New rules and behavior standards (行为规范) for school students came out in March. Middle schools are going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students won’t only have high marks (分数). They will also be kids who don’t dye their hair, smoke or drink. The following are some of the new rules.
Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone else’s work on an exam? Don’t do it again! That’s not something an honest student should do. If you have played computer games for two hours in your room, don’t tell your parents you have done homework.
Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is Bird-Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join! That way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them, When more people work together, it makes it more fun for everyone.
Have you ever quarreled with your teammates when your basketball team lost? Only working together can make your team stronger. Be friendly to the people you are with. Try to think of others, not only yourself.
Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you’ll discover another Earth someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. Everyone’s ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.
Protect yourself. Has someone ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don’t let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should let your parents know.
Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for your studies. But some things on the Internet aren’t for kids. So try to look at web pages that are good for you. You can use the web for fun or homework. Can’t you find any good websites for children? Here are some: http://kids.eastday.com http://www.chinakids.net.com http://www.cycnet.com
24. The school’s new rules will help kids by telling them ________.
A. how they can study well
B. what they should do at school

25. According to the passage, which of the following is not true?
A. Take care of yourself when you are out.
B. Tell the truth, even when you are wrong.
C. Keep some animals to protect them.
26. Good websites for children can ________.
A. be a waste of time
B. help them with their studies
C. do homework for them
27. The passage tells us how to ________.
A. be top students B. do more at school C. care for others

Should modern buildings be built next to old buildings, especially in a historic part of a city? In order to answer this question, we first need to think about whether people really want to keep the old-time feel of the place. Not all old buildings look nice. However, we sometimes have to keep them. One of the reasons is money. Let’s assume (假设) that most people think old buildings are both beautiful and important. Then, what should we do if a new building is needed?
In someone’s view, both new and old building styles can live together well. There are many good examples in the world. Modern designs (设计) have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. If a new building looks good and doesn’t overshadow (遮蔽) its neighbors, it can make the area more beautiful.
In other people’s view, they speak against new buildings in historic areas. Do you know the reason? The reason is a fact. It is true that some new buildings seem to make a mess in the area, but some old buildings do too. The two kinds of buildings can’t fit each other. People are against it just because they don’t like change.
We should respect people’s feelings, but it is the designers’ duty to move things forward. If we just keep the things in the old way, we cannot make progress. Copying old styles is not the right choice, so why not try some new and different things? Although it might be a risky choice, it’s important to go on and create something fresh.
28. Why do we sometimes have to keep old buildings?
A. Because all old buildings are beautiful.
B. Because we keep old buildings for money.
C. Because people always prefer old buildings.
29. Which word describes the author’s attitude to the mix of new and old buildings?
A. Unclear. B. Hopeless. C. Positive.
30. What does the underlined phrase “move things forward” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Choose new building styles.
B. Put things in a different place.
C. Respect people’s feelings for old buildings.
31. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To warn. B. To discuss. C. To introduce.

How to Use Mobile Phones Properly
Nowadays, mobile phones are very popular in our daily life. However, as students, we should use them properly.
Here are my suggestions. First, we shouldn’t spend too much time playing games on mobile phones, which is bad for our eyes. Second, we’d better use them to search for useful information for our study. Third, it’s a good idea to communicate with our family on phones.
As for me, I usually use my mobile phone to listen to music to relax myself on weekends. I also use it to read news.
In short, mobile phones are helpful if we use them correctly.
