请认真阅读下列材料,从材料后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Researchers recently studied 3,000 middle and high school students. Among them were 618 teenagers with one parent who lived away from home for long periods of time because of work. The researchers wanted to know how the work of these “fly-in, fly-out” parents might influence the health of their children.
A higher percentage of teenagers who experienced the long absence of a parent had emotional(情感的)or behavioral problems compared with those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research finding high percentages of emotional problems in teenagers who often returned to an empty house after school or whose parents were seldom at dinner.
Findings also suggest that parents don’t have to be home all the time to be present in their children’s lives, but it helps to be home at certain times. And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted plant.
Many parents of teenagers have known this to be true and find ways to be present without trying to start a conversation. One friend of mine quietly does housework each evening in the sitting room where her teenagers watch TV. They enjoy one another’s company without the need to talk. Another friend usually accepts his daughter’s invitation to work or read nearby while she sits and does her homework. Perhaps, that, at least for some families, is the best way for teenagers and their parents to stay close.
In fact, many years of research suggests that children use their parents as a safe base from which to explore the world. Studies tell us that young children quietly follow their parents’ movements from room to room, even while carrying on with their own activities. Perhaps our teens, like babies, feel most at ease when their parents are still around. They don’t want to stay away from parents who allow them freedom. A new school year is at hand, so as parents we could offer our teenagers a “potted plant” as a gift, whose quiet and steady(稳定的)presence will give them a great day.
1. What’s the purpose of the recent research?
A. To show the necessity of parents’ company all the time.
B. To support earlier research on teenagers’ emotional problems.
C. To find connections between parents’ long absence and children’s health.
D. To compare “fly-in, fly-out” parents with those working traditional hours.
2. Which of the following parental behaviors does the writer agree with most?
A. Talking with their kids a lot. B. Staying home to watch over them all day.
C. Buying them things to make them happy. D. Being there quietly and steadily at important times.
3. What is the best title of this passage?
A. The Problems of “Fly-in, Fly-out” Parents
B. A Potted Plant: The Best Gift for a Teenager
C. New Research on Teenagers’ Behavioral Problems
D. Be a Potted Plant: Quiet Presence as Parental Support

A recent survey conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health asked 2,000 teenagers aged 13-17 about their biggest concerns and challenges during adolescence. The results showed that academic pressure, body image issues, and social relationships were the top three worries for most teenagers.
Nearly 75% of the respondents said that getting good grades and getting into a good college was their biggest concern. Many teenagers reported feeling stressed about homework, exams, and the expectations of their parents and teachers. Some even said that they had trouble sleeping or eating because of the pressure.
Body image issues were the second most common concern, with 62% of teenagers saying that they felt insecure about their appearance. Girls were more likely to report feeling unhappy with their bodies than boys, but boys also struggled with body image issues, especially related to their height and muscle mass.
Social relationships were the third biggest worry for teenagers. Many said that they felt pressure to fit in with their peers and be popular. Some reported feeling lonely or isolated, while others had problems with bullying or conflicts with friends.
Other concerns mentioned in the survey included mental health issues, family problems, and uncertainty about the future. The survey also found that many teenagers were reluctant to talk about their feelings with adults, and that only about 30% had sought help from a counselor or therapist.
The researchers who conducted the survey said that the results highlight the need for better support systems for teenagers. They recommended that schools and parents should provide more resources and education about mental health, and that teenagers should be encouraged to talk about their feelings and seek help when they need it.
4. What was the biggest concern for most teenagers according to the survey?
A. Academic pressure B. Body image issues
C. Social relationships D. Mental health issues
5. What percentage of teenagers felt insecure about their appearance?

7. What did the researchers recommend?
A. Teenagers should not worry about their grades.
B. Parents should not have any expectations for their children.
C. Teenagers should solve their problems on their own.
D. Schools and parents should provide more mental health support.

