Do you have some friends you call as soon as you have exciting news to share? Or the ones who notice when you’re feeling down? Those are your close friends. Not every friend you have is a close friend—and that’s okay.
Studies show that most people can have only a few close friends because of limited time and energy. Psychologist (心理学家) Robin Dunbar points out that most people have around five close friends. Another study by Suzanne Degges-White finds that having three to six close friends makes people happiest. It also finds that having more than six close friends doesn’t make people feel much happier.
But friendships aren’t just about closeness. According to a study by Jan Yager, you might have 25 or more casual friends, like classmates, neighbours, or other people you know from everyday life. Because no one person can meet all your needs, having different kinds of friends helps in many ways. They can take some pressure off you and provide a safety net when you lose important friends. What’s more, they can also come up with new ideas—some may surprise you.
There are no hard and fast rules on how many close or casual friends you should have, so don’t worry if you have more or less. Some people have more than ten close friends, while others are happy with just one or two. What matters most is how you feel. If you’re happy with your friendships, then you have enough. Just trust your own feelings.
24.What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To tell us what close friends are. B.To show how to make close friends.

26.What are the good points of having different kinds of friends?

①Do you know Chuanjiang boating songs? Can you sing them? The boating songs are a kind of folk music, there are 14 songs recorded now. They are the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)and a symbol of Chongqing.
②Do you know the history of the songs? In the past, the boatmen were poor and they had a hard life so they pulled (拉) the boats to make a living. At that time pulling boats wasn’t an easy job for them. The river ran too quickly for boats, so it was difficult for them to work well.
③What’s more, to make sure boatmen could move the boats in the same way, they sang something when pulling the boats. When they sang the songs, they felt more excited and they were full of power to move the boats. Later, these songs became more popular, and people called them Chuanjiang boating songs or Chuanjiang Haozi. This is the history of the songs.

The job needed a lot of power and they would feel tired, so they sang Shangshui Haozi to pull the boat more easily. When they went downstream (向下游), they sang Xiashui Haozi. Because the river ran too quickly, it was dangerous and difficult. They sang it together to cheer themselves up.
⑤What are the spirits (精神) behind Chuanjiang boating songs? They have great meaning to people in Chongqing. They also tell us the importance of teamwork (团队合作). 阅读下文并回答问题。
Who are your close friends at school? Do you think that everyone should have a “close friend”? Some students share their opinions on the 21st Century Teens Junior’s website (网站).
Liu He, 13 years old
I think having friends is important for everyone. However, you can decide how many close friends you need. Friendship is like a cup of hot chocolate. Some people enjoy sharing it with many, while other people like drinking it with just one or two.
Besides, it’s not important to have someone on the same road with you. More importantly, you need to become a better and happier self along the way. You can have many close friends, or just a few, as long as (只要) you feel happy and meaningful.
Ella, 14 years old
There’s a saying: “If you have friends who know your heart, distance cannot keep you apart (海内存知己,天涯若比邻).” I think this is true. Having a close or true friend is very important. My best friend is different from me, but we often think alike. Besides, when I’m sad about my grades, she stays with me and encourages me to do better next time. Friendship is about helping each other, sharing happiness, and cheering each other on (加油).
Li Yue, 13 years old
I think it’s important to have a close friend at school. He or she can be there with you and listen to you. However, it’s hard to find a best friend. So try to make different kinds of friends and share different things with each of them.
Think of yourself as a magnetic puzzle (磁性拼图). Friends are the magnets (磁铁). Great friends stick (粘) well, and your best friend sticks the best. Each of my friends can teach me something special and make me happy. We help each other grow.
41.Does Li Yue think we should make different kinds of friends?
42.What does Liu He compare (比喻) friendship to?
43.What do the three students’ opinions have in common?
44.What do you think of their opinions on friendship and why? Choose one to reply.(About 25 words)

As we know, friendship is of great importance in our life. Although friendship may mean something different from one country to another, people from all over the world think sharing something with their friends is a good way to make them happier.
Many studies show that people are more likely to forget their problems and feel better if they spend time with their friends. It’s sure that we are all parts of society. We all need friends. But our friends make a difference to us in different ways.

C.To explain why people need close friends. D.To compare close friends and casual friends.
25.Why do most people have only a few close friends?
A.They would like to have more casual friends.
B.They can’t feel happier with more close friends.
C.They think it’s right to have about five close friends.
D.They don’t have enough time or energy to have more.
26.What are the good points of having different kinds of friends?
①You can feel less pressure.
②You can get some surprising ideas.
③You can get all kinds of support and help.
④You can make sure you won’t lose close friends.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
27.Which idea does the writer most likely agree with?
A.Almost all people have more than 25 casual friends.
B.People need more than 6 close friends to keep happy.
C.Close friends are more important than casual friends.
D.The right number of friends is different for each person.
【答案】24.A 25.D 26.A 27.D

27.观点态度题。根据“There are no hard and fast rules on how many close or casual friends you should have, so don’t worry if you have more or less.”可知,作者最可能同意的观点是:每个人的朋友数量因人而异。故选D。

When the clock turned one, a light appeared in the room. Scrooge jumped up from his bed, and found himself face to face with a ghost, the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Scrooge looked at it with his eyes wide open. It was very strange. Its long hair was white like an old man’s, but there were no wrinkles on its face. It wore a white tunic (袍子).
When the Ghost took Scrooge and flew towards the window of the second floor, he was afraid. “I’m a mortal (凡人),” said Scrooge, “I’ll fall.”
The Ghost laid its hand on Scrooge’s heart and said, “You won’t fall!”
As it spoke, they passed through the window. And they stood on a country road.
“Good Heavens!” said Scrooge, as he looked around. “I grew up here. I was a boy here!”
They walked along the road. And Scrooge remembered every tree and every gate. All these boys were happy and shouting to each other. A feeling of nostalgia filled his heart
“They are only shadows (幻影),” said the Ghost. “They can’t see us.”
Scrooge knew all the boys and he looked at them with smiles. They were all his classmates. But why was he so happy to see them? Why was he happy when they called Merry Christmas to each other?
“The school is not quite empty,” said the Ghost. “One child is still there.”
“I know,” said Scrooge with tears in his eyes.
They soon came to a long, empty classroom. At one of the desks, a lonely boy was reading a book. Scrooge sat down on a bench and cried.
He sat there for a long time.
“I wish back then, I could just run out and enjoy the Christmas with my classmates,” Scrooge said, after drying his eyes with his sleeve, “but it’s too late now.”
“What’s the matter?” asked the Ghost
“Nothing,” said Scrooge. “There was a boy singing a Christmas carol (颂歌) at my door last night. I would like to give him some money now. But it’s too late.”

A.They would like to have more casual friends.
B.They can’t feel happier with more close friends.

26.What are the good points of having different kinds of friends?
①You can feel less pressure.

③You can get all kinds of support and help.
④You can make sure you won’t lose close friends.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④

A.Almost all people have more than 25 casual friends.
B.People need more than 6 close friends to keep happy.
