Read the post. How did Chen Lei develop his love of reading?
My love of books comes from my mother. Books are her classroom and teacher, and through books she has become the wise and smart person I know.
Because of my mother's love of reading, our home is full of books on different subjects. When I was a child, my mother sat me on her knee, told me stories, and taught me how to read. Soon, I was reading by myself, and I found children's books no longer kept me interested.

So I started reading my books and magazines— especially popular science books and books about the lives of famous people. After dinner, I would just pick out a book from the shelf to read in my room. Reading opened up new worlds and allowed me to discover new things for myself. I think that reading is great fun.
Now that I am older, I can always find time to read in the school library. I believe that reading has helped me a lot with my schoolwork and made me more confident about my future.

Chen Lei says his mother "became wise and smart" through books. Do you agree that reading can make a person wise? Why or why not?
Chen Lei found children's books "no longer kept me interested" and moved to harder books. Have you ever felt the same way? What kinds of books interest you now?
Chen Lei believes reading helped him with schoolwork and his future. In what ways do you think reading helps you?
How Reading Has Shaped Me
I strongly agree with Chen Lei that reading can make a person wise. His mother learned from books and became smart, which shows that knowledge really does change a person. I have seen the same thing in my own life – my grandfather reads history books every day, and he always gives me deep and thoughtful advice.
Chen Lei said children's books no longer kept him interested, and I felt exactly the same way. When I was about 12, I stopped reading picture books and started reading mystery novels and science magazines. Now I enjoy reading adventure stories and books about space exploration. They make me think and imagine.
Like Chen Lei, I believe reading helps me with school. My vocabulary has improved a lot, and I can understand difficult texts more easily. It also gives me confidence because I feel I know more about the world. Reading is not just a hobby for me – it is a way to grow.

Here are some tips from Chen Lei's experience on how to develop a love of reading:
Create a reading environment – Fill your home with books on different subjects.
Get guidance from family – Let someone read stories to you and teach you how to read at an early age.
Start reading on your own – Try to read by yourself as soon as you can.
Expand your reading materials – Don't just read children's books; try newspapers, magazines, and other books.
5.Find your interests – Explore different types, like science books or biographies, to find what you enjoy most.
6.Set a regular time – Read at a fixed time every day, such as after dinner.
7.Keep it up – Always find time to read, no matter where you are (e.g., at home or in the library).
8.Enjoy it – Remember that reading is great fun, not a chore.

My Reading Habits
My love of reading comes from my grandfather. Because of him, I grew up in a house where books were everywhere — on the shelves, on the desk, and even in the living room. When I was little, my grandfather used to read aloud to me every evening before bed. He would point to the words with his finger and slowly teach me to recognize them. Soon, I was able to read simple picture books all by myself.

As I grew older, I found that storybooks were no longer challenging enough. So I began to explore different kinds of reading materials, such as history books, travel guides, and even cookbooks! I especially enjoy reading about ancient civilizations and space exploration. These topics make me feel like I am traveling through time and space. Every night before going to sleep, I spend at least 30 minutes reading in bed. It has become a relaxing ritual for me.
Now that I am in middle school, I often go to the school library during lunch breaks to read. I also borrow two or three books every week to take home. Sometimes I read e-books on my tablet when I am on the bus, but I still prefer print books because I love the feeling of turning real pages. I believe that reading has not only improved my vocabulary and writing skills but also opened my mind to different cultures and ideas. To me, reading is not just a hobby — it is a lifelong journey of discovery.
