But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked me how many “likes” it had got. His question was a wake-up call. “Likes” are signs of acceptance and approval(赞同). I had forgotten that acceptance and approval need to come from within and had unknowingly set him a bad example. Before absorbed in Facebook, I spent a lot more time reading books and magazines. I checked in with friends through texts, emails and phone calls. To set a healthier example to my son, I deactivated my Facebook account. I’d been in the habit of checking Facebook many times a day, so I had to come up with some new habits. I carried a novel and a crossword puzzle book around with me. I rediscovered knitting. I started taking yoga classes. I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is. I have friends who will help me out when I’m in trouble, and I will help them out. I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is happy and healthy. We are very lucky to be able to afford two vacations a year. I stopped looking at the world through my cellphone. I felt completely present in the moment. The break left me feeling better about myself, my family, my home and my life. After a few weeks, I returned to Facebook. Now I look at the photos of my friends’ kids growing up and treasure how social media allows me to keep in touch with family. I no longer have the desire to post updates often. It is not an addiction(上瘾) any more. 41. What made the author begin to realize she should do something to control her time on Facebook? A. Her poor health. B. Her son’s question. C. Over the past four decades, more than 450 butterfly species have been affected by threats from climate change. In the US alone, the monarch butterfly has seen a drop of 80%, from millions of them recorded by scientists in the 1980s to only 29,000 in 2020; in 2017 scientists in Germany raised alarm bells after stressing that insects had decreased (减少) by more than 70% in 30 years. Leading environmental organizations have been working hard to find new ways of tracking butterflies. Now, there is no long-term data available to develop effective strategies in those areas where the threat is particularly widespread. The scientists also wanted to say the big problem that long-term monitoring programs worldwide have faced for a long time: they are focused on training locals as citizen biologists, which, although successful, requires significant and continued funding. In Ecuador, however, scientists have taken things one step further. The study was undertaken (承担) to fight against the serious threat of dying out that so many insects — not just butterflies — are facing. They came up with a unique approach. In Yasuni National Park, one of the world’s most diverse reserves, they started a monitoring project where park rangers (护林员) were trained and then performed monitoring. The rangers were able to identify butterflies to species with impressive accuracy (精确性) — an 85% success rate — which was key for these monitoring programs to be successful. The data gathered by the park rangers was so accurate that it did not significantly differ from the data collected by trained biologists in the area. In comparison to other monitoring projects that employ individuals from the community to act as citizen biologists, which usually terminate when funding is used up, this study represents a long-term solution. Monitoring with a system already in place means that it can continue, regardless of funding. “Our approach increases the possibility of continued monitoring in the long term by saving money,” said the lead author. “What’s more, it will provide the possibility for other highly threatened and important areas for biodiversity (生物多样性) protection.” Soon, the researchers hope to expand their efforts to other parks and reserves in Ecuador and other countries. 46. The figures in the US and Germany listed in Paragraph 1 intend to ________. A. show the rich diversity of butterflies B. describe the sharp fall of butterflies’ number C. stress scientists’ great attention to butterflies D. compare butterfly population decrease in different regions 47. What is monitoring programs’ long-term challenge in butterfly protection? A. The high cost of training staff. B. The wide areas to be monitored. C. The lack of professional trainers. D. The difficulty of handling existing data. 48. What may be the biggest success of Yasuni National Park’s project? A. Attracting biologists’ attention. B. Butterflies’ being saved effectively. C. Rangers making accurate identification. D. Spreading technical monitoring methods. 49. What does the underlined word “terminate” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Grow. B. Return. C. Appear. D. End. 50. What will the researchers do in the future? A. Share their method and experience. B. Prove long-term effects of their method. C. Test for their approach’s economic benefits. D. Compare their results with those of other areas. 46. B 47. A 48. C 49. D 50. 根据第一段“In the US alone, the monarch butterfly has seen a drop of 80%, from millions of them recorded by scientists in the 1980s to only 29,000 in 2020; in 2017 scientists in Germany raised alarm bells after stressing that insects had decreased (减少) by more than 70% in 30 years.(仅在美国,帝王蝶的数量就减少了80%,从20世纪80年代科学家记录的数百万只减少到2020年的29,000只;2017年,德国科学家在强调昆虫在30年内减少了70%以上后敲响了警钟)”可推知,本段列出的美国和德国的数字是为了描述蝴蝶数量的急剧下降。 根据第二段“The scientists also wanted to say the big problem that long-term monitoring programs worldwide have faced for a long time: they are focused on training locals as citizen biologists, which, although successful, requires significant and continued funding.