now that“既然”、even if“即使”、so that“以便”均不表示时间先后。
上文时间是“At about 10:00 p.m.” wake up“醒来”、come back“回来”、sit down“坐下”均与睡觉的语境不符。

in“在……里面”、on“在……

When I volunteered in Mexico, I met a little girl. When I checked on someone’s teeth with Dr. Sussi, I saw her holding a toy, talking and laughing with her friend. Dr. Sussi told me, “When she was 3 years old, her house was on fire. She was found and immediately sent to the hospital. Luckily, she was saved but some scars (疤痕) were left on her body.”
I was startled that a little girl went through so much. I walked closer and saw her scars. To be honest, I was a little afraid to look at her. But her eyes were so innocent (纯真) that she made me feel she was a pretty girl.
Dr. Sussi told me that her mom took her to the clinic (诊所) to play with the volunteers there every weekend. It is probably the only place that she can be treated the same as other kids. Perhaps we can play with her and encourage her. She might not remember the time she spent with us in the clinic when she grew up. Have you ever heard of the avalanche (雪崩)? The avalanche is a kind of sudden natural disaster like the earthquake. During an avalanche, a lot of snow and ice rush down the mountain. As they rush, the snow and ice move faster and faster. In fact, the snow in an avalanche can move as fast as two hundred miles an hour. That is almost three times faster than a car on the highway!
Most avalanches happen after big storms. In the mountains like the Alps and the Himalayas, there is snow and ice all year round. After big storms, new snow puts more pressure (压力) on the old snow. It can make the old snow rush down.
Avalanches are very dangerous. Heavy snow moving down the mountains may pull trees and rocks along. That can cause great damage, such as pushing over houses and killing people. Luckily, no one lives in the mountains where avalanches often happen. Not many people die from avalanches each year.
Most people who may lose their lives in avalanches are skiers (滑雪者). It’s important for them to stay safe while having fun in the snowy mountains. Scientists can usually tell whether (是否) an avalanche might happen or not. If you are a skier, remember to pay attention to scientists’ warnings before you go skiing.
47. Which word best describes the snow in an avalanche according to Paragraph 1?
A. Slow. B. Fast. C. Rare. D. Common.

该段小标题为“When to get to your neighbor’s home”,主要讲述拜访时间。 D选项“But usually it’s a good idea to get there at the right time.”
G选项“Often it’s nice to take something to your neighbor’s house.”
A选项“Please call them Mr. or Mrs.”介于知道名字和表示尊重之间,符合语境逻辑,且与后文的“madam or sir”相呼应。
E选项“and then you will be welcomed again.”

I always wonder how much I can do for others. When I worked as a volunteer, I understood the power of serving people.
When I volunteered in Mexico, I met a little girl. When I checked on someone’s teeth with Dr. Sussi, I saw her holding a toy, talking and laughing with her friend. Dr. Sussi told me that her mom took her to the clinic (诊所) to play with the volunteers there every weekend. It is probably the only place that she can be treated the same as other kids.
