It is no surprise that getting enough sleep, exercising and eating well are important to a longer life. But it was unknown how very small lifestyle changes affect our longevity and health. To fill this gap in our knowledge, Koemel and his coworkers analyzed sleep, dietary and physical activity data from nearly 60,000 adults, aged between 40 and 69, from the UK Biobank project. The participants completed surveys that asked them to recall how often they ate various types of food, such as fresh fruit or meat, over the past year — with their diets being ranked from poor to healthy in the range of 0 to 100. A few years later, they wore movement trackers on their wrists for a week to measure their exercise and sleeping habits, and their death and health records were tracked over a follow-up period of eight years. Using these measurements, the researchers found the bottom 5 percent of participants with the least healthy lifestyles; they slept for around 5 hours per day, engaged in about 5 minutes of physical activity daily and scored about 35 on the dietary, on average. The researchers then used a model to assess that, compared with those least-healthy participants, those who slept for about 5 minutes more each day, engaged in exercise for about 2 minutes longer and ate an extra half-portion (半份) of vegetables daily lived for a year longer, on average. But the study has some limitations. For instance, dietary recall surveys tend to contain errors because people forget what they have eaten, and it’s impossible to know whether a week of physical activity or sleep data is representative of someone’s typical habits, says Allan Cohen at Columbia University in New York. 1.What is the purpose of Koemel’s study? A.To introduce a good exercise habit. B.To find out why people need enough sleep. C.To teach people how to keep a healthy diet. D.To study the impact of small lifestyle changes. 2.According to the study, who tends to live a longer life? A.People who exercise about 7 minutes a day. B.People who sleep about 4.5 hours every day. C.People who eat an extra portion of meat daily. D.People who score about 35 on the dietary scale. 3.What might the author continue talking about? A.Different views on vegetable intake. B.Further research to confirm the findings. C.Effective methods to use exercise trackers. D.Practical suggestions to improve daily diets. People only exhibit their best moments on social media. Some celebrities are airbrushed (美化) or hide the truth of their plastic surgery. Many people photoshop their faces and bodies to look exactly how they want. 1 It seems that all the people are in pursuit of presenting their best images. Beyond these “best images”, some social media heavily promote eating disorder culture and unhealthy attitudes about food and weight in general. Some social media also promote over-exercising. 2 However, pushing yourself too hard can be harmful and contributes to some eating disorders. When someone is exercising a lot, they need to eat more to fuel their body, but some people are often eating less than they should while pushing their bodies beyond the limit. 3 Basically, people who struggle with eating disorders tend to think that they aren’t “sick enough”. If they encounter others with eating disorders, they constantly compare themselves. Thus, people, using social media, need to avoid posting videos or pictures with body checking, constant weighing, or calorie counting. This type of content simply isn’t helpful for anyone. So if you feel like you need to lose weight, discuss it with your doctor and make a personalized plan. 4 As for me, I’ve learned a lot from my own struggle with an eating disorder. During my treatment, the most striking thing my nutritionist said to me was, “ 5 ” She’s absolutely right. Self-love isn’t always realistic; self-acceptance is much better. A.You need to love your body. B.Take yourself as what you are. C.Indeed, proper exercising is healthy. D.A lot of the actual photos are straight-up fake. E.There are countless methods of changing their bodies. F.Don’t listen to strangers who don’t know you or your body. G.It’s essential to avoid posting things that could cause body image issues. 二、完形填空(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) 16-year-old Mia Carter, a student from New York’s Brooklyn district, used to be obsessed with the “ideal body” images on social media. ignore the teacher’s advice about learning methods may ________________ (最终处于;到头来) falling far behind their classmates in the final exam. 表示“最终处于;到头来”用短语end up,end up doing“最终做某事”是固定搭配,情态动词may后end用原形。故填end up。 6.___________________ (事实证明) a young scientist named Will Smith has invented a kind of advanced and intelligent robot.(it作形式主语) 【答案】It is proved that 【详解】考查固定句型。 故填It is proved that。 7.________ (不是每件事都达到了) Zhang Tian’s hopes. Not everything lived up to/Not everything met 【详解】考查不定代词和动词短语。 Not everything lived up to/Not everything met。 8.In the dormitory, we should avoid whispering loudly to prevent disturbing others’ study, as maintaining a quiet environment ________ (有助于高效学习) . 9.So if you have trouble getting a good night’s sleep, ________ (也许是时候在生活方式上做出改变了). 【答案】it might be time to make some changes in your lifestyle 【详解】考查固定句型和动词短语。 根据汉语提示可知,此处表示“也许是时候做某事了”可用固定句型it is time to do sth.,此处根据语境用might表示推测,即it might be time to do sth.,“做出改变”为动词短语make some changes;“在生活方式上”译为in your lifestyle。故填it might be time to make some changes in your lifestyle。 10.Major tomato fields have been destroyed by insects, ________ (导致) a nationwide shortage and escalating prices. 【答案】leading to/resulting in/contributing to 【详解】考查动词短语和非谓语动词。 故填leading to/resulting in/contributing to。 If it is possible, we should plant more trees to take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. _____________________________________________________________________________. If possible, we should plant more trees to take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen 【详解】句意:如果可能的话,我们应该种植更多的树木来吸收二氧化碳并释放氧气。 