From the moment we are born, our brains are filled with a lot of information. So, how do we hold on to everything we’ve learned?
Hermann Ebbinghaus ran a study and found something interesting in 1885. He summarized his findings in a theory known as the “forgetting curve(曲线)”. The

curve shows how information is lost over time if people do nothing to remember it. The stronger the memory is, the longer a person is able to remember it. People may forget newly learned things in days or weeks if they don’t review them.
Short-term memories last seconds to hours, while long-term memories last for years. Students can turn a short-term memory into a long-term memory by ▲ . The more times they review it, the longer they’ll keep it in their brains.
First, use “spaced learning”. By reviewing new information at key moments on the curve, you can reduce the rate(比率) at which you forget it!

Second, practise “overlearning”—that is, putting in more than the usual amount of effort when you learn something.
Third, make information meaningful. Try to make what you need to learn clear and purposeful, and find a strong reason for remembering it.
Lastly, keep challenging your memory. If you come to review some information and discover gaps(空白) in your memory, don’t give up!