Teenagers often find pimples(痘痘)on their faces. These pimples bring great trouble to teenagers. Why are teenagers likely to have pimples?
One of the main reasons is the change in their hormone(荷尔蒙)levels. A study in 2024 showed that the change in hormone levels makes sebaceous glands(皮脂腺)produce too much oil. Some bacteria(细菌)use the oil to multiply, causing skin problems. Then pimples appear.
Bad habits are also a cause of pimples. One of these habits is staying up late. It can affect skin metabolism(新陈代谢). What’s more, eating too much high-sugar and high-fat food is another bad habit. If a boy often eats high-fat food, he’ll have a 40% higher risk of pimples than those who eat healthily.
Pimples bring a lot of problems to teenagers’ minds and social life. They may feel less confident. In class, some of them can’t listen to the teachers carefully. These teenagers might be shy and ___▲___ to talk in public.
Here is some advice for teenagers with pimple problems.
First, take care of your skin. Use cleaners in the morning and at night. Next, sleep 7 to 8 hours every night. Eat more fruit, vegetables and grains. Eat less junk food to control oil. Finally, don’t worry too much. Pimples are normal for teenagers. Be happy and do some sports like running, rope skipping and so on. You can surely “live in peace” with pimples.
* The word “multiply” means “to increase very much in number”.
8. Who can get help most from the passage?
A. Students who have much stress on exams. B. Adults who have unhealthy eating habits.
C. People who have trouble with pimples. D. Teenagers who have trouble losing weight.
9. Which of the following is NOT good for a teenager to reduce the pimple risk?
A. Playing basketball twice a week. B. Eating high-fat food every day.
C. Eating more apples and carrots. D. Sleeping for 7 to 8 hours a night.
10. Which word can be put in “___▲___”?
A. afraid B. brave C. happy D. lucky
11. The passage is written to ________.
A. encourage teenagers to be confident B. introduce some good skin cleaners
C. help teenagers know more about pimples D. introduce some important studies on pimples
D
Parents are important in shaping their children’s lives. They make decisions and plans for their children. However, in my opinion, teenagers over the age of 15 should be allowed to make their own decisions.
Teenagers over 15 have the ability to make independent decisions. With the rapid development of technology, today’s teenagers have a better understanding of the world. Compared with their parents, they’re knowledgeable at an early age. So they may make wiser decisions.
Making decisions helps teenagers feel confident. When teenagers are allowed to make decisions, they feel more confident in their ability to handle problems. This can help them develop a stronger feeling of control over their lives.
By making decisions, teenagers learn not to depend on others. If parents make decisions for their children all the time, they’ll never learn to be responsible for themselves. They’ll just depend on their parents for every choice in their lives.
When teenagers are allowed to make decisions, they may make mistakes. But it doesn’t matter. That’s because they can learn from their mistakes and will do better next time. During the process, teenagers can develop problem-solving abilities.
Allowing teenagers to make decisions can improve relationships between children and parents. By giving children respect, parents can show that they trust their children to make good choices. With trust and respect, children will have more communication with their parents.
All in all, teenagers over 15 should be given the chance to make decisions.
12. Why does the writer think today’s teenagers may make wiser decisions?
A. They study harder. B. Their teachers help them.
C. Their parents give better advice. D. They are knowledgeable at an early age.
13. What does the underlined word “handle” mean?
A. Deal with. B. Call in. C. Start with. D. Connect with.
14. Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A. Teenagers should depend on their parents.
B. Parents should trust and respect their children.
C. Family relationships are easy to be improved.
D. Parents should make plans for their children.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. How Teenagers Solve Life Problems B. Why Parents Should Help Teenagers
C. How Parents Shape Teenagers’ Lives D. Why Teenagers Should Make Decisions

