B Since Glacier National Park’s creation, it has represented the spiritual treasure of Americans with its breathtaking landscapes. But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be a cruel irony Deep within Glacier National Park, visitors now can see an amazing sight: a peaceful lake of pale blue water lying among towering peaks. Beautiful as it is, the very presence of this lake is not desired by people. Just a few decades ago, the land was entirely frozen. Now the glacier itself is reduced to taking up a small area, sheltered from the sun at the edge of the lake created through its own melting. The park has already lost 60 percent of its namesake (同名物) glaciers since the 1850s, and scientists predict their complete disappearance by the end of the century. Families from all over the US and abroad flood to these natural wonders to create memories that will last. Protecting the national park is one of the rare issues that bring political opponents together in the US. With tens of millions of visitors to these sites every year, it is also a matter of economic necessity. The US government recently announced considerable funds to help. This has issued a challenge to the identity of National Park Service, a US agency brought into existence by a 1916 law that called for the preservation of those treasured pristine (处于原始状态的) sites for the enjoyment of future generations. “But it’s now pretty clear that it’s not achievable in many places,” admits John Gross, an ecologist with the National Park Serviceˈs Climate Change Response Program. “It’s certainly possible that the park could lose the iconic feature for which it has been named.” The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organizationˈs philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park’s natural state to stop its further worsening. 4. What does the underlined word “emblem” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Symbol. B. Location. C. Recovery. D. Construction. 5. Why is the new lake in the park mentioned? A. To stress the economic value of the park. B. To serve as evidence of the warming climate. C. To explain the process of glacier formation. D. To describe a new popular tourist attraction. 6. What can be learned about the National Park Service? A. It mainly allows for economic benefits. B. It shows confidence in restoring the park. C. It is forced to adjust its protection principle. D. It is taking measures to limit visitor numbers. 7. Which can be the best title for the text? A. A New Idea for Park Protection B. A Park Is Economically on Thin Ice C. A Political Agreement on Renaming a Park D. A Park Might Be at Risk of Redefining Itself C Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been in the news a lot lately. And according to a recent report from the McKinsey Global Institute, roughly half of today’s work activities could be automated by 2055. Could “teaching” be on that list? Computers are capable of levels of calculations we can only dream of achieving with our minds alone. But when a human teacher connects with a student by having “been there”, through heartfelt listening, he can inspire the student to learn and excel. Even AI with advanced technology can’t do this. So, chances are that your job is safe for the near future. But it is going to change, and AI is going to be a part of education. Hopefully, robots will be joining us quite soon as teaching assistants. Recently, a Georgia Tech professor built an AI teaching assistant for his classroom, which allows him to more effectively manage over 400 students all over the world. His AI tends to answer more routine questions, freeing him to deal with some of the more complex problems from students. A variety of robots are also being used in South Korea and Japan as a resource to supplement language learning. Students can go through any variety of conversational practices, and the AI can monitor mistakes in usage and pronunciation. In fact, research shows that AI can help resolve issues like shyness, lack of confidence, and frustration that can arise when students practice repetitively with a teacher: a robot will not get tired, no matter how many mistakes a student makes. Surprisingly, the West is much more hesitant about embracing the integration of robots and AI in their classrooms, but the tide is quickly turning. Should you start packing up your desk? Absolutely not. The bottom line is that these technologies work best when paired with an active human teacher. But they certainly can make your job easier and more efficient. 8. What’s the author’s attitude towards human teachers’ future? A. Worried. B. Optimistic. C. Doubtful. D. Confused. 9. What does the author want to show by giving the example of a Georgia Tech professor? A. AI will control future teaching. B. AI will make no big difference. C. AI will do more difficult jobs. D. AI will greatly help teachers. 10. What’s a robot’s advantage over a human teacher? A. Being more patient. B. Being more creative. C. The ability to inspire students. D. The ability to communicate. 11. What is the author’s final conclusion about future teaching? A. Robots will play a leading role. B. Teachers will be replaced by robots. C. Robots will be teachers’ good friends. D. Teachers will teach without leaving home. D Until recently, scientists had mapped only about one fifth of the sea floor. But our knowledge of the deep seas is changing because of information from satellites. Scientists have produced a new map that provides a detailed picture of the oceans. The map is expected to help oceanographers (海洋学家), industry and governments. The new map is much more detailed than the map made before. David Sandwell is a geophysics professor at the University of California. He and other scientists worked on the mapping project. He says they turned to space to look deeper into the ocean. The scientists collected and studied information from two satellites. Some of the data came from the European Space Agency’s CryoSat-2 satellite. It was placed in Earth’s orbit to watch sea ice. The other satellite was NASA’s Jason-1 satellite. It studied the surface of the oceans. Scientists combined the satellite data with images gathered by sonar (声呐) equipment on ships. Sonar works by sending sound waves through the water. When the sound waves hit an object, its presence is confirmed. The new map shows the sea floor as it has never been seen before. It shows thousands of underwater mountains and places where continents are pulled apart. It shows where earthquakes were active many years ago. They all are buried deep underneath the ocean floor. David Sandwell says the map is a powerful tool for fisheries, oil exploration and those interested in protecting the environment. “The petrol exploration industry is interested in how to reconnect the continents, bring them back together technically so you can map the basins (盆地) on one continental margin (边缘) — say, Africa — and use that to establish (确定) where the similar basin would be on the other continental margin in South America.” If scientists know that information, they may be able to find oil fields. The new data will also help scientists improve their estimates of ocean depths. This information can help ships travel safely and improve military operations and scientific projects worldwide. Mr Sandwell thinks scientists will make many more discoveries as they examine the new map and the information it provides. 