I want to share with you how I prepared for my travels. When I turned thirty, I decided to take a year off to travel around the world. First, I had to save up money. I had some savings, but they weren't enough, so I spent the next six months spending less and making more money. I rented out my house and moved into a small flat. I kept my regular job and also took on part time work. At the same time, I mapped out my trip. I didn't want to visit only the most well known spots. I planned to experience the cultures of different countries. While doing my research, I discovered many online communities around the world. People were sharing their experiences, doing exactly what I was planning to do. I got in touch with them, and they provided valuable resources to help me plan the trip. I'll share the websites of these online communities later for you to check out in my next show. I'll talk about some of my experiences on the trip. Welcome to my show today. You may not know his face, but you surely know his voice. That calm, gentle, wonderfully warm voice tells you stories about lions, whales, and tiny little frogs. That’s Sir David Attenborough. He is the legendary voice behind countless nature documentaries.
Born in London on May 8, 1926, young David studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge. In 1952, he walked through the doors of the BBC. And here’s the funny thing. He never planned to appear on camera. His whole television career started almost by coincidence. The presenter of a new show called Zoo Quest fell ill at the very last minute, so Attenborough stepped in. That was 1954. And the rest is history.
Later, he became the controller of BBC Two. And guess what he did? He made BBC Two the first British channel to broadcast in color. A pretty big deal back then. But oddly enough, he didn’t enjoy sitting behind a desk. He missed the wild, the real world with mud and rain and animals that bite. He had power, but it meant little to him without adventure. So in 1973, he left his high-ranking job to return to making nature films. Why? Because, as he later put it, he still hadn’t seen the Galapagos Islands.
His masterpiece, Life on Earth, came out in 1979. Fifteen episodes, filmed in 40 different countries. In one unforgettable scene, he sat among a group of young gorillas in Rwanda. No script, no fear, just a man and a few curious apes. It still brings a tear to the eye.
Today, David Attenborough is over 100 years old. He has collected Emmy Awards, a knighthood (骑士爵位), and the hearts of millions. But more than that, he has given us something far more valuable: a warning. Our beautiful, fragile planet is in trouble. And thanks to him, more and more of us are finally listening.
4. Why does the author begin with “You may not know his face”?
A. To hide who the story is about. B. To compare his face and voice.
C. To demonstrate he is not famous. D. To stress what truly defines him.
5. What best describes the beginning of Attenborough’s TV career?
A. A long-term goal. B. A planned rise.
C. An accidental path. D. A fame pursuit.
6. What led Attenborough to give up his high-ranking job?
A. He longed for a richer life. B. He valued exploration over power.
C. He intended to get relaxed. D. He preferred teamwork to leadership.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Voice of Our Planet B. How to Become a TV Controller
C. From Office to Ocean D. The Man Who Hated Sitting Still
C
Along the Caribbean coast of Mexico, popular beach destinations such as Cancún and Tulum have been struggling with a serious ecological issue. Thick layers of sargassum (马尾藻) seaweed regularly wash ashore, blanketing sandy shores in vast brown piles and giving off an unpleasant smell, which has troubled not only local fishermen but also hotels and tourists, whose activities depend heavily on clean beaches.
Scientists hold the view that shifts in ocean currents and rising sea temperatures have contributed to the fast expansion of sargassum seaweed in the region. Once carried onto the shore, the seaweed begins to decay (腐烂), releasing gases that can affect both the environment and human health. As a result, local workers must clear the beaches almost every day, a task that is both time-consuming and costly.
Nevertheless, rather than regarding the invasive seaweed merely as useless waste materials, Mexico has begun to actively seek effective approaches to change it into practical and beneficial products. In recent years, several research groups and companies have worked together to pioneer innovative technical solutions, aiming to turn abundant sargassum resources into raw construction materials, biofuels as well as other kinds of sustainable supplies.
One example is a Mexican startup that produces eco-friendly bricks made partly from dried sargassum. These bricks are strong and can help reduce the amount of waste on the beaches. At the same time, some scientists are studying how the seaweed can be used to create biofuels, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional energy sources.
Local governments have also joined in these efforts by supporting projects that collect and process the seaweed. By doing so, they aim to reduce pollution while creating new economic opportunities for coastal communities.
For many residents, the situation remains challenging. Yet there is another voice. “We’ve been dealing with this problem for years, and it’s never been easy,” says Carlos Méndez, a local hotel worker in Cancún. “But it is possible that we can turn it into something of practical value, proving all this trouble isn’t for nothing.”
8. Why is sargassum seaweed a problem along the coast?
A. It drives away sea animals.
B. It changes the color of seawater.
C. It increases ocean temperatures.
D. It harms the beauty of coastal areas.
9. What do scientists think has led to the spread of sargassum seaweed?
A. Changes in ocean conditions.
B. The activities of the locals.
C. Shortage of labor to process seaweed.
D. The fast growth of the tourism industry.
10. What do Mexicans do with sargassum seaweed?
A. Call on visitors to remove it. B. Use it to build fishing boats.
C. Transform it into clean fuel. D. Bury it to protect the coastline.
11. What does Carlos think of the solution adopted by Mexico?
A. Thorough. B. Promising.
C. Technology-demanding. D. Time-consuming.
D
A newly published report claims “AI-generated poetry is indistinguishable from human-written poetry and is rated more favorably”, which has drawn massive attention to this criticized yet beloved art form. The Washington Post definitively declared that “ChatGPT is a poet”. Others more closely echoed the age-old claims that poetry is dead, or as one publication offered, “Yield, Shakespeare.”
Reports like these are important to investigate as they have practical and potentially serious consequences. They can strengthen what some argue is the art form’s nugacity, which in turn helps fuel arguments that discredit the importance of teaching poetry and supporting passionate poets, as well as nonprofit poetry organizations and publishers dedicated to their work.
The authors of the new report, scientists Brian Porter and Edouard Machery, entered their experiments with the premise (前提) that a poem is something to be solved and poetry, a competition to win.
In the first of the scientists’ two experiments, they directed ChatGPT to produce texts that imitated poems by 10 poets. Participants were assigned a poem and asked to determine the origin of the work: poet or bot. The scientists reveal that the study participants “are non-expert readers of poetry” and “found the task very difficult, and were at least in part answering randomly”.
Their second experiment asked a different, smaller group of participants to review poems authored by poets and ChatGPT texts imitating poems and then assess them based on some characteristics. Participants rated the bot’s texts higher. However, it should be noted that, among the characteristics, only rhyme is a specific and distinct formal element, making it easily recognizable. Rhyme, therefore, as in the previous experiment, could have influenced results favorably in the direction of ChatGPT.
Porter and Machery propose that their participants’ apparent preference for algorithmically-generated texts is because they were “generally more accessible” to those who may not have the time or interest for the in-depth analysis demanded by the poetry of human poets. This reveals a questionable assumption about poetry. It’s true that reading poems takes time. In fact, one of the art form’s benefits is that it slows readers down and invites them to another place for a few moments. But it’s not true that poems sweepingly “demand” “in-depth analysis”.
The scientists’ second experiment also confirmed that participants judged texts more negatively when it was revealed they were actually produced by ChatGPT. They draw the conclusion that this means there is "a mismatch between readers’ expectations and reality". This could instead be something more fundamental: a confirmation of a desire to be led by a human guide, to be able to imagine the hand, to take comfort in another being, to know soul.
12. What is probably the author’s attitude towards the reports mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. Tolerant. B. Humble.
C. Pessimistic. D. Critical.
13. What does the underlined word “nugacity” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Unreliability. B. Insignificance.
C. Contradictoriness. D. Backwardness.
14. As for the experiments, the author thinks that _________.
A. participants’ desire for easy reading affected the result
B. experimenters' capability to judge poems was shown
C. the assessment features weakened the credibility
D. deep analysis of poems should serve as the basis
15. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Power of AI’s Words: Can Humans Grasp?
B. Human Poetry: The Last Art in the Age of AI?
C. AI-generated Poetry: A New Renaissance?
D. Voices of the Heart: Can AI Bridge?

