Tips for Teenagers’ Hobby Development
① Know yourself
Before you pick up any hobby, think about your personality, your free time and your real love. If you are creative, you can try painting, writing or handcrafts. If you are outgoing, join sports clubs or music teams. A suitable hobby fits your life and makes you relaxed instead of bringing you pressure.
② Learn from others
You can ask your teachers, parents or friends for advice. They know you well and can give you proper suggestions. You can also join hobby clubs at school. In the club, you can meet people with the same interest, learn from each other and encourage each other to keep going. Sharing your hobby with others will bring you more happiness.
③ Take it easy
Don’t treat your hobby as a new study task. You don’t have to be perfect at it. The purpose of having a hobby is to enjoy yourself, not to compete with others. If you only care about being better than others, you will lose the real fun of your hobby. Just enjoy the process and grow slowly.
④ Keep it simple
You don’t need to learn too many hobbies at the same time. One or two meaningful hobbies are enough. Learning too many hobbies will make you tired and you can’t do any of them well. Focus on one thing, keep practicing, and you will gain rewards sooner or later.
Hobbies are the treasure of our teenage life. They accompany us through hard study days, comfort us when we are upset, and help us become better versions of ourselves. Choose wisely, stick firmly and enjoy your hobby life.

China Daily recently reported that more than 60% of Chinese teenagers have taken online personality tests. But are these tests really accurate?
Psychologists say that personality is complex. No single test can fully describe who you are. However, understanding your personality can help you make better decisions — especially about your future career.
Take 16-year-old Zhang Lin from Nanjing as an example. She used to think she was an introvert(内向的人) because she preferred reading to socializing. But after joining the school’s debate team, she discovered she actually enjoyed expressing her opinions in public. “I was just shy because I lacked practice,” she says. “Now I realize I’m more outgoing than I thought.”
Experts suggest that instead of relying only on tests, we should try different activities to discover our true personalities. “The more experiences you have, the better you understand yourself,” says Professor Li from Beijing Normal University. “Personality is not fixed. It grows and changes as we face new challenges.”
So next time you take a personality test, remember: it’s just a tool, not a final answer. The real journey of knowing yourself comes from living and trying.

A.never changes
B.grows and changes with new challenges
C.is decided at birth
D.can only be understood through tests
5.What is the main message of this passage?
A.Personality tests are a waste of time.
B.Introverts cannot become outgoing.
C.Teenagers should not take online tests.
D.Knowing yourself comes from living and trying.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.B 5.D

If you have to describe your character when facing difficulties, what will you say? It can be difficult to keep going, but knowing how to persist, namely perseverance, can help you understand setbacks and make friendships closer.
Perseverance means having a good understanding of our own challenges, that is, having the ability to stick to our goals clearly. If you’re perseverant, you may know that you keep practicing basketball because you love it, and sport makes you happy, or that you prefer reading on your own because it helps you relax.
Knowing what you like and dislike, what you do well in and what you find difficult allows you to make better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and so on. You learn to trust your own feelings more, which builds confidence. The World Health Organization says perseverance is one of ten important life skills that help young people live happier, healthier lives. Being perseverant doesn’t mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people too.
How do you learn to be perseverant? It’s a good way to ask questions. But ask yourself questions that start with “What” instead of “Why”. So if you don’t understand why you keep failing a test, ask yourself what you can improve instead of why you’re failing.
Learning to be more perseverant is a skill, which means you learn it as you grow. So be bold and try out new things, like joining a marathon or learning a different kind of skill. Don’t be afraid to fail—discovering what you find difficult is a key part of learning more about yourself.
1.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.What perseverance is.
B.What true happiness is.
C.How to find true happiness.
D.How to develop self-awareness.
2.Why is perseverance important?
A.Because it’ll make you think more of yourself.
B.Because it’ll make you perform better at school.
C.Because it’ll help you learn how to ask proper questions.
D.Because it’ll help you have a better understanding of others.
3.What does the underlined word “bold” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Hard-working. B.Proud.
C.Brave. D.Patient.
4.What’s one of the keys to becoming more perseverant?
A.Being in high spirits.
B.Discovering your weak points.
C.Having a taste for pleasant music.
D.Learning to get along well with others.
5.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Getting to know yourself
B.The Power of Never Giving Up
C.Thinking of yourself
D.Asking yourself questions
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.B 5.B

Lu Canglong, a post-90s born in Lishui, Zhejiang Province, invented the “cloud-maker” profession after getting inspiration (灵感) from clouds. In 2015, Lu was shocked when he happened to see a large evening cloud above his head.
“That was a fantastic cloud. It seemed to burn the sky,” said Lu. “So I wanted to keep it!”
How to keep the beautiful moment became a problem for him. Lu took a picture of the clouds and simulated (仿造) them and then stored them in a clear cube (立方体). Such simulated clouds have become popular among his fans.
In 2019, Lu decided to give up his work because his spare time wasn't enough to make enough clouds to meet the increasing need. In the winter of 2019, he opened his store “Sky Fair” online. In 2020 alone, he sold over 200,000 “clouds” to more than 40,000 people across China, and sales reached more than 1 million yuan.
Apart from cloud-makers, other creative professions have also appeared across China. Wen Chenhua is an armorsmith (铸甲师). He made his first armor in 2012. It was a Song-Dynasty style fish-scale armor weighing 30 kilos. He hoped to sell it for 50,000 yuan. But the customer offered 1.5 times the price. Wen opened his online store in 2014. His yearly sales are around 6 million yuan now.
As of August 2021, there were at least 200,000 creative culture shops online. Around 77 percent of these businesses were operated (经营) by people younger than 30.
Thanks to the huge population of Chinese customers as well as the massive (巨大的) sales on online shopping platforms, many new businesses and services are now able to thrive. That brings huge money to these businessmen.
“In the age of the Internet, more and more people are able to take up a profession in which their interest lies,” an industry insider said.
1.Why did Lu give up his work in 2019?
A.He only wanted to earn much more money.
B.Something unlucky happened in his life.
C.He needed more time for his part-time job.
D.Someone invited him to open a shop online.
2.How much did Wen make from his first armor?
A.50,000 yuan. B.1 million yuan. C.75,000 yuan. D.6 million yuan.
3.The underlined word “thrive” is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.become acceptable B.grow successfully C.make a change D.enter the market

