Passage A(短视频的影响)
In recent years, short-form videos have become popular around the world. Compared with traditional long-form videos, they are more convenient.
However, some Chinese researchers have some worries. They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape our brains and influence our genes. The new study found that watching short-form videos could increase brain activity (活跃性). This may lead to various biological and nervous system problems.
For the study, the researchers picked out 111 college students between the ages of 17 and 30 who liked to use social media. Researchers collected their brain imaging data using MRI scans (磁共振扫描) to see the nerve system effects of short-form videos, especially in terms of structural changes and functional activity in the brain.
The results were astonishing. Students who spent more time on short-form videos had different brain structures and functions from others. There is an increase in gray matter in two brain regions, which help people make decisions, deal with information and control their emotions. This change makes the brain more sensitive to the quick pleasure of watching one video after another. That’s why it’s harder for these students to stop using short-form video apps.
Moreover, the researchers found nearly 500 genes that are related to brain changes from short-form video addiction. Interestingly, most of these genes show greater activity when people are teenagers. This shows that the teenage years are a weak period—people at this age may be more likely to get addicted to short-form videos.
1. What did the research mainly study?
A. Basic structure of human brains.
B. Common behaviours of the teenagers.
C. Influences of short-form videos on our brains.
D. Popularity of short-form videos among the young.
2. What does the underlined word “astonishing” mean?
A. Surprising. B. Boring. C. Common. D. Simple.
3. What does more brain sensitivity lead to?
A. Easier addiction. B. Faster learning. C. Better decisions. D. Calmer emotions.
4. Why might teenagers be more easily addicted to short-form videos?
A. Because they use mobile phones more frequently.
B. Because they have more free time to use apps.
C. Because some genes are more active at their age.
D. Because the brain development is largely complete.
5. Which of the following is most likely to be shown next?
A. Ways for doctors to treat video addiction symptoms.
B. Methods for parents to manage their own video use time.
C. Advice for teenagers to reduce short-form video addiction.
D. Tips for schools to educate all the people on video risks.
They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape our brains and influence our genes.
how short-form videos reshape our brains and influence our genes 作动词 studied 的宾语,其中 reshape our brains 和 influence our genes 是由 and 连接的两个并列谓语,共同说明短视频的作用。
原句:(第二段第二句) Researchers collected their brain imaging data using MRI scans to see the nerve system effects of short-form videos, especially in terms of structural changes and functional activity in the brain.
using MRI scans 是现在分词短语作方式状语,说明收集数据的手段;to see the nerve system effects... especially in terms of...

Passage B(AI)
What Is AI and How Does It Change Our Lives?
Artificial Intelligence, or AI for short, is not just a popular term in movies—it’s a real technology that’s changing how we live, work, and learn. Unlike traditional machines that only follow fixed rules, AI systems can “learn” from data, spot patterns, and make decisions on their own. This ability makes AI different from ordinary tools and gives it huge potential to shape our future.
AI is already around us in many ways. When you ask a smart speaker for the weather, or when a phone app suggests songs you might like, you’re using AI. In schools, some teachers use AI tools to check students’ homework quickly and even give personal feedback to help slow learners catch up. In hospitals, AI can analyze medical scans (like X-rays) to find small signs of illness that human eyes might miss, helping doctors make better treatment plans.
However, AI also brings challenges. One big worry is job changes: as AI gets better at tasks like factory work or data entry, some jobs may disappear. Another problem is privacy—AI systems need lots of data to learn, and if this data includes personal information (like our phone records or online habits), it could be misused. For example, some companies might use AI to track people’s behavior without their permission.
To deal with these challenges, countries around the world are making rules for AI use. These rules aim to keep AI safe and fair: they stop AI from being used to harm people, protect personal data, and make sure AI creates more jobs than it takes away. Many experts also believe that students today should learn about AI, not just to use it, but to understand how it works—this will help them prepare for a world where AI is everywhere.
AI is not perfect, but it’s clear that it will play a bigger role in our lives. By using it wisely and solving its problems, we can make AI a tool that helps humans, not replaces them.
1. Which example shows AI being used to help with medical work?
A. A smart speaker telling patients the time.
B. An app suggesting healthy food to eat.
C. AI analyzing X-rays to find signs of illness.
D. AI checking students’ medical homework.
2. What is one main challenge AI brings, according to the passage?
A. AI can’t learn from enough data.
B. AI may take away some people’s jobs.
C. AI makes traditional machines useless.
D. AI is too hard for people to use.
3. Why do countries make rules for AI use?
A. To stop people from using AI in daily life.
B. To make sure AI is safe and used fairly.
C. To let AI take over all human jobs.
D. To collect more personal data for AI companies.
4. What is the author’s attitude towards AI in the passage?
A. AI is perfect and will replace humans soon.
B. AI has problems, but it can be a helpful tool if used wisely.
C. AI is too dangerous and should be stopped.
D. AI is useless for daily life and work.
Unlike traditional machines that only follow fixed rules, AI systems can “learn” from data, spot patterns, and make decisions on their own.
that only follow fixed rules 是定语从句,修饰先行词 traditional machines,说明传统机器的局限性;主句中 can “learn”..., spot..., and make...
In hospitals, AI can analyze medical scans (like X-rays) to find small signs of illness that human eyes might miss, helping doctors make better treatment plans.
to find small signs of illness 是不定式短语作目的状语;that human eyes might miss 是定语从句,修饰 signs of illness;句末的 helping doctors make better treatment plans 是现在分词短语作结果状语,表示AI分析图像后带来的自然结果。

