Born and brought up in a small family in Kaliwal village in India, Veeranna Madiwalar had a childhood full of struggle. Even as his parents struggled to make ends meet, it was very difficult to pay his school fees. It was his uncle who supported his education. “He used to say that he saw a changemaker and artist in me, and he wanted me to complete my education,” he says.
After receiving his master’s degree in English and Kannada, he moved back to his hometown because he wanted to make education better for future generations. “I worked for four years before being made the headmaster of a school in 2016,” he says, adding that the old and poor building and lack of infrastructure (基础设施) made him think of his own school’s state.
Using his own money, he started small — he planted a few trees across the campus, and started repair work on the building. But he knew he could not fund the repair of the school alone and would need more help. So he used the power of social media (社交媒体) to raise money. “I started posting pictures of the school with my repairs on social media. Word spread and, surprisingly, many people came forward to help me,” he says.
Today this school is a far cry from what it used to be — with colourful walls, lots of infrastructure, trees, a garden, and a library with picture books and audio⁃visual resources (视听资源) in English and Kannada. And the number of students has grown from 76 to 136.
“The change is amazing,” says Suleman Sheikh, an official from the school. “It didn’t happen overnight. It was a slow journey, and everyone, even students, played a part in it. Today, the school stands proudly, and the students have a place they truly enjoy studying in.”

(2026·甘肃定西模拟)They have killed skinny jeans and continue to shame millennials for having side partings in their hair. But now comes a surprising Gen Z plot twist. Those born between 1997 and 2012 are reviving (复兴) reading — it’s physical books rather than digital that they are reading.
This week the 22⁃year⁃old model Kaia Gerber launched her own book club, Library Science. Gerber describes it as “a platform for sharing books, featuring new writers, hosting conversations with artists we admire, and continuing to build a community of people who are as excited about literature as I am”.
Gerber isn’t alone. Last year in the UK, 669 million physical books were sold, the highest overall level ever recorded. More people are reading and that’s great.”

(2026·泰安模拟)Having thousands of photos, songs and films available at our fingertips would have seemed amazing just a few decades ago, but how long will these files last for and be available? Could the digital data now put a time limit on our memories? 9
The materials that phones and computers are made of can decay (腐蚀) over time. 10 When digital data degrades, it can quickly make it impossible to open a file. Also, as formats and devices become out of date, it may become impossible to read files from previous decades.
11 Large companies can still lose data.In 2019, social media platform MySpace admitted losing more than 12 years’ worth of users’ music uploads. The widespread use of streaming services for music, TV and film means that people no longer own the content that they watch and listen to; they just pay for the right to access it.If streaming companies decide to remove content, or go out of business, users will lose access.
Licensing rather than buying content is an example of how our behaviour towards digital content has changed. 12 This means that, in addition to the challenge of keeping our data safe, people have to consider what to preserve and what can be thrown away.
So, what can we do? Technology writer Jack Schofield said that “data doesn’t really exist unless you have at least two copies of it”. 13 Probably more than one.Academic Paul Royster suggests that we should all take time to consider what content we personally believe is worth saving.Perhaps the answer is just to avoid digital altogether.
A.It’s necessary to store memories now.
B.Digital memories might not last forever.
C.Thus, this will impact the data they store.
D.So it’s important to back up what is important to us.
E.Storing information in the cloud can also present problems.
F.However, the quality of the data they store will remain unchanged.
G.Another example is that we take far more pictures than people did in the past.
