After a long-term study, Wan Nian worked out an exact calendar called Taiyangli. When he presented it to the emperor, Wan Nian was an old man with white hair. The emperor was very moved. To praise the achievement of Wan Nian, he named the calendar Wannianli. In memory of Wan Nian, people called the first day of a year Nian, so the Chinese New Year was born.
