Few figures are as deeply connected with a city as Antoni Gaudí is with Barcelona. His expressive, nature-inspired, and original architecture has come to define the city’s style. Below is a selection of Gaudí’s most remarkable buildings.
Casa Vicens
Casa Vicens is Gaudí’s first major work in Barcelona and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed as a summer villa (别墅) for a rich businessman, it combines Gothic (哥特式的), Moorish, and Art Nouveau styles. The outside wall is covered with colorful brick patterns, while the inside features plant-inspired columns and bright ceilings. This early project already shows Gaudí’s love of nature, vivid colors, and creative use of local materials.
La Sagrada Família
Construction of La Sagrada Família began in 1882, funded by public donations. When the original architect resigned, the 31-year-old Gaudí took over. Every outside wall is like a detailed artwork covered with sculptures. The central pointed structure rises to 172.5 meters, making it the world’s tallest church. The church remains Barcelona’s most visited attraction.
Park Güell
When industrialist Eusebi Güell wanted to create a garden city for Barcelona’s aristocracy (贵族), he asked Gaudí to design a park to help him sell villas. In the end, only two houses were built, and only one sold — to none other than Gaudí himself. As a property project, Park Güell was a failure. As a city icon and tourist attraction, though, it succeeded brilliantly.
Casa Milà and Casa Batlló
Gaudí made his influence clear through both Casa Milà and Casa Batlló. The former was his final major project, whose flowing curves, complex metal details and twisting chimneys showcase his distinctive artistic brilliance. Gaudí redesigned Casa Batlló for aristocrat Josep Batlló. Its dragon-crest roof, shark-bone balconies and bony floors earned it the nickname “House of Bones”.
21. What can we learn about Casa Vicens?
A. It features only Gothic style. B. It is a villa covered with plants.
C. It is Gaudí’s favourite design. D. It shows Gaudí’s love for nature.
22. Which building aimed to help sell houses?
A. Casa Milà. B. Casa Batlló. C. Park Güell. D. La Sagrada Família.
23. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce Gaudí’s life story. B. To present Gaudí’s famous works.
C. To describe the scenery of Barcelona. D. To compare styles of Gaudí’s buildings.
B
More than two decades ago, a simple message in a bottle drifted (漂流) across the ocean and brought two strangers together in the most unexpected way.
Back in 2001, Diane Charles was taking one of her usual morning walks along a beach in Stanley, Tasmania, a barnacle-covered (布满藤壶的) bottle rolling in the waves caught her eyes. Curious, she picked it up and found a note inside.
The message written in Spanish wasn’t easy to understand at first. With the help of a scholar, she decoded it: “Life has taught me that all is possible. Receive love, and success is second to this.”
But the most important clues were easy to spot: a name, a Colombian address, and a fax number. Those details led Charles to Erika Boyero, a woman from Colombia who had thrown the bottle into the sea four years earlier.
In 1997, Boyero was a bar waitress on a ship traveling through the Nordic countries. One evening, bored and looking for something fun to do, she wrote several notes, sealed them in empty bottles, and threw them overboard. Then she forgot all about them.
Years later, her father surprised her with unexpected news. “Hey, you received a fax from Australia,” he told her. Boyero was shocked, “What? I don’t know anyone in Australia.”
Eventually, it clicked — the bottles.
What started as a mysterious ocean message soon turned into a long-distance friendship. For the next 25 years, Charles and Boyero stayed in touch, sharing life updates and milestones — from the birth of children to Boyero’s move to Germany.
Recently, their story gained a new chapter. While traveling in Kuala Lumpur, Boyero called Charles with an idea: she wanted to fly to Tasmania so the two could finally meet in person. When Boyero arrived, the two embraced like long lost friends.
Looking back, Boyero says the early translation of her message was just what she originally wrote. “Life has taught me that all is possible.”
24. What helped Diane Charles get in touch with Erika Boyero?
A. A scholar’s personal introduction. B. The record of passengers on a ship.
C. The contact information on the note. D. Unexpected news from a bar waitress.
25. What did Erika Boyero do with the bottles in 1997?
A. She dropped them for fun. B. She kept them as presents.
C. She mailed them to Australia. D. She sent them to find new friends.
26. What does the underlined part “it clicked” in Paragraph 7 probably mean?
A. It dawned on her. B. It dialed the number. C. It disappeared slowly. D. It made a sharp noise.
27. What can we learn from the story?
A. Traveling teaches us valuable life lessons. B. Small playful acts can lead to lifelong bonds.
C. Patience helps us achieve unexpected success. D. Long-distance friendships are hard to maintain.
C
For decades, teaching a robot to play the piano has always meant programming it first. Every note was mapped out, every finger position specified in advance. The machine doesn’t listen — it follows orders. That assumption is now harder to maintain. Developed by researchers from the University of Southern California (USC), a robotic hand called “Musician Hand” randomly pressed piano keys for two minutes, then listened to an unfamiliar tune and played it back on the first attempt.
The Musician Hand learns through a method called “motor babbling”, which refers to the trial-and-error way babies use to figure out their own arms and legs. During the two-minute self-exploration, the four-fingered robotic hand pressed piano keys randomly, recording every sound and the corresponding finger movements. Its fingers are driven by small electric motors and flexible cords (索线) , just like how human fingers work. With the collected data, intelligent networks can interpret a new tune and translate it into the motor commands needed to reproduce it.
Then, the team set up a blind test. The Musician Hand played tunes alongside four trained pianists and five beginners. Two professional music judges were asked to tell them apart. The robot held its own against the trained players and clearly outdid the beginners. Sometimes the judges could not distinguish its performance from that of humans.
Engineers build most robots on a simple assumption: a machine needs near-perfect information about itself and its surroundings to act well. Azadjou’s team rejects it. “Living things do fine without perfect information — they sense, make a good guess, and adapt on the fly, ” Azadjou notes. The team calls this approach perceptual technology, where a machine perceives, experiments, and corrects itself instead of leaning on extensive training.
The same idea could reach well beyond music. For patients with Parkinson’s disease, a wearable robotic suit based on this technology can learn their unique movement habits and help them move naturally as the disease advances. “The same approach, ” Azadjou says, “could one day help a stroke patient regain hand function, cooperate with a construction worker or help an elderly person stay safely at home. Although it remains a model, robots can learn you. ”
28. How does a traditional robot learn to play the piano?
A. It listens actively. B. It draws maps.
C. It practices repeatedly. D. It obeys commands.
29. What aspect of the robot is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Its physical structure. B. Its self-learning process.
C. Its intelligent network. D. Its sound-to-movement principle.
30. Why did the team conduct a blind test on the robot?
A. To promote it on the market. B. To improve its performance.
C. To see how good it really was. D. To show how it worked with pianists.
31. What does Azadjou say about the technology?
A. It’s mature. B. It’s booming. C. It’s complex. D. It’s promising.

