My Favorite Invention
My favorite invention is the printing press, created by Johannes Gutenberg in the 15th century. It was the first device that made it possible to produce books quickly, accurately, and in large quantities.
The main use of the printing press was to spread information widely and affordably. Before its invention, books had to be copied by hand, which was slow and expensive. With the printing press, knowledge became accessible to many more people.
I love the printing press because it changed the world. It helped share ideas, improved education, and supported scientific progress. It allowed more people to learn how to read and write, and it helped create a more informed society. In many ways, it laid the foundation for the modern world.

When Ding Chen was a fifth-grader, he wanted to invent something for his grandparents. Because his grandparents lived in an old building without elevators (电梯), they had to climb stairs every day. It became even harder after his grandfather fell ill. “How to make them climb stairs more easily?” he thought.
Three years later, 13-year-old Ding solved this problem. He invented a booster (助力器) to help the old people walk up stairs. The booster has a motor inside. People just need to set it on the stair railing (扶手) and hold it. Then it will pull people upward.
Ding’s teacher Zhang Gang helped him make his early idea real. They worked together for about half a year to design the booster. The most difficult part was to find the motor. “The motor must work well and produce enough power.” Ding said. “Also, when it doesn’t work, it can keep still. So the whole booster won’t fall and hurt people.” After testing many motors, they found the best one.
In the future, Ding wants to improve his invention and apply for a patent (申请专利). If possible, he wants to find companies to produce it. “I hope all the people in need can benefit from (受益于) it,” he said.
24.Why did Ding Chen want to invent something for his grandparents?
A.His grandparents had difficulty going up and down stairs in a building without elevators.
B.He thought climbing stairs was a good exercise for his grandparents.
C.His grandparents asked him to try new things for climbing stairs.
25.How do people use Ding Chen’s booster?
A.They fix it on the stairs and step on it.
B.They put it on the stair railing and hold it.
C.They carry it in their bags and take it out when needed.
26.What does Ding Chen want to do for his invention in the future?
A.He wants to stop improving it and sell it right now.
B.He wants to give all his boosters to his grandparents for free.
C.He wants to improve it, apply for a patent and find companies to produce it.
27.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Ding Chen wanted to apply for a patent for his new invention.
B.Ding Chen’s teacher helped him find the best motor for the booster.
C.Ding Chen invented a booster for his grandparents and worked on improving it.
C
Mabel LeRuzic, aged 90, lives alone-but not really.
“He’s my baby,” she holds up a puppy and says. “Huh, Lucky. Say hello!” Lucky barks happily.
But Lucky is not a real dog. He is, instead, a robot that looks like a dog. He has eyes that can open and close. He turns to face you when you talk. You can even feel his heartbeats under his fur (人造毛皮). LeRuzic knows that Lucky is a robot, but ever since she got him, he has made her feel less lonely. LeRuzic enjoys watching TV with him. Every morning, she brushes his fur with a little hairbrush.
LeRuzic is not the only one who lives with a robot. In rapidly aging countries like Japan and Italy, robots have been introduced to elderly people who live alone. These robots come in many forms. Some greet you cheerfully and tell you jokes. Some can play music and have a dance party with you.
These robots have many advantages. Studies have found that they can reduce one’s loneliness. Unlike human caregivers (看护者), these robots will never forget a pill. They never get restive even if you ask repetitive (重复的) questions over and over.
But the rise of robot caregivers has also raised some questions. Many young people today are already spending too little time with their grandparents. Will the use of robot caregivers make the situation even worse? For the elderly, seeing and chatting with a grandchild is always the happiest thing, after all.
So just think about it: Will you buy your grandparents a robot? What will your grandparents think of robots?
28.What is Lucky?
A.It’s a baby. B.It’s a robot. C.It’s a real dog.
29.What will Lucky do when you talk?
A.He barks happily. B.He opens and closes his eyes. C.He turns to face you.
30.What does the underlined word “restive” mean in Chinese?
A.不耐烦的 B.不诚实的 C.不屈服的
31.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Both Japan and Italy are rapidly aging countries.
B.LeRuzic is the only one who lives with a robot.
C.The robots sometimes forget a pill.

第三节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题或翻译画线部分。
You may think that inventions are only made by experts with professional knowledge, but actually, many great creations come from everyday people who pay attention to life’s little troubles. Take the smart water bottle as a typical example. Its inventor, Lin Tao, was a college student who often forgot to drink water regularly due to busy study and extracurricular activities. This oversight affected his health, so he decided to design a solution: a water bottle that reminds people to drink through soft flashing lights and gentle beeping sounds. Simple yet practical, this invention has helped thousands of people develop healthy drinking habits, showing that innovation doesn’t require advanced skills—just a willingness to solve problems.
Creating an invention follows three basic steps. First, observe carefully to find a real problem in daily life, such as tangled earphones, messy stationery, or forgetting to take medicine. Second, brainstorm creative solutions without limiting your ideas— even seemingly silly thoughts might evolve into great inventions. For example, if you struggle with disorganized desk items, a multi-functional pencil case with separate compartments could be a good idea. Finally, turn your idea into reality by drawing sketches, collecting materials, and testing repeatedly until it works.
Even students can invent useful things. Inventing helps you improve practical skills and notice more about the world. Lin Tao’s story proves that age or background doesn’t matter— what counts is acting on your ideas. So don’t be afraid to try: your small thought about improving daily life might one day become an invention that benefits many people.
56.Who invented the smart water bottle?
57.What is the first step to creating an invention according to the passage?
58.Can students invent useful things?
59.What invention do you want to invent? Why?
60.将文中画线部分翻译成中文。

【答案】28.B 29.C 30.A 31.A

29.第三段提到“He turns to face you when you talk.”,这直接说明当你说话时,Lucky会转过身面向你。
30.第五段说明机器人看护者的优势“They never get restive even if you ask repetitive questions over and over.”,结合上下文,机器人和人类看护者不同,面对重复提问也不会变得不耐烦,因此“restive”在文中的意思是“不耐烦的”。
31.第四段提到“In rapidly aging countries like Japan and Italy, robots have been introduced to elderly people who live alone.”,这直接说明日本和意大利都是老龄化快速发展的国家。

【答案】例文
