根据Get some free tickets部分中“You’ll need to add £2,000 to the account to cancel out a £3 monthly charge, but that money doesn’t need to be in one go or stay there—you can draw it straight back out.(你需要在账户里存入2000英镑,以抵消每月3英镑的费用,但这笔钱不需要一次性存入,也不需要留在那里——你可以直接取出来。)” 故选A。
根据Buy special offer tickets部分中“Other deals include National Cinema Day (usually in September) when all tickets are £3.(其他优惠还包括全国电影日(通常在9月),所有票价为3英镑。)”

根据第一段的“But instead of talent and hard work, she shared that her support system made a big difference in landing her a medal at Paris 2024.
根据第三段的“After I screwed up the two runs, I thought I was not going to be able to do it anymore. 结合前文“failed to put down a single clean line (未能完成一条干净的线路)”和“the already heavy stress on Leal’s shoulders doubled in weight (Leal肩上本来就很重的压力又增加了一倍)”可知,Leal在前两圈表现不尽如人意,故猜测screwed up意为“搞砸、表现糟糕”,与Did badly in意义一致。
根据第三段“Her family was there, and her whole team was there. Having received a hug from everyone and having heard very positive and encouraging words, she came back 100 percent, even more focused. That was what changed the game right there.(她的家人和整个团队都在那里。 正是这一点改变了战局)”以及第四段“As soon as I realised that I was in third place...My coach was there. We hugged each other, and we cried together. And all I could think was the most positive thoughts in the world.(我一意识到自己获得了第三名……
通读全文,并结合第一段的“But instead of talent and hard work, she shared that her support system made a big difference in landing her a medal at Paris 2024.

根据第一段“When my teenage son became seriously ill, terrible times for my family began.
根据第二段“I was awkward when I received it because I couldn’t get it to make a sound although I am a professional saxophone player (当我收到它时,我感到很尴尬,因为尽管我是一名专业的萨克斯管演奏者,但我却无法让它发出声音)”可知,作者感到尴尬是因为她没能把它吹好。
根据第三段“He did no better than us, causing more laughter. (他做得并不比我们好,引起了更多的笑声)”以及第四段“It was the best ten minutes of the past couple of years.
根据最后一段“But this experience with the kazoo brought some change in our hearts that always reminds us that there are still things to laugh at and enjoy, and that we can still connect as a family.

根据第一段“When my son was little, he liked to run in our driveway until he fell. He would then turn to me to see if he was hurt. If my face betrayed worry or concern, he would cry. If I stayed calm, he would brush himself off and get back to running. Here was this human being who was depending on me to make sense of the world — not just how to tie his shoes or recite the ABCs, but how to feel.
根据第四段“However, a young person who gets used to having a parent intervene on his behalf begins to believe that he’s not capable of acting on his own, feeling both anxiety and dependence.
根据最后一段“A lighthouse parent stands as a steady, reliable guide, providing safety and understanding without controlling every aspect of their child’s journey, like a lighthouse that helps sailors avoid crashing into rocks. The key is learning when to step back and enable them to find their own way.
根据第一段作者在儿子摔倒后保持冷静,让儿子自己处理,以及第二段儿子在学校遇到问题,作者没有急于介入,而是引导儿子自己解决,可知作者善于引导孩子自己解决问题,是明智的;根据最后一段“A lighthouse parent stands as a steady, reliable guide, providing safety and understanding without controlling every aspect of their child’s journey, like a lighthouse that helps sailors avoid crashing into rocks.

根据前文“In just over a month, Australia will start a social media ban (禁令). From December 10, people under 16 will only be able to see public content on platforms (平台) such as Facebook and TikTok, and they will not be allowed to have their own accounts. 以及后文“But many parents worry about how teens will respond. 中的But可知,此空应说明有部分群体对该禁令持支持态度,与后文家长的担忧形成转折,B选项“Some safety experts and parents welcome this.
17.根据前文“My research shows social and digital media use is already a major source of family conflict. Young people often pressure parents for devices or certain apps to keep in touch with their friends. So a government reason for the ban is to help parents manage this problem. 可知,前文说明禁令能帮助父母解决因社交媒体引发的家庭矛盾,此空应承接该内容,说明禁令对父母的具体帮助,D选项“It may be easier for them to say, “This is the law.”
18.根据前文“However, we still don’t know what will happen on December 10. Some experts argue young people may get around the ban, for example with apps that hide identity (身份). This calls for solutions. 以及后文“Because children are different, parents should act based on family values and a child’s individuality.
19.根据前文“Even so, if teens are used to social media and suddenly it’s gone, they may feel sad or angry, and parents will have to manage the results. Social media is not only mindless scrolling 以及后文“Therefore, they will need other ways to stay in touch, and parents should help them keep friendships. 故选A项。
20.根据后文“So parents should explain that less time on social media can reduce endless scrolling and cyberbullying (网络霸凌). 可知,后文建议父母向孩子解释禁令背后的原因,此空应作为该建议的前提,说明年轻人对有明确原因的规则接受度更高,F选项“Actually, young people respond better to rules when given a clear reason.

