easily broken. Girls tend to say and do things that hurt each other more often than boys. And girls feel more hurt when a friendship ends.
Boys enjoy playing games with rules, competing, and doing things together. They like, and even need, chances to compare themselves with others. Many long-lasting friendships start in activities like karate (空手道) classes or on basketball courts. Boys respect skill and ability. Being the last one picked for a team or being left out can stay in a boy’s mind for many years.
As boys grow older, friendships become even more important. Their friend circle often expands to include girls. During their teenage years, friends can become the most important people in a boy’s life, even more important than his parents. The confusion of being a teenager makes boys form close bonds with their friends. For many boys, a friend is someone who is always there for them, someone they can trust. The friendships among young boys can be very deep.
32.According to the passage, what do many adults think about boys’ need for friends?
A.Boys don’t need friends at all. B.Boys need friends more than girls.
C.Boys need friends less than girls. D.Boys and girls need friends equally.
33.Who is more likely to have their friendships broken?
A.Boys aged 10 to 15 B.Girls aged 10 to 15
C.Boys and girls equally D.Neither boys nor girls
34.What does the author want to prove by mentioning the study in Para. 2?
A.Boys may be more active in a friendship.
B.Boys may be better at keeping friendships than girls.
C.Many people believe girls are better at relationships.
D.Most boys consider their friends very important.
35.Why do boys often form close bonds with their friends during their teenage years?
A.Because they feel confused and need support.
B.Because they enjoy playing sports together.
C.Because they want to compete with each other.
D.Because they want to learn new skills.

How to Get Along with Friends
Movies and TV shows make friendships seem effortless with little conflict, but real-life friendships require effort and can be complicated. 36
Be positive.
Focusing on the upside makes you a better friend. 37 And balance emotional chats with cheerful topics (books, games, funny stories) to improve friendships and moods. Lean on friends when in trouble — no need to be always positive.
Show sincerity.
38 Whether you’re getting to know each other or are being asked for your feedback, being honest and authentic with your friends will strengthen your bond with them. It’s a lot easier to get along with friends if you’re comfortable sharing your real thoughts and personality.
39
Our friends want to feel cared about. It’s natural to talk only about yourself when unsure what to say, but this might annoy them. Making an effort to learn about their lives shows your care and strengthens your bond. Ask open-ended questions about their lives and interests — this helps a lot!
Make time for each other.
Spending time with your friends has a huge impact, whether it’s for a few minutes or for several hours. Schedule fun activities with your friends, or just find time to talk for a while. You don’t need to have big outings; it can be something as simple as catching up while getting food in the canteen. 40
Real friendships aren’t the effortless ones on screen — they grow when you bring positivity, sincerity, curiosity, and time. Nurture these, and your bonds will stay strong through the years.
A.Talk more about personal life.
B.Show interest in your friends.
C.Or it can be sending them a link they might like.
D.Fortunately, a few tips can make all the difference.
E.Sharing your worries often helps friends feel trusted.
F.Yet constant complaints or hopeless talks tire friends.
G.Your friends don’t need you to be someone you’re not.

A Warm Friendship
Liu Li was excited to meet the new exchange student who was going to join her class. At the start of the school year, a tall, nervous-looking boy stood awkwardly at the front of Liu Li’s classroom, his hands tightly grasping his backpack. Mr Chen, their head teacher, introduced him as James, a 15-year-old boy who had just moved to China from Canada with his parents. James knew only a few simple words of Chinese, and when he tried to greet the class in broken Chinese with a thick foreign accent, many students smiled softly. Embarrassed, James’ face turned bright red and he stared down at his sneakers, too shy to lift his head.
Seeing this, Liu Li felt really bad for him. During the lunch break, she spotted James sitting all alone in the corner of the cafeteria, slowly picking at his food without any appetite (食欲). Gathering all her courage, Liu Li walked over and sat down next to him, giving him a friendly smile and saying“Hello”. James looked up in surprise, but his eyes lit up with relief to finally have someone to talk to. Using simple, basic English, Liu Li introduced herself. Though her English was not fluent and she made a few small mistakes, James smiled widely and responded eagerly. They ended up chatting happily for the entire lunch period, talking about their favorite hobbies and school subjects.
After that day, the two quickly became good friends. Liu Li helped James practice Chinese every day, and even invited him to her home to experience a warm Chinese family dinner with dumplings and braised pork. In return, James patiently helped Liu Li with her English pronunciation and shared fascinating stories about his life in Canada, from skiing in winter to exploring maple forests in autumn. As weeks passed, James grew more and more confident in class. He even volunteered to teach the whole class a lively English song, and often joked that Liu Li was his very first and best Chinese friend.

D.Thankful.

