A flush toilet (抽水马桶) from more than 2,000 years ago? Does that sound real? Believe it or not, Chinese researchers say it’s true!

Liu Rui, a member of the research team, said, “This is the first and only ancient flush toilet ever found in China. When we saw it, everyone on our team was shocked at first. Then we all started laughing—we just couldn’t help it!”
Researchers said this toilet was a luxurious thing. They guessed it was put inside a palace. It may have been used by Duke Xiao of Qin or his father, Duke Xian of Qin. Liu also said that the toilet was probably set up indoors. It was connected to a hole outside, so waste could be carried away.
In fact, there are many old records about toilets in ancient China. Some other ancient toilets have been found too. ①Have you heard of Shennong, a legendary (传说中的) ruler in ancient China about 5,000 years ago? He could know what plants do to human bodies because he had a transparent belly (透明的肚子). After eating plants, he could see what was going on inside. This way, he found plants that were good for people’s health. And now, scientists may have found a way for everyone to see through his or her skin.
②In a recent study, scientists at Stanford University in the US used a yellow food dye (染料) to make the skin of a mouse transparent for a while. People often use this dye in snack foods and candies.
③In the study, scientists took off the fur of some mice and put the dye on their skin. After a while, they could see through mice’s brains and see how food moves through their bodies. “It takes them a few minutes for the transparency to appear.” said one of the scientists, Zihao Ou. After they washed away the dye, the skin looked normal again. The dye doesn’t hurt animals.
④When scientists mix this dye with water and put it on the mice’s skin, it turns the water under the skin into something more like proteins and fats. The skin then scatters (散射) less light. The less light things scatter, the more transparent they look. That’s why the skin looks transparent. It’s like how things become clearer when the fog goes away.

Should we use artificial intelligence (AI) in schools? Some people may say no, but many experts think we should use it in a good way. They say AI can help us learn better.
Zheng Qinghua, president of Tongji University, said it was important for us to use AI in education. He believed that AI could help us learn new things and get better at what we study. He also suggested that young people should improve their understanding of the knowledge through technology.
In fact, AI has already become more and more important for teaching and learning. Zheng talked about the common use of different AI tools. These AI tools can help with students’ homework. A survey made by an online learning platform (平台) showed that 89 percent of students had used AI tools to help them with homework.
However, some people worry that it may bring bad influence on education. “Instead of just using AI to get answers or finish homework and tests, students should focus on using AI to become creative and develop the ability to solve real-world problems,” said Zheng.
Colin Bailey, president of Queen Mary University of London, says that as AI develops fast, stopping AI from being used in schools is not the answer. The very first Disney theme park was built in Anaheim, California, in the United States. Construction (建设) on this first Disneyland started on July 16, 1954, and it opened to visitors on July 17, 1955. Sadly, the opening day had a lot of trouble. Nowadays, there are lots of theme parks people can go to. But what makes Disneyland so special? First of all, it was the first theme park like this in the world. Both kids and adults can have a good time there.

A flush toilet (抽水马桶) from more than 2,000 years ago? Does that sound real? Believe it or not, Chinese researchers say it’s true!
Not long ago, a group of Chinese scientists found some broken pieces of an old flush toilet. It’s about 2,400 years old, and they think it might be the oldest one in the world.
