Every year, many species of birds and fish die out forever, and some rare animals like the Tibetan antelope and the Yangtze River dolphin are becoming extinct. Illegal hunting is one of the main reasons: some people hunt sharks only to cut off their fins for money, while others kill whales for their fur and skin. These acts bring huge profit to a few bad men, but they bring great harm to all living things on earth. We should not endanger any species, and we should help the endangered ones first of all. Many governments are now working hard to protect wildlife. They pass new laws to stop the hunter from catching animals, and they build large reserves where animals can live safely. On the wide plain, people can observe a whole herd of antelopes with binoculars, and a bird field guide helps them know each bird. Volunteers watch over the animals day and night and try to reduce the pressure on their habitat. A special authority makes sure that every measure is effective and that the staff are not under pressure to give up. Many people do not know how serious the problem is, so we should make them aware of the danger. We can put up a poster at school and tell everyone to stop buying goods made from animals. If we make progress step by step, the number of wild creatures will slowly recover. We should also be concerned about the future of the deer and the kangaroo, and try to adapt our own behaviour to protect their homes. It is important to remind ourselves that every animal has its own beauty and value, and we should stay aware of the danger and be concerned about the future of wildlife. We must find effective ways to stop the threat that threatens wild animals, and deal with every problem in harmony with nature. We should not intend to hurt any creature, and we must be careful with things like insects and small animals that live in our neighbourhood. Even a small net can be dangerous to a fish, and a sudden noise may stir up fear in an animal's heart. We should keep an alarm and watch the rate of population change, because a falling rating may mean that a species is in danger. If we see someone shoot an animal, we should call for help immediately. It is not unusual to see a dog search for its friend, and we should treat every emotion with care. The loss of habitat is due to human activity, due to our careless use of land. We must stop the mass killing of wildlife, and remember that animals have the right to exist. It is a sacred duty to protect life, and we should never treat animals illegally. In the early morning we can make out the shape of the mountain, and we should stir up public attention to wildlife. A healthy environment keeps the animals living well, and an unexpected attack by bad weather can change everything. On average, one species disappears every hour, and the average person can make a difference, so let us act now. 志愿者日夜(day and night)守护(watch over)动物,努力减轻它们栖息地(habitat)的压力(pressure)。 物种 → __________ 2. 灭绝的 → __________ 3. 非法的 → __________ 4. 栖息地 → __________ 5. 保护区 → __________ 6. 观察 → __________ 7. 威胁 → __________ 8. 恢复 → __________ 9. 适应 → __________ 10. Every year, many species of birds, fish and small creatures disappear from the earth, and some of them will never come back. Scientists say that the number of wild animals is falling at an alarming rate, and they are deeply worried about the future of our planet. If we do not act soon, more and more animals will become extinct, and our children may never see them in the wild again. Why are so many animals in danger? The first reason is the loss of their habitat. As cities grow and farms spread, forests and grasslands become smaller, and animals lose the places where they can find food and build their homes. The second reason is illegal hunting. Some people hunt elephants for their tusks, kill sharks for their fins, and catch rare birds to sell for profit. These actions are against the law in most countries, yet some hunters still do them in secret, and the guards who watch over the reserves cannot be everywhere at once. Happily, many people are now trying to protect wildlife. Governments have built large reserves where animals can live in safety, and special authorities make sure that every measure is truly effective. Volunteers stay in the reserves day and night to look after the young animals and search for any sign of danger. Schools also play an important part: teachers put up posters and tell students to be aware of the danger that wild animals are facing. When young people understand the problem, they are more likely to protect nature when they grow up. There are many small things we can do in our daily life to help. We should not buy goods made from the skin or fur of wild animals, and we should throw away our rubbish carefully so that it does not harm the creatures around us. We can also join a local group that plants trees or cleans rivers, because a clean environment gives animals a better chance to survive. On average, one species disappears every hour, but every small effort can make a real difference. If each of us reduces the pressure on nature and learns to live in harmony with animals, the world will become a warmer and kinder place for all living things. In the end, protecting wildlife is not just the job of the government or the scientists; it is the duty of every person on earth. We should remind ourselves again and again that animals have the same right to exist as we do. The beauty of a flying bird, the cry of a whale and the quiet steps of a deer all tell us that life is precious. Let us keep our eyes open, take real action and never give up, so that our children and grandchildren can still enjoy the wonderful world of wildlife in the future. 1. 1.