Dear Chris,
I hope this letter finds you well. Conveyed from the fact that you are puzzled about making friends, I hasten to write to you to provide some practical tips.
Friendships improve our lives, so it’s important to cultivate them. To begin with, you should often go out and actively communicate with others, which is a good way to meet like-minded people to be your friends. As the song goes, “The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.” Additionally, you should use all resources at hand to make friends, such as the book you read, the game you like to play or the common topic you have with others. Last but not least, remember to be slow to choose friends, and slower to change friends.
I hope my suggestions are helpful to you.
Yours truly,
Li Hua
One month later, the school organized a talent show. Liu Li encouraged James to participate, and they decided to perform a cross-language song together — James sang in English and Liu Li in Chinese, blending their voices perfectly. On the show day, James was a little nervous at first, but when he saw Liu Li’s encouraging smile from the side stage, he calmed down. Their performance won loud applause from the audience. After the show, many classmates came over to praise them and invited James to join their activity groups.
From that moment, James truly felt at home. He no longer felt like an outsider but a part of the class and the school. He and Liu Li still helped each other with their studies, and their friendship grew deeper day by day. Whenever James talked about his life in China, he always said proudly, “I’m lucky to meet Liu Li. She made me love this country more.” This warm friendship became a precious memory for both of them, bridging the distance between two different cultures.

