Home exchange travel, a new way of traveling, is gradually gaining popularity among travelers. It lets people stay in local homes during trips, deeply experiencing local life and culture.
Lin Yue, a young girl who has an adventurous spirit and likes exploring new things, decided to try a home exchange trip last summer. Through a home exchange website, she reached an agreement with a family in Paris, France. She had always wanted to go to Paris, and this trip gave her a special chance to experience the romantic city in a real way.
When Lin Yue arrived in Paris, she was immediately captivated by the streets and buildings full of history. She lived in a warm apartment of a local family, which was in a lively community with bakeries, cafes and small shops. Like a local person, she bought freshly-baked bread from the corner bakery every morning. The smell of the warm bread filled the air when she walked on the stone streets. Then she would go to the park, where she could see locals playing chess under old trees or feeding friendly pigeons. In the evenings, she joined neighbors at the community square, listening to music played by local bands and chatting with them about their daily lives.
Before the trip, Lin Yue thought traveling was just about visiting famous places, taking photos, and then leaving. However, this home exchange trip changed her idea completely. She felt a deep sense of connection to the city and its people. It was as if she had found a hidden world full of warmth. She realized that real travel is not only about seeing scenery but also about becoming part of the local life, communicating with locals, and understanding their culture.
Lin Yue said, “Home exchange travel makes me feel another kind of charm of traveling. I’m not a person who just passes by quickly. I’ve become a part of this city. About one in 10 people worldwide die from stroke (中风), the third leading cause of death globally after heart disease and COVID-19. The number of people who have had a stroke has been rising in the U.S. and worldwide. While stroke victims are living longer and surviving more than such victims before, they’re also getting younger.
A new study in the Lancet Neurology reveals more people worldwide are surviving after a stroke, with no increases and even some decreases in strokes among adults over 70 — but increases in strokes in younger adults, particularly those under 55.
Among more than 5.2 million adults surveyed in the May CDC report from 2011 – 2022, those with a stroke increased from 2.7 percent in 2011 – 2013 to 2.9 percent in 2020 – 2022. Although older age is a known risk factor for stroke, prevalence (患病率) did not actually go up in adults aged 65 and older.
The age group with the largest growth was 45 to 64, accounting for a 16 percent increase. Among adults aged 18 – 44, stroke occurrence also rose by a relative 15 percent. In plain terms, younger adults still make up a very small proportion of overall strokes, but rates are climbing quickly in these younger groups with no increases seen in older adults.
Growing risk factors range from climbing rates of obesity (肥胖) to hotter temperatures from climate change, but the single biggest risk factor is the same across every region in the world: high blood pressure, responsible for a little over half of all strokes, the Lancet study found. Fortunately, of all the risk factors for stroke, hypertension is also one of the easiest to monitor and change. A healthy blood pressure is anything below 120/80, which can be achieved through both lifestyle changes and medicines.
Richard Temes, a neurologist at Northwell Health in New York, say’s the first step for individuals is understanding their risk, whether from lifestyle or family history. Changing one aspect of lifestyle can have a chain effect.
8. What can be known from Paragraph 1?
A. COVID-19 is the deadliest disease globally.
B. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S.
C. There is a tendency for younger adults to develop stroke.
D. People suffering from stroke live longer than those who don’t.
9. How are Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4 developed?
A. By listing relevant figures. B. By explaining cause and effect.
C. By providing supporting reasons. D. By comparing the similarities and differences.
10. What does the underlined word “hypertension” mean in paragraph 5?
A. Mental pressure. B. Body temperature.
C. High blood pressure. D. Heart disease.
11. Which could serve as the best title for this text?
A. Stroke: A Disease on the Rise.
B. Stroke: A Younger Trend Worldwide.
C. Healthy Lifestyle: Key Factor to Avoid Stroke.
D. High Blood Pressure: The Biggest Risk among Adults.

