Step 1 Pre-reading(1a)
Conduct a survey among students in advance to find out their definitions of good friends, record a video, and then play it for the students in class.
T:Guys, what is a good friend like? Let's watch the video and find the answer.
Work on 1a
Ask students to share their similarities and differences between them and their friends.
T:Are you similar to or different from your classmates? In what ways are you similar or in what ways are you different?
【设计意图】通过分享和自己朋友的异同点,激发学生的学习兴趣,同时引入主题和新词汇。
Step 2 Reading(1b~1d)
Work on 1b
1.Ask students to read the posts and find out Matt's and Diana's opinions.
2.Check the answer in class and ask students where to find the answer from the posts.
Work on 1c
1.Ask students to read the posts again and match the people with the descriptions.
T:Who is Matt's friend? Who is Diana's friend? What are they like? Match the five kids with the descriptions.
2.Ask students to share the answers and help to correct their mistakes if necessary.
Work on 1d
1.Ask students to read the posts again and answer the questions.
T:Now let's come to know more about them. Read the posts in groups and answer these questions.
2.Ask students to underline some key phrases and sentences according to the Chinese meaning on the PPT.

Step 3 After-reading(1e)
Work on 1e
1.Divide the class into two big groups with each group consisting of three small groups and conduct a group debate. One group supports the view that “Similarities are more important for friendship”,and the other group supports the view that “Differences are more important for friendship”.
The pro side (G1:statement,G2:supporting ideas,G3:summary)
The con side (G4:statement,G5:supporting ideas,G6:summary)
2.Ask students to discuss the question in group:what really matters in a friendship? Provide each group with a large piece of poster board, coloured pens, stickers and other materials. Require each group to create a poster centred around “What really matters in a friendship”.The content of the poster board can include words, pictures, charts, etc.,and it is necessary to clearly display the key elements of a friendship and the reasons considered important by the group.
3.Ask each group to paste their poster board on the classroom wall and introduce the content of the poster board to other groups. Other groups can write comments or supplementary opinions beside each poster board, and finally the whole class summarizes the most recognized key elements of a friendship.
【设计意图】通过从不同的角度对友谊进行深度思考,培育学生的情感认知与价值建构能力。
Step 4 Homework
