Reading Comprehension
Some social media sites have advice columns. People can share their problems and ask for advice. The posts below were written by five different teenagers.
I’m in charge of collecting the homework in my class. Recently, one of my friends has started forgetting her homework. When I asked her about it, she begged me not to tell the teacher. I didn’t know what to do at first, and I didn’t want to get my friend into trouble. After giving it a lot of thought, I finally decided to tell the teacher. Now she doesn’t talk to me any more, and I feel awful whenever I see her. Did I do the wrong thing? What should I do now?
I love cooking. Our school’s Food Festival starts next week, and I wanted to make some nice snacks for my classmates, but Mum told me, “School is more important! You should focus on your homework.” I also like to go skateboarding after school. However, Mum is angry with me because I don’t come home immediately after school. I feel really sad about this. How can I prove to her that having hobbies won’t affect my schoolwork?
I’ve just started wearing braces, but I hate them. I don’t see why I have to wear them. I feel really embarrassed when I smile or open my mouth. The braces hurt my teeth, and it’s difficult for me to eat. Why does my mother make me wear these ugly braces?
I have to share a room with my seven‑year‑old sister, and she’s driving me mad! She has a habit of playing the piano when I’m studying, and she always takes my things without telling me. I try to keep our room tidy, but she always messes it up. I love my sister, but sometimes she’s such a pain! What should I do?
My parents and I have moved to a new house. I’ve already visited the town, but I haven’t started my new school yet. I’ve been so nervous about it because I’m quite shy. What if I don’t get on with my new classmates? What if there is no one that I hit it off with? I need some advice.
