That means a heavy build-up of plastics around the world. Millions of tons of plastics enter the ocean every year, polluting the seas, messing the beaches and endangering the wildlife. Plastic particles (颗粒) have been found in soil, in the air and even in the most faraway areas of the earth. Plastics are eaten by fish and other sea animals, and then they enter the food chain. A rapid growth in plastic production has made the problem worse. And many countries fail to safely deal with or recycle plastic waste. Researchers found that there are no shortcuts (捷径) to cutting down on plastic pollution. Instead, change is needed across the whole supply chain, from the production of plastics to after use (recycling and reusing), to stop the spread of plastic pollution. “There are billions of people without collection services right now. You can't recycle or deal with something you haven't collected,” said Dr Winnie Lau, a co-author of the research. In many developing countries such as India, waste pickers (拾荒者) make a living by collecting plastics and actually their work is a key part of being able to solve the problem. However, most people just ignore their great influence. Often these workers have no legal recognition (认可) and no protection. By stressing how important they are to this field, the researchers said it will hopefully bring them into the part of the economy where their contribution is recognized. 1.Which of the following is true according to the new research? A.The year 2040 will see the most plastics. B.Plastic production has been greatly reduced at present. C.Plastic pollution will still be a serious problem in the future. 2.Paragraph 2 mainly talks about ________. A.the way plastics get into the food chain B.the reuse of plastic waste C.the seriousness of plastic pollution 3.We can infer from what Dr Winnie Lau said that ________. A.waste collecting is very important B.Indian waste pickers need help C.it's not difficult to collect plastics 4.What does the underlined word “ignore” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Take pride in. B.Pay no attention to. C.Make a difference to. 根据第一段“New research shows that there will still be about 710 million tons of plastics by 2040 even if the whole world takes action now.” 根据第三段“You can’t recycle or deal with something you haven’t collected”可知,收集塑料是回收和处理的前提,说明垃圾收集非常重要。故选A。 4. 根据第四段“However, most people just ignore their great influence. Often these workers have no legal recognition (认可) and no protection.” B。 (B) What’s the biggest spider in the world? The tarantula (狼蛛)! The biggest kind can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) long. Where tarantulas live 1 Many live in forests, and others live in deserts. Some tarantulas live in holes in the ground. Others live in trees. Knowing about its body A tarantula has a lot of hairs. The hairs help it feel things that move. 2 A tarantula has a hard covering (覆盖物) on its body. As it grows, the covering gets too small for it and falls down from its body. Its new covering will get hard soon. 3 Tarantulas come out to look for food at night. They eat frogs, mice, small snakes and so on. They also eat spiders— even other tarantulas. When an animal comes near, the tarantula jumps and makes the animal stop moving. 4 It cuts up the animal into pieces with its little arms and enjoys a delicious meal. How safe tarantulas are Many people are afraid of tarantulas because they are so big. 5 People are a bigger danger to tarantulas than any other animal. We should protect them. These amazing tarantulas are important to nature. A.Learning about eating habits B.Then it pulls the animal back home. C.The hairs near its mouth also help it taste and smell. D.But they won’t hurt you if you leave them alone. The hairs help it feel things that move.” 7.根据“Tarantulas come out to look for food at night. They eat frogs, mice...” 故选A。 8.根据“When an animal comes near, the tarantula jumps and makes the animal stop moving.”及“It cuts up the animal into pieces...” 9.根据“How safe tarantulas are”和“Many people are afraid of tarantulas because they are so big.”和“People are a bigger danger to tarantulas...” $Unit 4 Amazing Plants and Animals 课时5 Section B Vocabulary in use 分层作业 A组 巩固过关 C组 思维拔高 B组 能力进阶 ( 词汇 ______ n. 高度 ______ n. 重量 ______ n. 行动 ______ n. 习惯 ___ n. 快乐 ______ adj. 聪明的 ______ v. 储存 ______ v. 似乎 ______ n. 现实 ______ v. 称重 _________ n. 善良 _________ n. 受欢迎 ______ v. 出现 ______ n.
