To me, home is not just a place to live. It is where I feel warm and safe, full of love and support. It is where I learn responsibility and grow with my family.
My family and I all contribute to making our home comfortable. For example, I often clean the bathroom and look after our pets. On weekends, my parents cook delicious meals, and we sometimes decorate the room together by hanging up photos. These small actions make our home more beautiful and cozy.
I am truly grateful for my home. I hope it will always be a happy and loving place where everyone feels welcome and cared for.

Last month, our family decided to have a “Family Day”—a whole day without phones or computers, just spending time together. Dad thought of the idea after reading an article about the importance of family bonding.
In the morning, we worked together to decorate the backyard. Mum taught us how to do some gardening, and Dad showed us how to fix the broken bench. I pulled out the weeds, and my little sister carried water. It was tiring but fun to see our changes take shape.
After lunch, we played board games. At first, my brother cried because he kept losing, but we talked him into continuing (继续). Later, we looked through old family photos. Dad told stories about when he was young—like the time he fell off his bike and broke his arm!
In the evening, we cooked dinner together. I chopped vegetables, Mum stirred (搅拌) the soup, and Dad grilled (烤) the chicken. The food tasted delicious because we’d made it as a team. Before bed, we each wrote down one thing we treasure about our family.
That day taught me that true happiness isn’t from phones or computers. It’s from happy moments with the people who love you. I hope we have more Family Days—they make our family stronger. Do your family members often share conversations with each other during dinner? Or do you use phones at the table? If it’s the latter, you’re not alone. A new study by The Week Junior magazine has found that these conversations are not happening very often. This is mainly because people spend more time on screens, and families are also very busy.
The study carried out a survey of 2,000 families in the UK with children between 8 and 16 years old. Although many families say they sit down to enjoy a family meal every day, 77% of the parents also say they use phones at the dinner table. Just over half of children use their devices (设备) while they’re eating, and many say they like eating while watching TV. Children aren’t the only ones on their devices, though. The results found that 40% of the children have to ask their parents to put their phones down at the table.
Most of the children taking part in the survey want to have more conversations at the table. Lots of them enjoy discussing different topics, including what’s in the news and what’s happening on the school playground. Also,83% of the children say they prefer having these conversations with their parents face-to-face instead of over the phone.
Talking with family members is very important for children. ▲ . Dr Elizabeth Kilbey, a psychologist (心理学家) says family conversations during mealtimes strengthen relationships and build children’s confidence and communication skills.
Vanessa Harris, editor (编辑) of The Week Junior, agrees that conversations at the dinner table are really important for the whole family. “That’s why we have our ‘Something worth talking about’ activity,” she says. “We want to encourage all families to take time to talk.”
28.How does the writer lead into the topic?
A.By listing numbers. B.By giving examples.
C.By telling a story. D.By asking questions.

Use phones at the dinner table. Do not use phones at the dinner table.

②The Dream Recorder, created by the Dutch design studio Modem, is a bedside device on which you can record your dreams and then turn them into videos.
③The idea is that as soon as you wake up, you turn on the Dream Recorder and speak into it—in any language—describing what you remember of your dream. AI technology will then process your spoken dream and create a short video according to it in a visual (可视的) style of your choice. You can then play back this video on the Dream Recorder’s screen.

⑤However, the faces, for example, appear unclear, so that you do not see someone who matches your memory. And, like our own mind, Dream Recorder “Forgets”: It keeps dreams for at most one week, taking the place of the old ones with the new ones.
⑥Thanks to the Dream Recorder, these videos can be used to help us think about the meaning of our dreams and how they might make a difference to our waking life.
⑦Besides, the Dream Recorder is also an exciting idea where AI meets human creativity. It shows how technology can help us explore our thoughts and feelings. While many devices today focus on measuring our physical health, the Dream Recorder suggests a different way: using technology to improve creativity and self-understanding.

31.Which opinion might Vanessa Harris agree with?
A.Reading The Week Junior is a good idea.
B.Working hard helps us make things better.
C.It’s children’s duty to take good care of their parents.
D.It is important to talk with family members at the table.

①A terrible dream can make you wake up and make you think about life. But within minutes, it disappears from your mind. Did you ever wish you could show your dreams to your friends or family? Now you might be able to, with the help of the new device—the Dream Recorder.
④The Dream Recorder is a do-it-yourself (DIY) device that you can build yourself. All the instructions and code (代码) are available online. All you need to do is buy or 3D print what you need to make it. The cost should come to around $333.
32.What happens after you record your dream with the device?
A.The dream will be kept in the device forever.
B.AI will process your description and create a video.
C.You need to send the recording to Modem to get the video.
D.The device will directly show your dream as a video at once.
33.What is the purpose of this passage?
A.To tell us how to treat sleeping problems with AI.
B.To teach readers how to build a Dream Recorder.
C.To show how dreams make a difference to waking life.
D.To introduce a new AI device that turns dreams into videos.
34.Who is the device probably fit for?
A.A scientist who studies languages.
B.A teenager who likes DIY and sharing dreams.

Hi Susan,
My grandma and I live together. Her room is always tidy and clean. She says I have to tidy my room every weekend. Is that really necessary? I think a little mess is fine. What should I do?
Tina
Hi Tina,
I agree with your grandma. Keeping your room clean is important. Here’s why: It helps you stay healthy and happy. You should do housework every week. I also know it is tiring. We all want to relax on the weekend, right?
I clean a little each day. I do one part of the house on one day, and another part on a different day. In this way, it doesn’t feel like too much work at once.

We all felt sad when Family Day ended, but finally we could do it again next month. That special day created a wonderful memory we’ll remember forever.

①A terrible dream can make you wake up and make you think about life. But within minutes, it disappears from your mind. Did you ever wish you could show your dreams to your friends or family? Now you might be able to, with the help of the new device—the Dream Recorder.
④The Dream Recorder is a do-it-yourself (DIY) device that you can build yourself. All the instructions and code (代码) are available online. All you need to do is buy or 3D print what you need to make it. The cost should come to around $333.
C.An old man who has problems using a computer.
D.A teacher who wants to learn about 3D printing skills.

We often hear a parent shout, “Tidy your room.” A study shows that a tidy living space is really important for our happiness. However, sometimes a bit of mess might mean someone is creative. So, is it OK to have a messy bedroom? This question has become a hot topic online these days.Yes—it’s not a big deal
It is important for kids to have their own space. This way, they can do what they like. When parents let kids keep their rooms as they want, they are helping kids get ready for their later life. Also, cleaning up rooms is a waste of time. There are more important things to do, like studies and hobbies. Anyway, the room will probably get messy again soon. No—mess causes bad feelings
A study shows that in a messy room, you can’t focus on things like homework. A tidy room helps you think clearly. What’s more, some dangers may happen in a messy room—you can fall down or knock (碰撞) something down and break it. A tidy room gives you more space to move around.
In my opinion, if you don’t live with others, you can live as you want. But keeping your space clean and tidy is an important life skill. If your room is messy, it’s not fair (公平的) to other family members because it’s part of their home too, and we should respect that.