It's making us lonely, it's killing our attention spans. It's bad for mental health. And there's research to back up these claims, especially regarding passive consumption, that endless, mindless scrolling through perfectly curated highlight reals of other people's lives. This comparison can indeed lead to feelings of inadequacy and envy. However, to label all social media as inherently negative is to ignore its other face. The key lies in the distinction between passive consumption and active views. Active views means messaging a friend to share a personal win, joining an online group about a hobby year, passionate about or using educational platforms to learn a new language. In these cases, social media becomes the tool for connection, support and growth. Study show that this type of use is correlated with positive feelings and stronger social bonds. So rather than demonizing the platform itself, we should be more mindful of our habits. Ask yourself, am I just watching or am I connecting? The answer might change your experience entirely. 20.What does the speaker suggest people do to improve their online experience?
A.Limit their time on all platforms.
B.Use social media for learning new skills.
C.Focus on interacting with people they know.
【答案】18.A 19.C 20.C
M: We often hear blanket statements about social media: it’s making us lonely, it’s killing our attention spans, it’s bad for mental health. And there’s research to back up these claims, especially regarding passive consumption — that endless, mindless scrolling through perfectly curated highlight reels of other people’s lives. This comparison can indeed lead to feelings of inadequacy and envy. However, to label all social media as inherently negative is to ignore its other face. The key lies in the distinction between passive consumption and active use. Active use means messaging a friend to share a personal win, joining an online group about a hobby you’re passionate about, or using educational platforms to learn a new language. In these cases, social media becomes a tool for connection, support, and growth. Studies show that this type of use is correlated with positive feelings and stronger social bonds. So, rather than demonizing the platform itself, we should be more mindful of our habits. Ask yourself: am I just watching, or am I connecting? The answer might change your experience entirely.
A
Lila and Maya were inseparable seniors at Riverside High.
根据第一段中“Lila, a quiet artist, spent lunch breaks sketching (速写) in her notebook; Maya, the school running star, often joked with her, ‘One day, I’ll be in your famous art exhibit, right?’(安静的艺术家Lila会在午休时在笔记本上速写;Maya是学校的跑步明星,经常和她开玩笑:“有一天,我会参加你著名的艺术展,对吧?”)”
根据第三段中“Lila was extremely shocked and sad. It seemed everyone was whispering about her. Maya went up and tried to comfort her, but Lila couldn’t take it anymore and exploded, ‘You’re the only one who knew about that sketch’ (Lila又震惊又难过。似乎每个人都在对她窃窃私语。Maya上前试图安慰她,但Lila再也受不了了,爆发道:“只有你知道那幅素描。”)”可知,当Lila的素描被发布在博客上时,她认为Maya欺骗了她,因为只有Maya知道那幅素描。故选B项。
23.推理判断题。通读全文,结合第四段中“‘I’m so sorry,’ Maya said in tears. ‘I was stupid and jealous… I hated that you had something so meaningful, and I felt like my life was just track.’ (“我很抱歉,”Maya流着泪说。“我又蠢又嫉妒……我讨厌你有这么有意义的东西,而我觉得我的生活只有跑步。”)”、第六段中“Maya did something unexpected: she apologized over the school radio station. ‘I broke my best friend’s trust, and it was unforgivable,’ she said, voice shaking. ‘Lila’s art isn’t ‘horrible’ — it’s brave. And I’m sorry I forgot what real friendship means.’ (Maya做了一件意想不到的事:她在学校广播电台道歉。“我辜负了我最好朋友的信任,这不可原谅,”她声音颤抖地说。“Lila的艺术并不‘可怕’——它很勇敢。我很抱歉我忘记了真正的友谊意味着什么。”)”和最后一段中“At the opening, Maya stood by her side, holding a sign that read, ‘My best friend is a talent.’(在开幕式上,Maya站在她身边,举着一个牌子,上面写着:“我最好的朋友是个天才。”)”
D.Thankful.
根据文章第一段“I met my best friend, Ava, when we were 11 years old. I had gone to live with my grandparents and was new to the city. We immediately knew we were best friends in 6th grade and we spent every single moment together: playing dress-up games, going to school dances, doing sports, and all the normal things when you are that age.(我11岁的时候遇到了我最好的朋友Ava。我去和祖父祖母住在一起,对这座城市很陌生。我们在六年级时就知道我们是最好的朋友,我们每时每刻都在一起:玩装扮游戏,去学校跳舞,做运动,以及你这个年龄段的所有正常事情)”可知,Emily搬去和祖父祖母住在一起,在那里认识了Ava,并和Ava每时每刻都在一起,所以两人认识是由于她们住在相同的社区中。故选B项。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“When I was 16 years old, my family was put in bad situation. My grandfather became addicted (上瘾的) to drugs, so we lost everything: we lost our house, our car ... everything.(当我16岁的时候,我的家庭陷入了困境。我的祖父染上了毒瘾,所以我们失去了一切:我们的房子、汽车……一切)”可知,Emily去Ava家生活是因为她的祖父出现问题,导致家庭状况恶化。故选C项。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Before I had to make that hard decision, Ava invited me to live with her and her family. I was able to finish high school and continue my education at our local university. It was a dream that came true and the kindest thing I have ever experienced.(在我不得不做出那个艰难决定之前,Ava邀请我和她及她的家人一起生活。我能够完成高中学业并在当地大学继续我的教育。这是一个梦想成真的时刻,也是我所经历过的最善良的事情)”可知,Ava邀请Emily和她及她的家人一起生活,这使得Emily能够完成高中学业并在当地大学继续教育,由此可以推断出,除了自己的努力之外,Ava和她的家人提供的帮助对于Emily能够接受高等教育起到了关键作用。故选D项。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“I have never met such loving and accepting people. I was like one of their own. I felt a sense of belonging. Her mother and father were so kind, and they taught me about life, what to do and what not to do. These are very special lessons that have influenced me to this day. They saved my life! I thank God every single day for her and her family! I am truly a very lucky person(我从未遇到过如此有爱心和包容的人。我就像他们的家人一样,感受到了归属感。她的父母非常善良,他们教会了我生活的道理,什么该做,什么不该做。这些特别的课程至今仍然影响着我。他们救了我的命!我每天感谢上帝让我遇到了她和她的家人!我真的是一个非常幸运的人)”可知,Emily对Ava及其家人非常感激,表达了Emily对Ava及其家人的深深谢意。故选D项。
根据第一段中““I feel lonely and hopeless” said Lisa, a bright teenager from a loving home. (“我感到孤独和绝望,”丽莎说,她是一个聪明的少女,来自一个充满爱的家庭。)”以及第二段“Like Lisa, many of us experience loneliness. The truth is that all people, no matter what their age or character — even the most outgoing, wealthy and popular — experience loneliness at least sometimes. It’s healthy and natural to want to be around people who care. (像丽莎一样,我们中的许多人都经历过孤独。事实是,所有的人,无论他们的年龄或性格如何——即使是最外向、最富有和最受欢迎的人——至少有时也会经历孤独。想和关心自己的人在一起是健康和自然的)”可知,文章开篇通过提及丽莎的例子,是为了引出文章的主题即每个人都经历过孤独,无论年龄或者性格。故选D项。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“But it has risk. Because we are often afraid of rejection, many of us are unwilling to reach out to others. (但它也有风险。因为我们经常害怕被拒绝,我们中的许多人都不愿意与他人接触)”可知,与他人结交的风险就是会被他人所拒绝。故选C项。
30.推理判断题。根据第五段“Be willing to take the initiative (主动). If you see someone whom you would like to know, don’t wait for her to make the first move. Get close to her and begin a conversation. Let her know in a non-aggressive (无攻击性的) way that you are interested in being friends with her. (愿意主动采取行动。如果你看到一个你想认识的人,不要等她先行动。靠近她,开始一场对话。以一种非攻击性的方式让她知道你对与她成为朋友感兴趣)”可知,本段主要讲述的是合适的交友方式很重要,即主动采取行动去认识自己想认识的人,不要被动等待,而是主动行动,以无攻击性的方式让对方知道你对与她成为朋友是感兴趣的。故选D项。
31.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Avoiding asking “yes” or “no” questions makes your possible friend not end your communication with a one-word answer. (避免问“是”或“否”的问题可以让你的潜在朋友不会以一个词的答案结束你的交流)”可知,避免提出一些“是”或“否”的问题会有助于保持对话继续进行,而不是以简短的一个词的回答结束你与对方的交流,故询问“是”或“否”的问题不利于保持谈话进行。故选B项。
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.B 35.A

And girls feel more hurt when a friendship ends.(事实上,男孩可能比女孩更善于维持友谊。

Dear Chris,
I hope this letter finds you well.