12. What do we know about the new map? A. It shows where earthquakes will happen. B. It will be helpful to industry and governments. C. It is based on the data gathered by the spaceships. D. It is as detailed as the old one. 13. Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the benefits brought by the new map? A. Fisheries. B. Scientific projects. C. Ship manufacture. D. Oil exploration. 14. Where is the passage likely to appear? A. In science fiction. B. In an advertisement. C. In a science magazine. D. In a financial report. 15. What’s the main idea of the passage? A. Scientists have planned to draw a detailed picture of the oceans. B. More underwater mountains and places have been found. C. More discoveries are made about the oceans. D. Scientists have created a new map of the ocean floor. Over recent years, AI has become accessible to everyone, particularly young people, significantly simplifying our lives compared to before. ____16____ Here are three things you can keep in mind as you navigate AI technology in everyday life. Be critical. Generative AI can do amazing things, like generate images or write stories, but it does not reflect on what it is writing. It will string text together in a way that makes sense but often cannot “read between the lines”. ____17____ You can use this as an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills. Watch out for chatbots. Chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate (模拟) conversations as if they were another human being. But there may not be any human checks on inappropriate content. Don’t forget that the “person” you’re speaking to is actually a machine, not a human. ____18____ It only presents text and language based on prewritten models and rules. ____19____ With all the focus on AI-generated text, you might not notice that images and videos are also part of the generative AI landscape. Your photos and facial image become available to AI when uploaded, which makes it harder to protect your identity. So be careful about your privacy and always remember that any data you upload to the internet can be stored, scanned and processed by AI. Nevertheless, the developments in this field are highly exciting. And with open policy conservation and some oversights, AI can be a powerful learning and engagement tool. ____20____ A. Understand AI’s limitations. B. Pay attention to visual uploads. C. However, there are risks as well as benefits. D. It does not share your ideas, beliefs, culture or religion. E. If left unaccompanied, chatbots could feed into your curiosity. F. The potential benefits that would come from using this technology are endless. G. This means every word, sentence and claim AI generates should be treated carefully. Where do you go when you want to learn something? School? A friend? A tutor? I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought. That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car. Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said. Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out. At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry." I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026年上学期高一期末考试 英语 注意事项: 1. 1.What are the speakers talking about? A Park Might Be at Risk of Redefining Itself 【答案】4. A 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“Since Glacier National Park’s creation, it has represented the spiritual treasure of Americans with its breathtaking landscapes. But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be a cruel irony. (自冰川国家公园建立以来,它以其壮丽的景观成为美国人民精神上的瑰宝。但如今,气候变暖正威胁着这座公园的emblem,使它面临一个未来:它的名字可能成为一种残酷的讽刺。)”可知,冰川是公园的标志,emblem含义为“象征、标志”,和Symbol词义相符。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Just a few decades ago, the land was entirely frozen. Now the glacier itself is reduced to taking up a small area, sheltered from the sun at the edge of the lake created through its own melting. (仅仅几十年前,这片土地完全被冰冻。现在冰川本身缩小到只占很小的面积,躲在自己融化形成的湖泊边缘躲避阳光。)”可知,新湖泊的出现是冰川融化的结果,被用来作为气候变暖的证据。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organization's philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park’s natural state to stop its further worsening. (气候危机因此带来了该组织理念的转变:改变公园的自然状态以阻止其进一步恶化是可以接受的。)”可知,国家公园管理局被迫调整其保护原则。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段中“But today, climate warming threatens the very emblem of the park, leaving it facing a future in which its name could be a cruel irony (但如今,气候变暖正威胁着这座公园的象征,使它面临一个未来:它的名字可能成为一种残酷的讽刺。)”、第五段中“It’s certainly possible that the park could lose the iconic feature for which it has been named. (公园很可能会失去其命名所依据的标志性特征。)”以及最后一段The climate crisis has thus brought about a shift in the organization's philosophy: It’s acceptable to change a park's natural state to stop its further worsening. C Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been in the news a lot lately. 8. B 9. D 10. A 11. 12. B 13. C 14. C 15. 16. C 17. G 18. D 19. B 20. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 Para 1 I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. He looked at me in disbelief, asking me what to do. Flashing him another apologetic smile, I begged him for a delayed payment. “If I miss this last bus to Prague, I’ll be late for the conference which is so important that I can’t afford to miss it!” I explained. “May I have your phone number? I will call you and return the money I owe you. I promise I will keep my word or you keep my watch!” I added, handing him my watch as well as my business card. Gunter accepted my business card but rejected my watch. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to me. “Just keep your promise, Sir.” A feeling of gratitude washed over me as I heard his words. Giving him a firm handshake, I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the bus, and jumped onto it just before its departure. Para 2 Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before. Beaming a warm smile at him, I gave him a big hug the moment I saw him. We chatted happily on the way to the airport. I told him that thanks to his generosity and timely help, everything had gone smoothly. When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down. I also gave him an attractive souvenir I had bought at Prague, which he accepted with delight. We became good friends and kept in touch with each other regularly. I felt blessed to have such a warm-hearted friend like Gunter. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拒绝:reject/refuse ②给某人拥抱:give sb. a hug/embrace sb. ③记下,写下:write down/set down 情绪类 ①难以置信地:in disbelief/incredibly/unbelievably ②开心地:happily/joyfully 【点睛】【高分句型1】He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before.(运用了where引导的限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句,that引导的限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
