Gold drew crowds to South Africa but it was something else that restored my faith in this chaotic nation.
As a British living in Cape Town, I recently received the painful news of my father’s passing. After the funeral in England, my mother gave me a gold ring worn by him for decades and before him, by his father. I had never been fond of jewellery, yet the moment I slipped it onto my finger, a strange sense of belonging settled over me. Soothed by this precious reminder amid my grief, I flew back home to South Africa.
Everything remained peaceful until a windy Saturday afternoon. When I wandered along the local beach and arrived home, I glanced down at my left hand. The ring wasn’t there. Shock, horror, regret, rage and helplessness-an overwhelming wave of emotions crashed over me, along with a potential life sentence of guilt. I searched every possible corner, but in vain. There was no doubt that I had lost it on the beach, a vast stretch of land extending 200 metres. And the tiny ring was nothing more than a needle lost in the boundless ocean.
I set out at dawn the next day to search the beach, but all my efforts proved unsuccessful, leaving me worn and discouraged. My last ray of hope lay in the fierce wind: it might have buried the ring beneath the sand, keeping it safe and hidden somewhere.
Resolved to recover it at all costs, I took a throw of the dice and reached out to local metal detector enthusiasts. Two kind-hearted volunteers came to my aid, one even generously lending me his equipment. “Take all the time you need,” he said.
Days passed in constant scanning and sweeping. We only uncovered an old cellphone, a 50-cent coin and countless bottle caps. As my hope gradually faded, Allan, a third volunteer called to offer help.

四.段落续写(满分范文150词左右)
Paragraph 1: After a three-hour drive, Allan arrived with his professional equipment. Unlike our previous blind searching, Allan carried precise equipment and checked every inch of the beach patiently. The strong wind still blew and the weather turned gloomy, but he never gave up. He concentrated fully on scanning the sand where we had overlooked before. Just as I was about to lose hope again, his device made a sharp beep. He gently dug the sand and uncovered the tiny golden ring. Wild with joy, I held the ring tightly and expressed my sincere gratitude to Allan.
Paragraph 2: Yet the ring was not the only thing I recovered that day. The precious heirloom retrieved my beloved family memories, while the volunteers’ selfless kindness warmed my cold heart. I had once felt disappointed and lost in this chaotic nation. However, these strangers spared their time and energy to help a stranger for nothing. Their pure kindness completely restored my faith in South Africa. I finally realized that spiritual warmth and human kindness are far more valuable than gold and material wealth.