Passage 1
The internet has provided us with unmatched ways to get information but it is also sounding alarms. Some experts argue that the internet will produce forgetfulness in the minds of those learning to use it, because they won’t practise their memory.
Is the internet really doing harm to our memories—or will our doubtful experts be proven wrong? After all, the brain’s attention system (系统) and preferences for novel experiences were already there long before the digital age, and our ability to remember is nearly inexhaustible (无穷尽的). According to Michael Merzenich, a brain researcher, every brain is a work in progress; it keeps changing throughout our lives, depending on how we use it.
But our brains don’t work well when we’re not focused. When we repeatedly check text messages and social media during work, we are weakening our ability to form both short-and long-term memories, experts say. The flooding of information influences our ability to remember, too. Though our brains are designed to look for new data, too much of it may be causing this natural drive to go wild. The compulsion to continuously take in information means we often check social media when we should be doing “memory housekeeping” by giving our brains some rest. Another problem: the effortless way of receiving information online. Trying to actively recall (回忆) data is a good workout for the brain, but today we are using online search tools instead.
However, the internet may be changing only what we remember, not our ability to do so, suggests Columbia University psychologist (心理学家) Betsy Sparrow. In fact, the internet is becoming an outside hard drive for our memories. Some worry that this is having a negative effect on society, but Sparrow suggests this will change our way of learning from a focus on remembering facts to one on understanding ideas.
As is shown in a 2008 study, using the internet exercised the brain more than reading among older adults with strong computer skills. And two Harvard psychologists argue that not needing to remember facts might free our minds to focus on more meaningful tasks.
“There may be costs caused by our increased dependence on the internet, but generally the benefits are going to outweigh those costs,” says Benjamin Storm, a psychologist. “It seems pretty clear that memory is changing, but is it changing for the better? At this point, we don’t know.”
1. What does the word “compulsion” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. Longing. B. Ability. C. Chance. D. Promise.
2. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Internet users remember facts better than non-users.
B. Novel experiences improve the brain’s attention system.
C. Checking social media can give the brain proper breaks.
D. The internet may produce a change of focus in learning.
3. How does Benjamin Storm feel about the effects of the internet on memory?
A. Uneasy and doubtful. B. Positive but still uncertain.
C. Negative but still hopeful. D. Encouraged and confident.
4. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To argue for a belief. B. To challenge a solution.
C. To present different views. D. To examine causes and effects.
Passage 2
There is great excitement and argument over Artificial Intelligence (AI). The argument about whether robots will replace (取代) teachers in the classroom is very heated. Some people think it is sure to happen in the next ten years. Others think that a good teacher can not only bring help to the classroom setting, but also develop a child’s confidence.
AI is not new for us and is already being used successfully in many fields such as medicine, science and so on. So what does this mean for our future? In my opinion, AI will help kids to think more freely and creatively. Can AI possibly cut down the teaching work in the future? Of course. Our teachers are always busy preparing for their lessons. Just imagine how happy they will be if they don’t have to correct hundreds of papers, but instead, have this task or others done by machines.
However, most importantly, I do not believe AI will be able to deal with the human mental (精神的) condition totally, especially emotional intelligence (情商). What makes learning unforgettable is shared experience, human interaction (互动), and long-lasting positive relationships. For example, experienced teachers can comfort a student if he has suffered a serious loss. But no research shows that robots can deal with this well.
I also believe we need to develop our kids’ personality and their ability to make the right decision. To achieve this, depending only on AI is impossible.
In short, AI has both its advantages and disadvantages. To what degree (程度) can teachers use AI in their classes? You can have all the information you want with the help of AI, but great teachers will also need to depend on their own feelings.
1. The writer starts the passage by ________.
A. telling a story B. comparing different opinions
C. listing a number D. giving some suggestions
2. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The successful usage of AI in many fields.
B. AI helps teachers to correct hundreds of papers.
C. How helpful AI will be to both students and teachers.
D. Teachers can help kids think more freely and creatively than AI.
3. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “comfort” in Paragraph 3?
A. give up B. turn up C. take up D. cheer up
4. What’s the structure of the passage? (P— Paragraph)
A. B. C. D.
5. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Will AI Replace Teachers in the Classroom?
B. What can AI Bring Students in the Classroom?
C. Is AI a Good Way to Help with Children’s Learning?
D. How do Teachers Use AI in Their Classroom Teaching?

