Some teachers create an interesting situation in which the newly learnt grammar can be practised.
We should give serious consideration to this matter.
I would like you to come to my office to pick up the ticket.
It didn’t seem worthwhile writing it all out again.
1.非正式语体对词汇的使用不拘一格,运用很多较短的单词(如fire,climb和 ask),运用很多口语词汇(如stuff,fit,a lot of,thing和 sort of),还会运用一些短语动词(如运用set up,而不用establish)。如:
We exercise to keep fit.
Come to my office for a ticket.
Help yourself.
I’m all ears.
We’ve heard lots of reports on cybercrime.
I’d like to pay some money into my account.
FORMAL INFORMAL

A
I was born in 1990—the year of the white horse.A girl born under this zodiac(生肖) is believed to have a wild steed-like(骏马般的) spirit that will be unrestrained, bringing her family trouble. As a girl growing up in South Korea,I was repeatedly told to fight against my steed-like spirit and instead try being still, gentle, and quiet.
16
Actually, when I was young,I loved exploring the mountainous roads behind our house, examining the various soil layers in nearby fields and running wild outdoors.I often returned home with soiled clothes.
Then I entered high school and settled on a quiet career choice: I would become a lawyer. My elders praised me for a decision they imagined would lead me to a respectable desk job. However, when I was accepted into a pre-law program,I found the courses boring. That’s when a teacher pushed me in a different direction.“You could always get a science degree, and go back into law,” she said.
17
I took her advice and landed in the United States to study geology(地质学).Shortly thereafter, though, culture shock set in.I was not ready for the intense physical requirements of my field courses. One 6-week summer course required long-distance hikes, camping in extreme heat, and heavy lifting. My cultural upbringing had discouraged such “wild” activities and I had never gone on extended hikes or camped before. But other women in my program were an inspiration.I saw beauty in their strength, and I wanted to be like them.
18
By the end of my undergraduate degree,I had fully accepted my love of being a tough girl. And I’d given up on the idea of becoming a lawyer. My parents didn’t quite know what to make of my adventurous field life. But they were supportive when I told them about the change in my career direction.
I’m now a professional with years of experience collecting samples in challenging field environments. My wild,steed-like spirit wasn’t something to suppress.Instead,it led me to a career that’s a perfect fit for me.

Drone hobbyists will be required to register their aircraft with the government or face unspecified penalties(处罚),the US Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) announced a new law on Monday.
24
The move is an attempt to prevent drones endangering air safety,as the number of complaints about errant(偏离的) flyers has skyrocketed in recent months, the FAA said.
“We are certainly seeing a significant increase in reports,” Huerta, administrator of the FAA,said.“Clearly, this is an industry that is taking off.And there are a lot of activities taking place in the national airspace system.”
25
Drones are taking to the skies in groups, and the number of tiny flyers is expected to multiply in the coming years.Amazon and Google aim to use drones to deliver commercial goods in the next decade.Already this year, pilots and others have reported 100 complaints about drones a month, roughly double the rate of complaints last year, the FAA said. Many of those complaints are about close calls,in which drones narrowly miss other aircraft.
26
The FAA bars people from flying drones within 5 miles of an airport,or higher than 400 feet above the ground. But increasingly, drone pilots are breaking those rules. In August, for instance, two airplanes landing at Kennedy International Airport came within 100 feet of a drone flying at a height of roughly 800 feet. When such drones violate(侵犯) airspace, the government currently has no way to locate their operators.
27
The Transportation Security Administration(TSA) and the FAA are working out the details, but right now,the new registry wouldn’t require drones to carry trackers. And it wouldn’t institute a policy of “geofencing”,which involves creating marked-off safe spaces where drones would automatically be deactivated.
“Unless a drone crashes,it could be difficult to identify tiny flyers from sight alone. But our biggest challenge so far has not been identifying the drone itself. It’s been connecting it back to the person who’s using it,” said Foxx, secretary of the TSA.
28
5.Why did the FAA announce the law?
A.To promote drones’ business services.
B.To regulate drones for airspace security.
C.To adjust the flight direction of errant drones.
D.To charge people for personal use of airspace.
√

解析
30
7.What is the major problem that the TSA faces concerning drones?