(科学家们还想指出全球长期监测项目长期以来面临的一个大问题:它们专注于将当地人培训成公民生物学家,尽管成功了,但这需要大量和持续的资金)”可知,监测项目对蝴蝶保护的长期挑战是需要大量和持续的资金,因为培训员工的成本很高。故选A项。 根据第三段“In Yasuni National Park, one of the world’s most diverse reserves, they started a monitoring project where park rangers (护林员) were trained and then performed monitoring. The rangers were able to identify butterflies to species with impressive accuracy (精确性) — an 85% success rate — which was key for these monitoring programs to be successful. The data gathered by the park rangers was so accurate that it did not significantly differ from the data collected by trained biologists in the area.(在亚苏尼国家公园,世界上最多样化的保护区之一,他们开始了一个监测项目,公园护林员接受培训,然后进行监测。 根据最后一段““Our approach increases the possibility of continued monitoring in the long term by saving money,” said the lead author. “What’s more, it will provide the possibility for other highly threatened and important areas for biodiversity (生物多样性) protection.” Soon, the researchers hope to expand their efforts to other parks and reserves in Ecuador and other countries.(首席作者说:“我们的方法通过节省资金,增加了长期持续监测的可能性。”“更重要的是,它将为其他高度受威胁和重要的生物多样性保护提供可能性。”不久,研究人员希望将他们的努力扩展到厄瓜多尔和其他国家的其他公园和保护区)”可推知,研究人员将来会分享他们的方法和经验给厄瓜多尔和其他国家的其他公园和保护区。故选A项。 I always do voluntary work in the hospital. As a patient visitor, my primary goal is to deliver quality services to patients and families. By providing companionship for patients in a sometimes lonely environment, I try my best to serve and help to diminish the loneliness and frustration patients may feel after staying in a hospital for a stretch of time for weeks or even months. Every Saturday afternoon for three to four hours, with a list of patients who have requested a patient visitor service, I head up to the 5th 6th or 7th floor to first visit my priority patients. At the nurse’s station, I kindly ask the nurses or the medical staff about the condition of the patients on that unit and confirm that the patients would like a visitor. After receiving an update from the nurse, I gently knock on the door of the patients and enter with a friendly “Hello”. Then, I introduce myself and again politely ask if they would like a patient visitor. I usually try to prepare a few starting conversation topics such as the current news, sports scores and fun facts. However, the patients usually engage me first in an interesting conversation. When volunteering as a patient visitor, I spent a lot of time communicating one-on-one with patients. Individual patients had individual needs and possessed. extraordinary personal stories. Therefore, I found every visit fascinating. From generous and kind patients I have learned about their diseases and their course of treatment. Additionally, I learned about literature, life during the Great Depression and wilderness of Northern Minnesota. On the whole, not only did I learn about the hospital settings and system, but I learned about the diverse life of others. Many of the patients I have visited were truly inspiring and I always admire them for their strength. Although difficult, they were often willing to share their stories of pain, suffering, hopes and optimism. I realize that I am truly grateful and honored that they would share their personal stories with just a volunteer like me. 51. What does the underlined word “diminish” in Paragraph I mean? (1 word) 52. What are the topics the author prepares for the patients? (no more than 10 words) 53. What did the author learn from her talking with the patients (no more than 12 words) 54. How does the author feel about the patients telling her their stories? (no more than 8 words) 55. What can you learn from the author’s story? (no more than 15 words) 【答案】51. Reduce. 52. For the display, we can line the walls with enlarged rubbings of oracle bone inscriptions and ancient seals, paired with bilingual annotations that trace the evolution of Chinese characters. On the opposite wall, we can set up a life-sized shadow puppet stage showing rotating scenes of classic Chinese folk tales. Additionally, a small interactive corner can be reserved for visitors to manipulate simple puppet models on their own. QR codes attached to each exhibit link to short audio clips that introduce relevant cultural backgrounds. This creative design blends strong visual appeal with immersive hands-on engagement, turning an ordinary corridor into a living cultural gallery that effectively bridges language gaps and promotes cross-cultural communication. 融合:blend...with...→ combine...with... On the opposite wall, we can set up a life-sized shadow puppet stage showing rotating scenes of classic Chinese folk tales. On the opposite wall, we can set up a life‑sized shadow puppet stage showing rotating scenes of classic Chinese folk tales, which will draw great attention from those British exchange students. 1】To offer our British exchange students an authentic taste of Chinese culture, I propose integrating Chinese seal script and shadow puppetry into the corridor design. C. She went to the gym as often as she could. 44. What did the author think of her break from Facebook? A. It was good for her eyes. B. It stopped her getting news. C. It distanced her from her friends. D. It gave her time to find beauty in life. 45. What is the author’s attitude toward social media? A. She supports them completely. B. She is strongly against them. C. She thinks they are useful but shouldn’t be overused. D. She thinks they are not harmful at all. C Butterflies, a familiar sight around the world, are disappearing now. 46.