Why we forget?
Remembering things is an important function of our brain — if we can’t recall how to do something, we can’t survive. If you think about it, there is so much we have to remember — from where we leave our car keys to how we walk. ___16___
Memory allows the brain to store and recall information when required. Our short-term memory can hold a small amount of information for a short time, while our long-term memory can hold an unlimited amount of information for a long time. Our memory is amazing, but why do we still forget things?
It maybe because we are in a rush or we consider it irrelevant at the time. When we do store information, we often make connections with other things, which helps us recall it later. ___17___ It is also possible that memories decline over time. If you don’t perform a task for a long period of time, it can be difficult to recall how to do it. This could be because our memory is full,or that our short-term memory is easier to access.
___18___ Have you ever gone into a room to fetch something only to forget what you wanted when you got there? This is called “The Doorway Effect”. This occurs because we change both the physical and mental environments, moving to a different room and thinking about many different things.
So, if you have a mind like a sieve (筛子) ,it could be because you have too much on your mind. But we do need to keep our memory sharp by continually using it. ___19___That’s when we’re at more risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease.
However, forgetting is not always a bad thing! It would waste cognitive resources if we remembered every detail of the world around us. ___20___
A. That’s something worth remembering!
B. Maybe it’s no surprise that sometimes we are forgetful.
C. But sometimes even our short-term memory can let us down.
D. If you don’t have these connections, then it can be easier to forget.
E. However, it is widely recognized that short-term memory can be improved.
F. We also need some mental relaxation such as listening to some classical music.
G. Beyond our 50s, our brains tend to shrink in volume and our memory begins to decline.