阅读下面的短文,从下列7个选项中选择5个恰当的句子完成此短文。
For many teenagers, it’s hard to run away from the pressure to be perfect. They push themselves to get straight A’s, star on the sports field, present a perfect social media look, and even be the “best” friend or family member. ___16___ What they don’t always realize, however, is the bad effects this habit has on their mental health.
Perfectionism is not the same as going for excellence. ___17___ Going for excellence means enjoying the process of growing and accepting small failures as part of learning. Perfectionism, on the other hand, is controlled by fear and self-doubt. It is an all-or-nothing mindset(心态)that tells them “If I am not the best, I am a loser.” ___18___
One of the most harmful results of perfectionism is putting things off. The fear of not being perfect often stops teenagers from starting a task at all. They would rather avoid trying than face possible imperfection, creating a harmful cycle of avoidance. Thoughts like “If I can’t write the perfect paper, I won’t even start” become common, causing late work and increasing pressure.
___19___ It slowly breaks their ability to overcome difficulties. When every small mistake is seen as a shame, it is difficult to build healthy self-confidence. A low grade or simple bad words can make them doubt their own value for a long time.
The good news is that teenagers can get out of the perfectionism trouble. Start by treating mistakes as necessary learning steps. ___20___ Instead of being hard on yourself for not being good enough, praise yourself for trying your best. Over time, you will feel lighter and more confident.
A. Everyone needs to learn from successful people.
B. Learn to accept “good” instead of always requiring “perfect”.
C. The key difference is how people look at progress and mistakes.
D. So why do parents push teenagers so hard in study and daily life?
E. Perfectionism can also hurt their confidence when facing problems.
F. They are taught that perfect performances make them popular and respected.
G. This fixed way of thinking easily leads to high levels of stress and nervousness.

As a teenager, you may think being a teenager is hard. You feel old enough to make up your own mind, but your parents don’t think so. They always think that they know what’s best for you. If you have different opinions from your parents, what should you do? Should you listen to your parents or stick to your ideas? Here is a hot discussion.
Side A
Side B
Parents have more life experience and can offer valuable advice according to what they’ve learned.
Parents often have a better understanding of risks and dangers. By listening to them, teenagers can avoid some unnecessary mistakes and harm.
Listening to parents shows respect(尊重)and can make the parent-child relationship strong.
Teenagers should develop the decision-making ability. It is helpful for their future growth and development.
Standing up for their own views allows teenagers to better understand their own values, talents and abilities. These all help them to form a self-identification(自我认同).
Teenagers need to have chances to make mistakes. From these mistakes, they can learn a lot and grow better.
Zhang Xin is a Grade-9 student from Shanxi. She took part in the discussion and shared her experiences.
I wanted to be a dancer. But my parents didn’t support my dream. “We want you to be a doctor,” they always told me. I could understand that they are doing this for my own good, but I wanted to stick to chasing my dream. I had a talk with them about my ideas one evening, and they said that they would respect my choice, and give me some helpful advice in the end.
In many cases, neither listening completely to parents nor just sticking to one’s own opinions is the best solution. Instead, communication and understanding are key to finding the best solution. Teenagers can learn to be independent while having a healthy relationship with parents.

三、阅读理解(共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分)

【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. D

14. 细节理解题。根据第六段“By giving children respect, parents can show that they trust their children to make good choices.”

18. 根据前文“It is an all-or-nothing mindset(心态)that tells them “If I am not the best, I am a loser.”可知,这种非黑即白的心态会带来负面影响,G选项“This fixed way of thinking easily leads to high levels of stress and nervousness.”承接前文,说明这种思维方式会导致巨大的压力和紧张感,与上下文逻辑连贯,故选G。
19. 根据后文“It slowly breaks their ability to overcome difficulties. When every small mistake is seen as a shame, it is difficult to build healthy self-confidence.”可知,这一段讲述了完美主义对自信心的影响,E选项“Perfectionism can also hurt their confidence when facing problems.”作为段落的主题句,概括了后文的核心内容,引出下文对自信心影响的具体说明,故选E。