You walk into a clothing store and spot a leather coat marked $1,800. You immediately label it extremely pricey and move on. Later that day, you find an identical coat on sale for $650, and you instantly think you have found an incredible steal. What you may not realize is that your judgment has been misled by the anchoring bias
The anchoring bias was first identified by psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky in their research on intuitive (直觉的) reasoning. It describes the human tendency to rely heavily on the first piece of information we encounter — called an anchor — and evaluate every subsequent detail against that fixed reference point.
Consider bargaining for a second-hand vehicle. If a seller opens with a high asking price, that number becomes your mental anchor. Even if you negotiate the price far lower, you will still view the final deal as a win compared to the original figure, ignoring the car’s true market value. The opposite holds true: A surprisingly low initial offer causes the seller to undervalue their own property. This trap does not only appear in shopping; it influences salary negotiations, exam score judgments, and even predictions about global statistics.
The bias exists because human brains naturally conserve mental energy. Recalculating value requires heavy cognitive (认知的) effort, so we automatically lean on the first available reference point rather than conducting fully independent analysis. When we are setting plans or making estimates about something, we interpret newer information from the reference point of our anchor instead of seeing it objectively. This can affect our judgment and prevent us from updating our plans or predictions as much as we should.
Avoiding the anchoring bias entirely isn’t possible, given its widespread impact and how powerful it is. Like all cognitive biases, the anchoring bias is subconscious, meaning it’s difficult to interrupt. Yet one evidence-based and straightforward strategy to fight against the anchoring bias is to come up with reasons why that anchor is inappropriate for the situation. Meanwhile, considering multiple options is always a good idea to aid in decision-making.
32. What do the underlined words “an incredible steal” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. A real bargain. B. A free item. C. An identical product. D. An unexpected gift.
33. Why is the second-hand vehicle deal mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To explain a rule. B. To present a fact.
C. To illustrate a concept. D. To make a comparison.
34. What is the cause of the anchoring bias?
A. Reference point loss. B. Independent analysis.
C. Brain’s energy-saving nature. D. Brain’s heavy burden.
35. What is a good way to deal with the anchoring bias?
A. Ignoring its reasons. B. Weighing various choices.
C. Seeking its impacts. D. Interrupting subconscious thoughts.