My younger brother, Tom, was crazy about playing the drums. He’d been dreaming of joining the school’s music band and practiced hard every evening right after finishing his homework, usually from 5 pm to 6 pm. He said the loud beats helped him release stress from a day of studying. However, our thin apartment walls turned his practice sessions into a headache for the Lees.
Mrs. Lee worked night shifts at the hospital. She relied on the afternoons to sleep and recharge for the next shift, but the drumbeats would wake her up repeatedly. Mr. Lee, a freelance writer who worked from home, needed complete quiet to focus on his stories, but the constant “boom-boom-boom” would break his train of thought. We didn’t notice their trouble at first; Tom always closed his bedroom door when practicing, and we thought that would reduce the noise enough.
One Tuesday evening, Mr. Lee knocked on our door. His face looked serious, and I could tell he was upset. “I’m sorry to bother you,” he said, “but the drum noise has been making it hard for my wife to rest and me to work. We’ve tried closing the windows, but it still doesn’t help much.” My parents apologized immediately, but Tom felt wronged. He argued that he only practiced for an hour each day and had nowhere else to play. For the next few days, the atmosphere between our two families became awkward. We stopped greeting each other, and the walls seemed to grow thicker.
Deciding to fix the situation, my mom baked a plate of chocolate cookies — Mrs. Lee’s favorite, which we learned from a casual chat before — and asked Tom and me to take them to the Lees.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
When we arrived, Mrs. Lee opened the door with a surprised look.

The Man Who Hated Sitting Still
D 5. C 6. B 7. A
根据第一段“You may not know his face, but you surely know his voice. That calm, gentle, wonderfully warm voice tells you stories about lions, whales, and tiny little frogs. That’s Sir David Attenborough.(你可能不知道他的脸,但你一定熟悉他的声音。那平静、温柔、无比温暖的声音为你讲述狮子、鲸鱼和小青蛙的故事。那是大卫·爱登堡爵士)”可知,作者开篇强调大家不熟悉他的脸却熟悉他的声音,是为了突出声音才是定义他身份的核心特征,而非外貌。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“And here’s the funny thing. He never planned to appear on camera. His whole television career started almost by coincidence. The presenter of a new show called Zoo Quest fell ill at the very last minute, so Attenborough stepped in.(有趣的是,他从未计划在镜头前露面。他的整个电视生涯几乎是巧合开始的。一档名为《动物园探奇》的新节目主持人最后一刻病倒了,于是爱登堡顶替了他)”可知,爱登堡的电视生涯始于一次意外的顶替,是一条偶然的道路。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“But oddly enough, he didn’t enjoy sitting behind a desk. He missed the wild, the real world with mud and rain and animals that bite. He had power, but it meant little to him without adventure. So in 1973, he left his high-ranking job to return to making nature films.(但说来奇怪,他并不喜欢整天坐在办公桌后。
D 9. A 10. C 11. B
根据第一段中“Thick layers of sargassum (马尾藻) seaweed regularly wash ashore, blanketing sandy shores in vast brown piles and giving off an unpleasant smell, which has troubled not only local fishermen but also hotels and tourists, whose activities depend heavily on clean beaches.(厚厚的马尾藻层定期冲上岸,将沙滩覆盖在一片片巨大的褐色堆积物之下,并散发出难闻气味,这不仅困扰着当地渔民,也让高度依赖洁净海滩经营的酒店和游客深受其扰)”可知,马尾藻破坏了沿海地区的美观。
根据第二段中“Scientists hold the view that shifts in ocean currents and rising sea temperatures have contributed to the fast expansion of sargassum seaweed in the region.(科学家们认为,洋流变化和海水温度升高导致了该地区马尾藻的快速蔓延)”可知,科学家认为海洋环境的变化引发了马尾藻的扩散。
根据第四段中“At the same time, some scientists are studying how the seaweed can be used to create biofuels, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional energy sources.(与此同时,一些科学家正在研究如何利用这种海藻制造生物燃料,以提供比传统能源更清洁的替代选择)”可知,墨西哥人将马尾藻转化为清洁燃料。
根据最后一段中卡洛斯的表述“But it is possible that we can turn it into something of practical value, proving all this trouble isn’t for nothing.(但我们完全有可能把它变成具有实用价值的东西,证明这一切麻烦都没有白费)”可知,他认为墨西哥采取的解决方案是有前景的。