“I was dead for 67 minutes. It’s a miracle that I’m here today.” Those are the words of Bruce Richardson, who survived a cardiac arrest (心脏骤停) in July 2016 thanks to the quick actions of his friends and the first responders who refused to give up.
It was an early summer morning, a typical Saturday. Bruce volunteered as usual in the community center. “I had no symptoms that there was any problem. It was a completely normal morning; I felt fine,” he shared. “I was visiting with friends. Then, I passed out. What happened next I know from what others have told me.”
Bruce’s friend, Jack, had learned how to perform CPR, and he quickly began chest compressions. Another friend, Doug, dialed 911 and the operator walked him through compressions until first responders arrived. Once the ambulance arrived, the paramedic tried five times to restart Bruce’s heart with an AED. By this time, Bruce had been without a heartbeat for over 30 minutes, often when time of death is called. On the phone with an emergency room doctor, one of the paramedics was instructed to try two AEDs simultaneously (同时). It worked; Bruce’s heart began to beat again. Incredibly, he awoke the next day and was able to communicate. After a week, Bruce made a full recovery and left the hospital.
Since Bruce’s cardiac arrest, he has since been able to resume a normal life with some differences. He now is a passionate CPR advocate. He has shared his story in the news, and last year he was a guest speaker at the Association’s Indianapolis Heart & Stroke Ball to encourage people to spread the message of CPR. Finally, Bruce shared his story in a video now being used to promote American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR kiosks installed around the country.
12. What made Bruce’s survival from a severe heart attack possible?
A. The doctor’s first aid without delay.
B. The instant actions of his friends and the first responders.
C. His volunteer experiences in the community center.
D. His friends’ proper guidance on performing CPR.
13. Why did Bruce share his story in a video?
A. To advocate the application of CPR. B. To appeal to more people to volunteer.
C. To share his struggle for a normal life. D. To enhance people’s awareness of fitness.
14. What can we learn from Bruce’s story?
A. Hard work will pay off one day. B. Ease your mind when panic arises.
C. Learning to live in the present matters. D. The knowledge of first aid counts.
15. What is the text?
A. A research paper. B. A book review. C. A news report. D. A course advertisement.

It’s now been 10 years since I sold everything and left the United States to travel the world. Here are some of my best travel planning tips to help you have a great trip.
____16____ I don’t know how to answer when readers ask how many days they should spend traveling in a particular country or city. The truth is that I have no idea what you’ll enjoy or who you’ll meet. My advice is to pick a starting point, 1 or 2 must-do activities, and an ending point(or not). ____17____ Be open to changing your plans if you learn about something along the way!
Learn a few foreign words. There’s no need to be fluent in order to visit a foreign country. However, mastering a few phrases in the local language can improve your travel experience.____18____ But remember that this is your problem, not theirs. Raising your voice doesn’t magically help Mexicans understand English. Try hand signals, images on your phone, or Google Translate!
Write down the address of your hotel. Sometimes, after a long flight playing games on your smartphone, your battery could end up dead. And if you didn’t write down where you’re staying, how will you tell the taxi driver? ____19____
Read a book about the country. Before you travel to a new country, I recommend reading a good book about it to learn more about its history and culture before you arrive. ____20____ Your travel experience will be different if you already know about your destination.
A. Pick a starting point.
B. Be flexible and don’t over plan.
C. Then just let the universe determine the rest.
D. You are sure to benefit from these simple images.

I held my purse tightly as I rushed into my neighborhood Starbucks. The rich smell of freshly made coffee filled the air, but I paid no attention my eyes were fixed on the shelf where the limited edition bear cups should have been. But it was empty! My heart sank, but I walked straight to the register.
“Do you have any more of those bear cups in the warehouse?” I asked, leaning forward. That cup was for my sick niece, who’d been begging for it for weeks.
The server, a young woman with a name tag reading “Lila”, gave a polite but apologetic smile. “I’m so sorry, ma’am. They’re selling very fast — we sell out within hours of getting a new shipment. We’ll have a new delivery on Friday, though. I can put your name and number down to set one aside for you.”
My patience broke. I hit my hand on the counter and said, “No! That’s impossible!” My voice was loud, drawing looks from every corner of the store. “From downtown to the suburbs, this is the ninth Starbucks I’ve been to today! Nine. And everyone says ‘sold out’! But I see them online for hundreds of dollars! You’re holding them back to resell, aren’t you?!”
Lila’s smile faded, but her voice stayed steady. “Ma’am, I work fifty hours a week here. The last thing I want is to bring a Starbucks cup home. We don’t keep any back — first-come, first-served. Even regular customers struggle to get one. Can I get you a drink or something to eat? Our lemon loaf just came out warm.”
Anger made my cheeks burn. “Forget it!” I hit both hands on the counter harder, then turned around and rushed out. The doorbell rang sharply behind me. As I walked away, guilt washed over me — I’d totally overreacted, but I was so desperate to see my niece smile.