Reading comes in two forms. The first skims the surface: You follow the plot and end up knowing roughly what takes place. The second, however, takes you elsewhere entirely — the page fades away and you emerge from the book with novel ideas or feelings. ____36____ It requires bringing your cognitive resources entirely to a text and involves complex reasoning and emotional response.
However, deep reading is becoming rarer today. A decade of smartphones has reshaped our attention habits, leaving our “reading muscles” worn out far more readily. ____37____ Like any other practice, it can be rebuilt through deliberate steps and the right environment.
To reclaim this ability, the environment matters most. ____38____ Studies show that the mere presence of a smartphone reduces cognitive capacity because the brain wastes energy monitoring the possibility of a message. The ideal reading environment should be quiet and tidy, making the book the most interesting thing available.
You should also choose books that reward deep attention. Books suitable for deep reading have common features: multi-layered writing, progressive ideas and complex characters that offer new insights on rereading. ____39____ These “resistant” texts, which force you to re-read sentences, offer the greatest benefits for your attention.
____40____ It is about preserving and developing a form of attention that enriches every part of life. That attention is worth protecting, and worth working to recover if it has been lost. The path back is not complicated: By putting the phone away and sitting with a worthy book, we can regain this vital capacity.
A. It is an active process involving your full mind.
B. You should be comfortable enough to remain focused.
C. The single most effective step is to remove your phone.
D. Deep reading is not primarily about reading more books.
E. Fortunately, this decline in focus is not a permanent state.
F. Literary fiction and philosophy typically show such qualities.
G. Digital reading habits are often in tension with deep reading.

Sophie Williams had always loved drawing. Ever since she was little, she would spend hours sketching (素描) anything that came to mind — animals, landscapes, and even imaginary creatures. When her art teacher, Mrs Reynolds, announced that the school was hosting an art competition, Sophie felt both excited and nervous. It was her chance to show everyone what she could do, but the thought of competing against other students made her anxious. “What if my drawing isn’t good enough?” she wondered aloud one evening while working on her sketch.
Her elder brother, Daniel, overheard her and gave her some advice. “You don’t need to worry about the result,” he said. “Just focus on doing your best. Remember, art is about expressing yourself, not about being perfect.” His words made Sophie feel a little better, but as the competition deadline approached, she still felt unsure. She spent days working on her drawing, trying to make every detail just right. She chose to draw a large oak tree in a field, with the sun setting behind it. The colors were vibrant (鲜艳的), and she added delicate details to the leaves and grass.
When Sophie brought her finished drawing to school, she saw other students’ work displayed on the walls. There were paintings, collages (拼贴画), and digital art — all of them impressive. She shook with tension as she placed her drawing alongside the others. “Maybe mine isn’t good enough after all,” she thought, feeling small compared to the talent around her. Mrs Reynolds noticed her hesitation and smiled, “Your work is beautiful, Sophie. Remember, it’s not about comparing yourself to others — it’s about doing what you love.”
The next day, the school’s lecture hall was packed with students, teachers, and parents for the awards ceremony. Sophie’s heart raced as the judge began to announce the winners. She wasn’t expecting her name to be called, but deep down, she hoped for a small chance.

C 18. A 19. C 20. A
W: Good morning, everyone! Today I’d like to share some practical ways to save water in our daily lives. In fact, we have all been told not to leave the water running while brushing our teeth or washing our faces. Another good habit is taking shorter showers — every minute counts. When it comes to doing the dishes, using the dishwasher is much more efficient than washing the dishes by hand, but only if you fill it up. If you use the dishwasher for only a few plates or glasses, you will end up wasting more water. Does your car need a wash? Get down to Lumsden College this weekend, where they are having a charity car wash. The event will take place at the college parking lot, where the students will be washing cars for a good cause — that’s on Saturday, the 4th, from eight in the morning till eight in the evening. And the prices are pretty good, too — just ten dollars for the outside of your car and eight dollars for the inside. If you want the full service, outside and inside, it will cost you only fifteen dollars. That’s not too bad. But the main thing is that all the money raised will go to the homeless people in the area. So if your car is dirty, you know where to take it this weekend.

A
Few figures are as deeply connected with a city as Antoni Gaudí is with Barcelona.