D 13. B 14. C 15. D
根据第一段中“A newly published report claims “AI-generated poetry is indistinguishable from human-written poetry and is rated more favorably”, which has drawn massive attention to this criticized yet beloved art form.(一份最新发布的报告称,“人工智能生成的诗歌与人类创作的诗歌已难以区分,且(AI诗歌)得到的好评更多”,这一说法让这种既饱受争议又备受喜爱的艺术形式引发了广泛关注。)”以及第二段中“Reports like these are important to investigate as they have practical and potentially serious consequences.(像这样的报告值得深入调查,因为它们具有实际的、潜在严重的后果。)”
根据第二段中“They can strengthen what some argue is the art form’s nugacity, which in turn helps fuel arguments that discredit the importance of teaching poetry and supporting passionate poets, as well as nonprofit poetry organizations and publishers dedicated to their work.(这些说法可能会强化某些人所主张诗歌这种艺术形式具有nugacity,它们会加剧某些人认为该艺术形式空洞无物的观点,进而助长贬低诗歌教学重要性、不支持有激情的诗人,以及削弱致力于诗歌事业的非营利组织和出版社公信力的论调。)”
根据第五段中“However, it should be noted that, among the characteristics, only rhyme is a specific and distinct formal element, making it easily recognizable. Rhyme, therefore, as in the previous experiment, could have influenced results favorably in the direction of ChatGPT.(然而,应该注意的是,在这些特征中,只有押韵是一个具体且独特的形式元素,使其容易被识别。
标题 “Voices of the Heart: Can AI Bridge?”
B 17. D 18. C 19. G 20. A
上文“Remembering things is an important function of our brain-if we can’t recall how to do something, we can’t survive. If you think about it, there is so much we have to remember — from where we leave our car keys to how we walk.(记忆东西是我们大脑的一个重要功能——如果我们不能回忆起如何做事,我们就无法生存。如果你想一下,我们有很多事情要记住——从我们把车钥匙放在哪里到我们如何走路)”讲述了记忆的重要性以及我们需要记忆的事情之多。B选项“Maybe it’s no surprise that sometimes we are forgetful.(也许我们有时会健忘并不奇怪)”与上文构成转折关系,提出虽然记忆很重要,但有时候我们还是会忘记一些事情,进而引出文章关于“Why we forget?”
上文“When we do store information, we often make connections with other things, which helps us recall it later.(当我们储存信息时,我们经常会与其他事物建立联系,这有助于我们以后回忆)”讲述了我们如何储存信息并帮助回忆。D选项“If you don’t have these connections, then it can be easier to forget.(如果你没有这些联系,那么就更容易忘记)”与上文构成对比关系,指出如果没有这些联系,我们就更容易忘记信息,句中“these connections”指代上文“connections”,上下文语意连贯。故选D项。
下文“Have you ever gone into a room to fetch something only to forget what you wanted when you got there? 【20题详解】
上文“However, forgetting is not always a bad thing! It would waste cognitive resources if we remembered every detail of the world around us.(然而,忘记并不总是一件坏事!如果我们记住周围世界的每一个细节,那就会浪费认知资源)”讲述了忘记的好处,即可以避免浪费认知资源。A选项“That’s something worth remembering!(这是值得记住的!)” 故选A项。

根据时间状语“since the early solar system”可知,此处应用现在完成时,其结构为“have/has +过去分词”,主语the moon’s surface是第三人称单数,所以用has preserved。
“the moon’s evolution”与“that of other planets”是并列关系,所以用and连接。故填and。

Mr. and Mrs. Lee moved into the apartment next door in early September. At first, we exchanged polite smiles when passing by, but things changed soon.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
When we arrived, Mrs. Lee opened the door with a surprised look.

After a discussion, they agreed on a new schedule for drum practice.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When we arrived, Mrs. Lee opened the door with a surprised look. Her tired eyes softened the instant I handed her the cookies and expressed our sincere apology. Tom said sorry again for the disturbance, not knowing how to make up for the trouble. To our surprise, Mr. Lee wore a smile and said to Tom, “We appreciate your kindness and passion for music. You may continue practising at home. How about adjusting the time for your drumming?” Tom agreed without hesitation.
After a discussion, they agreed on a new schedule for drum practice. Tom decided to shift his one-hour practice to 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., a time when Mrs. Lee had woken up from her afternoon rest and Mr. Lee had finished his most intensive writing work. Satisfied with the thoughtful arrangement, the Lees praised Tom for his sincerity and consideration. The awkward atmosphere between the two families disappeared completely. The once annoying drumbeats turned into harmonious music bridging our two families, teaching us that mutual understanding is the best way to settle conflicts.
