In many places, local people opened their homes to the two friends and gave them food. During their trip, Gregg and Brooks cycled through deserts and rainforests. They met other cyclists from all over the world.
Gregg and Brooks kept a record of their travel in an online blog. The trip taught both men a lot about travelling. Here are some pieces of Gregg’s advice:

(张家口桥西期末改编)As the saying goes, “Travelling thousands of miles is better than reading thousands of books.” Hundreds of years ago, some famous people travelled around China and they got a lot from exploration.
Xu Xiake, a geographer and writer in the Ming Dynasty, was interested in travel and exploration. He spent more than thirty years on the road. With his mother’s encouragement, Xu travelled around China. He visited Mount Wutai (Shanxi), Yellow Mountain (Anhui), West Lake(Zhejiang) and Mount Wuyi(Fujian). He met many difficulties on the road. But he never stopped travelling and writing. Xu Xiake was on the road all his life. His 600,000-word travel notes finally came out in
1776, 135 years after his death. China Tourism Day is set on May 19, the date when he started The Travels of Xu Xiake.

Along the way, he met with bad weather, a shortage of food and water and so on. They reached Shangdu in 1275. Marco Polo’s hard journey created The Travels of Marco Polo. Can you live in the following places?
The hottest place on the earth
Death Valley is one of the world’s hottest places, and it is the record holder for the highest air temperature on the earth. There, the temperature reached a record of 56.7℃ on July 10, 1913.
Antarctica—the place with the most unusual weather
Antarctica is famous for its extreme(极端的) weather. It’s the world’s coldest place. It is both the wettest and the driest place on the earth. Are you surprised? Well, here are the facts. People cannot live in Antarctica all year round because it’s too cold. In 1983, scientists recorded the lowest temperature ever: -89.2℃! It’s the
wettest place on the earth not because it has the most rain or snow, but because about 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice. It is also the driest place because it almost never rains there! Antarctica holds another record too. It is a place with the world’s thickest ice.
The best and worst places for weather
So where are the best and worst places in the world for weather? That’s one of the most difficult questions. What’s good for one person may be bad for another. A group named International Living tried to answer this question. Their number 1 for the best weather was Italy. Their number 2 was France. Mexico was number 3! What number do you think your country might rank(排名) in the world?

Skating, riding snowmobiles and having parties can create exciting nights. Of all the fun, a hot bath must be the first choice to relax. There are also storytelling activities for children, which can teach them to be strong and kind.
Because of the long cold winter, Iceland has a short growing season. The food problem used to be a big challenge for Iceland in the past. It had to buy most of its food from other countries. When farmers learned to use lights and underground heat(热) to grow crops in the greenhouse all year round, things changed a lot.