C 25. A 26. A 27. B
根据第四段中“But the most important clues were easy to spot: a name, a Colombian address, and a fax number. Those details led Charles to Erika Boyero, a woman from Colombia who had thrown the bottle into the sea four years earlier.(但最重要的线索很容易发现:一个名字、一个哥伦比亚地址和一个传真号码。这些细节让Charles找到了Erika Boyero——一位四年前将瓶子扔进大海的哥伦比亚女子。)”可知,是纸条上的联系方式帮助Diane Charles联系上了Erika Boyero。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中“One evening, bored and looking for something fun to do, she wrote several notes, sealed them in empty bottles, and threw them overboard.(一天晚上,由于无聊且想找点乐子,她写了几张纸条,把它们封进空瓶子里,然后扔到了船外。)”
根据第六段中“Boyero was shocked, “What? I don’t know anyone in Australia.”(博耶罗震惊了:“什么?我在澳大利亚根本不认识任何人。”)”及第七段“Eventually, it clicked — the bottles.(最终,clicked——是那些瓶子。)” “It dawned on her.(她突然明白过来。)”
根据倒数第三段中“What started as a mysterious ocean message soon turned into a long-distance friendship. For the next 25 years, Charles and Boyero stayed in touch, sharing life updates and milestones — from the birth of children to Boyero’s move to Germany.(这段始于神秘海洋信息的缘分,很快变成了一段跨越远距离的友谊。在接下来的25年里,查尔斯和博耶罗一直保持联系,分享生活中的变化和重要时刻——从孩子的出生到博耶罗移居德国。)”并结合全文内容可知,这个故事始于一个无聊时扔出的漂流瓶,却最终缔结了长达四分之一个世纪的深厚情谊,说明微小有趣的举动也可能带来终生的情感联结。

D 29. B 30. C 31. D

The machine doesn’t listen — it follows orders.(几十年来,教机器人弹钢琴一直意味着先对其编程。
根据第二段中的“The Musician Hand learns through a method called “motor babbling” , which refers to the trial-and-error way babies use to figure out their own arms and legs. During the two-minute self-exploration, the four-fingered robotic hand pressed piano keys randomly, recording every sound and the corresponding finger movements...With the collected data, intelligent networks can interpret a new tune and translate it into the motor commands needed to reproduce it.(“音乐家之手”通过一种名为“运动咿呀学语”的方式学习,该方式指婴儿摸清自己四肢时采用的反复试错模式。在两分钟的自我探索过程中,这只四指机械手随机按压钢琴琴键,记录下每一个声响以及对应的手指动作……利用收集到的数据,智能网络可以理解一首新曲子,并将其翻译成再现它所需的电机命令。)”可知,本段主要介绍新型机器人的自我学习方式与学习过程。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“The robot held its own against the trained players and clearly outdid the beginners. Sometimes the judges could not distinguish its performance from that of humans.(该机器人的演奏水平不输专业演奏者,且明显优于新手,有时评委无法区分它与人类的演奏。)”
根据第五段中的“The same idea could reach well beyond music. For patients with Parkinson’s disease, a wearable robotic suit based on this technology can learn their unique movement habits and help them move naturally as the disease advances. “The same approach, ” Azadjou says, “could one day help a stroke patient regain hand function, cooperate with a construction worker or help an elderly person stay safely at home.(相同的理念能够远远延伸到音乐之外。对于患有帕金森病的病人,一套基于这项技术的可穿戴机器人套装可以学习他们独特的运动习惯,并在病情加重时帮助他们自然活动。“同一套方法,”阿扎杜说道,“有朝一日能够帮助中风病人重获手部功能、配合建筑工人工作,或是帮助老年人安全居家。”)”可知,该技术应用范围广泛、未来潜力巨大,发展前景十分可观。