36.being 37.as 38.sits 39.the 40.to trouble
41.regularly 42.bushes 43.how 44.have seen 45.that/which
此处为固定搭配used to do sth.
46.

“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said. Her soft voice eased my lingering sadness. I looked up, my eyes still wet, and saw no disappointment in her face — only warmth. That afternoon, we walked slowly through the yard, and she didn’t mention the play again. Instead, she gently touched a dandelion and said, “Even the smallest flower has a story worth telling.” On the night of the performance, I stood behind the curtain, my heart racing. But when the spotlight found me, I opened my mouth bravely, and every word came out clear and true.
After the play, I headed home, rushing into the yard. The dandelions were still there, glowing softly in the fading light. I knelt down and picked one carefully, my fingers trembling slightly — not from fear, but from something deeper. Holding it against my chest, I felt the same flutter I had felt on stage weeks ago. But now, like the flower in my hand, I stood firm. I walked inside, found an old jar, and placed the dandelion inside. Sealing the lid, I whispered to myself: Not every flower needs to be a rose to leave a mark on the world.

Buy special offer tickets
From time to time there are deals running that offer cut price tickets. Sites like Groupon often sell bundles (套票) for the likes of Odeon and Vue that work out around £4 or £5 each. Other deals include National Cinema Day (usually in September) when all tickets are £3.

With two Olympic medals and two world skateboarding titles, 16-year-old Rayssa Leal has achieved what most people dream of. Her skills, paired with the joys she shows in skateparks, have brought her fans as well as public attention. But instead of talent and hard work, she shared that her support system made a big difference in landing her a medal at Paris 2024.
At the close of the run section of the eight-woman final, Leal had failed to put down a single clean line, lowering her hope of a top three finish. She knew the game wasn’t over, but the already heavy stress on Leal’s shoulders doubled in weight.
“After I screwed up the two runs, I thought I was not going to be able to do it anymore.” Leal shared her experience. It was then that she went and got support. Her family was there, and her whole team was there. Having received a hug from everyone and having heard very positive and encouraging words, she came back 100 percent, even more focused. That was what changed the game right there.
Re-energized, the teenager finished the last section with her very best. And though the gold and silver were out of her reach, she never backed down in the fight for bronze. When the last skater who could beat her failed the last run, Leal said she fell into a ton of feelings. “As soon as I realised that I was in third place, I broke down. My coach was there. We hugged each other, and we cried together. And all I could think was the most positive thoughts in the world.”
4.What played a major role in Leal’s success at Paris Olympics?
A.Effort. B.Skills. C.Support. D.Strategies.
5.What does the underlined phrase “screwed up” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Focused on. B.Did badly in. C.Took control of. D.Gave up.
6.What can be inferred about Leal’s attitude toward her third-place finish after the competition?
A.She was still disappointed about not winning gold.
B.She regretted she didn’t quit professional skating earlier.
C.She regarded her last failure as her coach’s responsibility.
D.She felt thankful to the support from her coach and family.
7.What lesson can be learned from Leal’s story?
A.Actions speak louder than words.
B.A little encouragement goes a long way.

When my teenage son became seriously ill, terrible times for my family began. Our once-happy home became tense and depressing. My husband and I were very tired under the great stress of caring for my son. It was as if we forgot how to communicate — we couldn’t have a simple conversation without fighting. Our marriage was on the point of breaking up.
One evening, my son and I were talking about gifts. I recalled my first Valentine’s present from my husband, a kazoo (a musical instrument). I was awkward when I received it because I couldn’t get it to make a sound although I am a professional saxophone player. However hard I tried, it just never worked. The kazoo eventually got packed away and forgotten. My son was interested and insisted on (坚持) seeing it. After some trouble, I found it.
“You couldn’t get a sound? What’s so hard about it?” my husband asked, amazed. He took the kazoo and blew. Nothing happened. Surprised, he tried again. Still there was no sound. Frustrated (懊恼的), he tried again, only to produce a funny sound like an angry bee trapped in the mouth of a bear. We burst into laughter. My son took a turn playing the kazoo. He did no better than us, causing more laughter.
Seeing his face light up, we felt as if the darkness had lifted and a little sunshine was let in. It was the best ten minutes of the past couple of years. The mood stayed light for the rest of the evening. It didn’t solve anything. But this experience with the kazoo brought some change in our hearts that always reminds us that there are still things to laugh at and enjoy, and that we can still connect as a family.