He was known for this achievement, and for it he received a Nobel Prize. _____________________________________________________________________________. He was known for this achievement, for which he received a Nobel Prize 【详解】句意:他因这一成就而闻名,并因此获得了诺贝尔奖。 He was known for this achievement, for which he received a Nobel Prize。 3.These seemingly ordinary efforts gradually accumulate into great strength. (强调主语) _____________________________________________________________________________. It is these seemingly ordinary efforts that gradually accumulate into great strength. It is these seemingly ordinary efforts that gradually accumulate into great strength,时态为一般现在时,对主语These seemingly ordinary efforts 进行强调。故填It is these seemingly ordinary efforts that gradually accumulate into great strength. 4.The organization has taken effective steps to protect the wild animals.(用被动语态改写) _____________________________________________________________________________. Effective steps have been taken (by the organization) to protect the wild animals. 原句为主动语态,主语为The organization,谓语为has taken,宾语为effective steps,现在要求用被动语态改写句子,那么句子主语应改为原句的宾语effective steps,谓语部分需用have been taken,原句主语The organization在被动语态中可以省略或用介词by引出,即by the organization。 Effective steps have been taken (by the organization) to protect the wild animals. 5.I strongly believe that teenagers shouldn’t have plastic surgery. (同位语从句改写) _____________________________________________________________________________. I strongly hold the view that teenagers shouldn’t have plastic surgery. hold the view意为“认为”。 I strongly hold the view that teenagers shouldn’t have plastic surgery. 6.My favorite hobbies are reading books and newspapers. They have become a necessary part of my daily life. (同义句转换) The reason _____ ______ ______ diligently to rescue the bronze object is that they wanted to preserve it for the next generation. The reason why scientists worked diligently to rescue the bronze object is that they wanted to preserve it for the next generation. 故填①why;②scientists;③worked。 9.They were talking in a whisper, so they seemed to be saying something secret.(将画线部分改为复合句) →They were talking in a whisper, so ______________. 【答案】it seemed that they were saying something secret 【详解】考查代词it和主语从句。 “seem to be...”可以用“it seems that...”替换,it是形式主语,that引导主语从句,原句是一般过去时,转换后的句子也用一般过去时,to be doing是不定式的进行时,故that引导从句用过去进行时,故填it seemed that they were saying something secret。 10. I believe every one is sure to receive an unexpected joy. →(同位语从句) _____________________________________________________________________________. I hold the firm belief that every one is bound to receive an unexpected joy. 表示“一定会……”,可用be bound to do sth.。 I hold the firm belief that every one is bound to receive an unexpected joy。 三、用单词的适当形式填空(共10小题,每小题1.5分,共15分) 1.With great regret, I’m writing to tell you that the Sichuan Opera performance (schedule) for 7:30 p.m. next Saturday has been cancelled. 2.A family member is returning from a year-long trip, and you are meeting her at the airport. (concern) about the exam result, she can hardly fall asleep, lying in bed awake. 4.I hope my suggestions will contribute to (solve) the problem. 5.The mission, (schedule) for launch around 2028, aims to bring Martian samples back to Earth by around 2031. 6. (immediate) he heard the news, he rushed to the scene to offer help to the victims. 7.Each builds a body of knowledge content consists of general laws, principles, and generalizations describing how facts, trends, and observations are related 【答案】whose 【详解】句意:每一个都构建了一个知识体系,其内容由描述事实、趋势和观察如何相互关联的一般法则、原理和概括组成。 8.It has been p (prove) that eating vegetables in childhood helps to protect you against serious illnesses in later life. 9. 根据第一段“But it was unknown how very small lifestyle changes affect our longevity and health.(但此前人们并不清楚,非常微小的生活方式改变会如何影响我们的寿命与健康。)”和第二段“To fill this gap in our knowledge, Koemel and his coworkers analyzed sleep, dietary and physical activity data from nearly 60,000 adults, aged between 40 and 69, from the UK Biobank project.(为了填补这一知识空白,Koemel和他的同事分析了来自英国生物银行项目的近6万名40至69岁成年人的睡眠、饮食和身体活动数据)”可知,Koemel开展这项研究的目的就是探究微小的生活方式改变对健康和寿命的影响。 2. 根据第三段“Using these measurements, the researchers found the bottom 5 percent of participants with the least healthy lifestyles; they slept for around 5 hours per day, engaged in about 5 minutes of physical activity daily and scored about 35 on the dietary, on average.(通过这些测量,研究人员发现,生活方式最不健康的5%的参与者;他们每天睡眠约5小时,每天进行约5分钟的体育活动,平均饮食得分约为35分。)”和第四段“compared with those least-healthy participants, those who slept for about 5 minutes more each day, engaged in exercise for about 2 minutes longer and ate an extra half-portion (半份) of vegetables daily lived for a year longer, on average.(与生活方式最不健康的参与者相比,那些每天多睡约5分钟、多做约2分钟运动、每天多吃半份蔬菜的人,平均寿命要长一年)”可知,最不健康组日均运动约为5分钟,日均运动多约2分钟的人更倾向于更长寿,所以日均运动约7分钟的人更可能长寿。 3. 根据最后一段“But the study has some limitations. For instance, dietary recall surveys tend to contain errors because people forget what they have eaten, and it’s impossible to know whether a week of physical activity or sleep data is representative of someone’s typical habits(但该研究存在一些局限性。 People only exhibit their best moments on social media. Some social media also promote over-exercising. If they encounter others with eating disorders, they constantly compare themselves. So if you feel like you need to lose weight, discuss it with your doctor and make a personalized plan. 4.根据上文“So if you feel like you need to lose weight, discuss it with your doctor and make a personalized plan. 5.根据后文“Self-love isn’t always realistic; self-acceptance is much better. 二、完形填空(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) 16-year-old Mia Carter, a student from New York’s Brooklyn district, used to be obsessed with the “ideal body” images on social media.