A 33. C 34. C 35. B
根据第一段中的“You immediately label it extremely pricey and move on. Later that day, you find an identical coat on sale for $650, and you instantly think you have found an incredible steal.(你立刻认为它极其昂贵并转身离开。当天晚些时候,你发现一件一模一样的外套售价650美元,你立刻觉得自己捡到了天大的便宜。)”可知,对比一千八百美元的原价,六百五十美元的同款外套价格十分优惠,因此“an incredible steal”指代物美价廉的划算交易。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“If a seller opens with a high asking price, that number becomes your mental anchor. Even if you negotiate the price far lower, you will still view the final deal as a win compared to the original figure, ignoring the car’s true market value.(如果卖家以高价开价,这个数字就会成为你的心理锚点。即便你把价格谈低了很多,相较于最初的价格,你依旧会认为最终交易很划算,忽略了汽车真实的市场价值。)”可知,作者列举二手车议价的例子,是为了具体阐释锚定偏见这一抽象概念。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The bias exists because human brains naturally conserve mental energy. Recalculating value requires heavy cognitive (认知的) effort, so we automatically lean on the first available reference point rather than conducting fully independent analysis.(这种偏见之所以存在,是因为人类大脑会本能节省脑力。重新估算价值需要耗费大量认知精力,因此我们会下意识依靠最先出现的参照标准,而非开展完全独立的分析。)”可知,锚定偏见产生的根源是大脑节省脑力的本能特性。
【35题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中的“Yet one evidence-based and straightforward strategy to fight against the anchoring bias is to come up with reasons why that anchor is inappropriate for the situation. Meanwhile, considering multiple options is always a good idea to aid in decision-making.(然而,一种有据可依且简单直接的对抗锚定偏见的策略是,找出该锚定值不适用于当下情形的各类理由。与此同时,多考量几种备选方案始终是助力决策的好办法。)”可知,权衡、考量多种选择是应对锚定偏见的有效方式。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
A 37. E 38. C 39. F 40. D
根据空前的“The second, however, takes you elsewhere entirely — the page fades away and you emerge from the book with novel ideas or feelings.(然而第二种阅读完全带你进入另一个境界:书页逐渐淡出视野,你合上书后收获全新的想法与感悟。)”以及空后的“It requires bringing your cognitive resources entirely to a text and involves complex reasoning and emotional response.(它需要你将全部认知资源投入文本,包含复杂的推理与情感反应。)”
根据空前的“A decade of smartphones has reshaped our attention habits, leaving our “reading muscles” worn out far more readily.(十年的智能手机使用重塑了我们的注意力习惯,让我们的阅读专注力更容易疲惫衰退。)”以及空后的“Like any other practice, it can be rebuilt through deliberate steps and the right environment.(和其他练习一样,它可以通过刻意训练与合适的环境重新培养。)” E选项“Fortunately, this decline in focus is not a permanent state (幸运的是,这种专注力下降并非永久状态)”中的 this decline in focus 指代前文阅读专注力衰退,转折引出后文可恢复训练的内容,符合语境。
根据空前的“To reclaim this ability, the environment matters most.(想要重拾这项能力,环境至关重要。)”以及空后的“Studies show that the mere presence of a smartphone reduces cognitive capacity because the brain wastes energy monitoring the possibility of a message.(研究表明,仅仅是手机的存在就会降低认知能力,因为大脑会耗费精力留意消息提醒。)” C选项“The single most effective step is to remove your phone (最有效的办法就是移开你的手机)”点明打造阅读环境的核心举措,引出后文手机干扰专注力的科学依据,符合语境。
根据空前的“Books suitable for deep reading have common features: multi-layered writing, progressive ideas and complex characters that offer new insights on rereading.(适合深度阅读的书籍具备共性:多层次的文笔、层层递进的思想、丰富的人物,重读能收获新感悟。)”以及空后的“These “resistant” texts, which force you to re-read sentences, offer the greatest benefits for your attention.(这些需要反复品读的文本,能最大程度锻炼专注力。)”
根据空后的“It is about preserving and developing a form of attention that enriches every part of life.(它的意义在于守护和培养一种丰富生活各方面的专注力。)” D选项“Deep reading is not primarily about reading more books (深度阅读的核心并非读更多的书)”总领本段主旨,否定浅层认知,引出后文深度阅读的真正价值,符合语境。

My View on Practice Makes Perfect
I firmly believe the saying “Practice makes perfect” holds true for everything we learn. No one can master skills overnight, and constant practice helps us overcome weaknesses and make steady progress.
Take my English writing as an example. I used to make many grammar mistakes. I kept writing short passages every day and revised them carefully. Gradually, my articles became fluent and won praise from my teacher.
Without repeated practice, talent alone won’t lead to success. Only persistent efforts can bring us perfection.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
With every passing second, Sophie sat nervously in her seat.

Walking off the stage, Sophie was greeted with a big hug from Mrs Reynolds.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With every passing second, Sophie sat nervously in her seat. She stared at her shoes, too afraid to listen closely to the names being read out. Several first and second prizes went to students whose art she had admired greatly. Just as Sophie prepared to accept that she would win nothing, the judge mentioned a special creativity award. “This piece captures warm peace of nature with sincere feelings — the winner is Sophie Williams!” Shocked, Sophie froze for a second before walking up to the stage unsteadily. She held the prize tightly, her eyes shining with joyful tears.
Walking off the stage, Sophie was greeted with a big hug from Mrs Reynolds. Her brother Daniel also waved wildly from the crowd with a wide smile. Sophie realized her brother and teacher were right. Art was never a competition against others. What mattered most was pouring her true feelings into every line and color. Later, she kept her award on the desk beside her sketchbook. From then on, she drew without anxiety, simply enjoying the pleasure of expressing herself through art every single day.