When my son was little, he liked to run in our driveway until he fell.
Years later, in middle school, this lesson returned. One night, my son told me about a classmate who had been unkind to him. My first reaction was to rush to fix it — email the parents, call the school, demand action. But instead of reacting, I paused. “That sounds hard. What did you do?”
“I decided not to hang out with him for a while,” my son replied. “I am going to try playing soccer at lunch instead.” “That’s a great solution,” I said, and he went back to his homework.
These ordinary parenting moments taught me an important truth: sometimes, the best thing a parent can do is doing nothing at all. Over 30 years in schools, too often I’ve watched parents overreacting, robbing their kids of the confidence that comes from struggling, and exhausting themselves in the process. Most Americans now believe that young people will not be better off than their parents. They see greater competition for fewer resources — be it college admissions, jobs, or housing. However, a young person who gets used to having a parent intervene on his behalf begins to believe that he’s not capable of acting on his own, feeling both anxiety and dependence.
I want to make a case for the Lighthouse Parent, a term that the educator has used. A lighthouse parent stands as a steady, reliable guide, providing safety and understanding without controlling every aspect of their child’s journey, like a lighthouse that helps sailors avoid crashing into rocks. The key is learning when to step back and enable them to find their own way.
12.What does the author want to tell with the example of his child falling?
A.Children should be prevented from taking risks.
B.Parents can feel exactly what their children feel.
C.Parents’ reaction influences children’s mental state.
D.Children would cry regardless of parental guidance.
13.What does the underlined word “intervene” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Cut in. B.Step in. C.Speak up. D.Break up.
14.What will Lighthouse Parents do when their child fears a school presentation?
A.Ask the child to report every step.
B.Guide the child to step back.
C.Instruct the child while letting him act.
D.Complete the task for the child.
15.What kind of parent is the author?
A.Creative and generous. B.Traditional and optimistic.
C.Energetic and flexible. D.Supportive and wise.

In just over a month, Australia will start a social media ban (禁令). From December 10, people under 16 will only be able to see public content on platforms (平台) such as Facebook and TikTok, and they will not be allowed to have their own accounts. 16 But many parents worry about how teens will respond.
My research shows social and digital media use is already a major source of family conflict. Young people often pressure parents for devices or certain apps to keep in touch with their friends. So a government reason for the ban is to help parents manage this problem. 17
However, we still don’t know what will happen on December 10. Some experts argue young people may get around the ban, for example with apps that hide identity (身份). This calls for solutions. 18 Because children are different, parents should act based on family values and a child’s individuality.
Even so, if teens are used to social media and suddenly it’s gone, they may feel sad or angry, and parents will have to manage the results. Social media is not only mindless scrolling (滚动屏幕). 19 Therefore, they will need other ways to stay in touch, and parents should help them keep friendships. Parents should also know that this change can be difficult.
20 So parents should explain that less time on social media can reduce endless scrolling and cyberbullying Yet the ban does not make kids 100 percent “safe” online: they may move to other spaces, and the ban covers only some platforms. So parents should keep talking about what children see and do online, help them build the ability to judge online information. Also, they need to stay interested and willing to guide their children instead of controlling everything.
A.It can help young people build connections.
B.Some safety experts and parents welcome this.
C.But there is no one right answer for every family.
D.It may be easier for them to say, “This is the law.”
E.It is sometimes hard to see eye to eye with each other.
F.Actually, young people respond better to rules when given a clear reason.
G.This is eating away at the close relationship between parents and children.

Mother’s gift
I grew up in a small town where it was a ten-minute walk from my house to the primary school. When the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.
When I was in the third grade, I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed my lines so hard with me. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped on the stage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白员的) part for the play, and asked me to change roles. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt me, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with a bit of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling it up by its roots. “From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful — even dandelions.”
My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it?” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Knowing that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and comforted me.