3.根据第七段“Thanks to the huge population of Chinese customers as well as the massive sales on online shopping platforms, many new businesses and services are now able to thrive. That brings huge money to these businessmen.”,能推断出thrive表示生意发展顺利、取得成功,和grow successfully含义最贴近。

Different personalities make the world colourful. Organized people love to keep everything in order. Careless people often make mistakes. Social people are good at communicating and they can come up with creative ideas because of rich imagination. These personalities decide how we deal with different things.
However, most teenagers meet teenage problems during middle school. Heavy homework, conflicts with parents and worries about hobbies are common troubles. Many students have trouble balancing study and hobbies. Some parents believe hobbies get in the way of schoolwork and ask their children to give up hobbies.
If you meet similar problems, don’t keep your worries to yourself. You can talk with teachers or friends. You need to learn to manage time wisely. You should also try to communicate patiently with your parents and explain your thoughts.
Some teenagers doubt whether it is worth spending time on hobbies. In fact, suitable hobbies can help you relax after busy study and reduce your stress. The key is balance. Neither study nor hobbies should take up all your time.

Self-awareness (自我认知) means knowing your thoughts, feelings and behavior, and understanding how you fit into the world. If you are self-aware, you may know that you love playing basketball because you are good at it, and music makes you happy, or that you prefer watching TV on your own because it helps you relax.
Knowing what you like and dislike, what you are good at and what you find difficult allows you to make better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and even which films to watch. You learn to trust your own feelings more, which builds confidence. The World Health Organization says self-awareness is one of the ten important life skills that help young people lead happier and healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn’t mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you have more understanding for other people, too.
Asking yourself questions is a great way to develop a better understanding of yourself and your actions. When you ask yourself questions, you can start to look at the bigger picture, why you feel a certain way, or why you reacted to something the way you did, etc. You can ask the questions like this: “Why do I avoid this certain thing?”, “What am I trying to achieve?”, “How am I feeling right now, and how is that influencing me?”, “How do others consider me and feel about my actions?”. In doing this, you can start to find out things that perhaps you do not even think twice about in day-to-day life, and this can be a great way to start developing your self-awareness.
Learning to be more self-aware is a skill, which means you learn it as you grow. So try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different music. Don’t be afraid to dislike something—discovering what you find difficult and challenging is a key part of learning more about yourself.

1.What does the survey by China Daily show?
A.Most Chinese teenagers are introverts.
B.Over 60% of Chinese teenagers have taken personality tests.
C.Personality tests are completely accurate.
D.Chinese teenagers are interested in careers.

A.can fully describe who you are
B.are not useful at all
C.are just tools, not final answers
D.should be taken by everyone
3.What changed Zhang Lin’s view of her personality?
A.Joining the school debate team.
B.Her teacher’s advice.
C.An online personality test.
D.Reading a book about psychology.
4.Professor Li believes that personality ________.
A.never changes
B.grows and changes with new challenges
C.is decided at birth
D.can only be understood through tests
5.What is the main message of this passage?
A.Personality tests are a waste of time.
B.Introverts cannot become outgoing.
C.Teenagers should not take online tests.
D.Knowing yourself comes from living and trying.

4.In which part of a newspaper may this passage appear?
A.Business. B.Science. C.Travel. D.Fashion.
Remember: it is normal to have problems. What matters is finding proper ways to solve them.
1.Which personality is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A.organized B.social C.patient D.careless
2.What is a common teenage problem according to the text?

A.How to change your personality
B.Personalities and ways to solve teenage problems

If you had to describe yourself to someone else, what would you say? It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, but realizing who you are can help you understand feelings and make friendships closer.
1.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.What self-awareness is. B.Why self-awareness is important.
C.When self-awareness works. D.How to develop self-awareness.
2.How can we develop our self-awareness according to paragraph 4?
A.Learn a new skill. B.Ask ourselves questions.

The World Health Organization says self-awareness is one of ten important life skills that help young people live happier, healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn’t mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people too.
How do you learn to be self-aware? It’s a good way to ask questions. But ask yourself questions that start with “What” instead of “Why”. So if you don’t understand why you keep arguing with a friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you’re arguing.
Learning to be more self-aware is a skill, which means you learn it as you grow. So be bold and try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different kinds of music. Don’t be afraid to dislike something—discovering what you find difficult is a key part of learning more about yourself.