Passage 2
(2025-2026·广东广州期末考)From April to May 2025, Professor Michael Robb helped lead the survey by Common Sense Media. More than 1,000 teens took part in the survey. Thirty-one percent said talking with AI was “as cheerful as or more cheerful” than talking with real people. Half of the teens said they didn’t trust AI advice. One-third said they talked about serious problems with AI instead of real people.
Professor Robb said these findings worry parents and teachers. “If teens develop social skills with AI, they receive approval all the time and face no challenges. They never learn to read social cues (信号) or understand other opinions. This may make them unprepared for the real world,” he said.
Common Sense Media looked at several popular AI apps. They found that the apps may give dangerous advice and suggest harmful ideas. The group suggests that teens not use AI apps.
Eva Telzer, another professor has found in her research that many teens said they used AI to write emails or messages in difficult situations. “They no longer have trust in themselves to make a decision,” said Telzer. “They need AI to tell them if an idea is good or not.”
Seventeen-year-old Bruce Perry said he had some similar experiences. “If you tell me to plan an article, I would think of going to ChatGPT before getting out a pencil,” Bruce said. He uses AI every day. He asks AI for advice in social situations, deciding what to wear and writing emails to teachers. He says AI expresses his thoughts faster than he can. However, he’s glad that AI apps were not around when he was younger. “I can imagine a kid. He grows up with AI and seldom goes to the park or tries to make a friend,” he said.
While AI makes our lives easier, it may also cause troubles: relying too much on the virtual world can weaken our real-life relationships, and even make us confused about who we are. Using technology wisely, keeping in touch with others and knowing ourselves well, so that we can avoid getting lost.
1. What is probably the purpose of the survey by Common Sense Media?
A. To know how teens use AI for their study.
B. To learn about why teens use AI and their opinions.
C. To raise teens awareness of using AI in their daily life.
D. To suggest teens use AI to improve communication skills.
2. What does the word “approval” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Questions. B. Warnings. C. Mistakes. D. Acceptance.
3. How does the writer show the problems of teens’ development with AI?
A. By using the professors’ words.
B. By showing the data of a survey.
C. By comparing different teens’ choices.
D. By raising questions of teens’ experience.
4. What is NOT mentioned as a problem of teens’ using AI in the passage?
A. They may lose the ability to make decisions.
B. They may fail to understand people’s opinions.
C. They may receive dangerous advice or harmful ideas.
D. They may find AI worse than humans at writing articles.

1. C 2. A 3. A 4. C 5. C

D. AI is useless for daily life and work.

that only follow fixed rules 是定语从句,修饰先行词 traditional machines,说明传统机器的局限性;主句中 can “learn”..., spot..., and make...

A 2. D 3. B 4. C
1. 根据第三段上下文“The compulsion to continuously take in information means we often check social media...” 结合选项,A项Longing(渴望、强烈愿望)最符合这种难以控制的冲动之意。
2. 根据第四段中Betsy Sparrow的观点“...this will change our way of learning from a focus on remembering facts to one on understanding ideas.”
3. 根据最后一段Benjamin Storm的话“generally the benefits are going to outweigh those costs”(总体上利大于弊,态度积极)以及“At this point, we don't know.”(目前我们还不知道,表示不确定),可以看出他的态度是积极但仍存不确定性的。
B 2. C 3. D 4. C 5. A