根据画线词所在句“When Lin Yue arrived in Paris, she was immediately captivated by the streets and buildings full of history.(当林悦抵达巴黎时,她立刻就被那些充满历史气息的街道和建筑所captivated)”以及后文她在巴黎的愉快经历可知,林悦被巴黎充满历史韵味的街道和建筑所吸引,故划线词意思是“被吸引的”。
根据第三段“She lived in a warm apartment of a local family, which was in a lively community with bakeries, cafes and small shops. Like a local person, she bought freshly-baked bread from the corner bakery every morning.(她住在当地一家人家温馨的公寓里,那所公寓位于一个热闹的社区内,那里有面包店、咖啡馆和小商店。和当地人一样,她每天早上都会从街角的面包店购买新鲜出炉的面包)”可知,林悦住进当地家庭的公寓,像当地人一样生活、参加活动,所以她觉得自己成为了这座城市的一部分。故选D。
【6题详解】

She felt a deep sense of connection to the city and its people. It was as if she had found a hidden world full of warmth.
C 9. A 10. C 11. B
根据第一段中“While stroke victims are living longer and surviving more than such victims before, they’re also getting younger. (虽然中风患者比以前的患者寿命更长,存活时间更长,但他们也越来越年轻)”可知,中风的人有年轻化的趋势。故选C项。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Among more than 5.2 million adults surveyed in the May CDC report from 2011 – 2022, those with a stroke increased from 2.7 percent in 2011 – 2013 to 2.9 percent in 2020 – 2022. (美国疾病控制与预防中心5月份的报告显示,在2011年至2022年期间调查的520多万成年人中,中风患者从2011年至2013年的2.7%增加到2020年至2022年的2.9%)”和第四段中“The age group with the largest growth was 45 to 64, accounting for a 16 percent increase. Among adults aged 18 – 44, stroke occurrence also rose by a relative 15 percent. (增长最大的年龄组是45岁至64岁,增长了16%。在18至44岁的成年人中,中风发生率也相对上升了15%)”可知,这两段都用到了列数据说明的方法来阐释研究结果。故选A项。
画线词的上文“Growing risk factors range from climbing rates of obesity (肥胖) to hotter temperatures from climate change, but the single biggest risk factor is the same across every region in the world: high blood pressure, responsible for a little over half of all strokes, the Lancet study found.
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“While stroke victims are living longer and surviving more than such victims before, they’re also getting younger. (虽然中风患者比以前的患者寿命更长,存活时间更长,但他们也越来越年轻)”可知,文章主要介绍了一项新的研究发现中风呈现年轻化趋势,并分析了导致中风的因素,分享了预防措施。因此,B项“中风:世界范围内的年轻化趋势”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选B项。

B 13. A 14. D 15. C

根据上文“Before you travel to a new country, I recommend reading a good book about it to learn more about its history and culture before you arrive.(在你去一个新的国家旅行之前,我建议你读一本关于它的好书,在你到达之前了解更多关于它的历史和文化。)”和下文“Your travel experience will be different if you already know about your destination.(如果你已经了解了你的目的地,你的旅行体验将会不同。)”

Good morning, everyone!
I am going to talk about one real hero in my heart. In my opinion, a hero is someone or something that has a power of inspiring and guiding others.
He was a famous physicist who studies the universe and made big achievements. He had serious physical problems, and can only move one finger. But he never gave up life, and he never stopped considering about the most difficult physics puzzles. He was Stephen Williams Hawking. His strong will for life and great enthusiasm for science helped him to ignore the terrible disease and kept thinking. Hawking interpreted the saying “While there’s life, there is hope”.
When I am faced with adversity, it is his heroic spirit that inspires me to overcome difficulties and continue moving forward. From now on, tell yourself to have a valuable goal, take the spirits that we learn from Hawking, and then: Are you ready to be a hero?
Thank you for your listening.

One possible version:
The next day, I gathered the courage to return, determined to apologize. Lila was taking an order when she saw me; she nodded gently, indicating she’d be with me soon. When she came over, I lowered my head slightly and said, “Lila, I’m truly sorry for yelling at you yesterday. I was really overwhelmed — my niece is sick, and I just wanted to make her happy.” She smiled, “I understand. Family matters most. I’ll keep one for you. Could you leave your phone number so I can call you when it comes in?”I quickly wrote it down, thanking her repeatedly.
Three days later, my phone rang. It was Lila, her warm voice coming through: “Hi, this is Lila from Starbucks. The bear cup you wanted has arrived.” A surge of joy filled me, and I thanked her again. I rushed to the store right away, and when I saw the neatly placed bear cup on the counter, I knew my niece’s wish would come true. Taking the cup gently in my hands, I was already looking forward to seeing my niece’s bright smile. It was Lila’s kindness that had turned my anxiety into relief.
