My favourite painter
My favourite painter is Xu Beihong, a Chinese painter born in 1895. He was an artist who was most famous in the first half of the 20th century.
Xu began studying painting when he was very young. He quickly became an expert at traditional Chinese painting. He also travelled a great deal and studied art in Japan and France. Studying art in the West had a big influence on him. He believed that traditional Chinese painting would lose some of its importance if painters stopped trying new methods. Therefore he became interested in creating new styles of art that mixed traditional Chinese and Western methods.
Xu often painted animals, especially horses and birds. My favourite painting of his is Ten Horses in Spring Mountains. I love the horses in this painting because they look so free and full of energy. If you like beautiful paintings of animals, you will certainly love Xu’s works.
