A China Sky Eye — The Eye of the Universe
China Sky Eye, also known as FAST (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope), is the world's largest and most sensitive radio telescope. It is located in a natural basin in Guizhou Province, China. The telescope is 500 meters in diameter, which is about the size of 30 football fields.
FAST was completed in 2016 and officially began operations in 2020. Since then, it has made many important discoveries. Scientists use FAST to observe pulsars, search for extraterrestrial life, and study the origins of the universe. The telescope is so sensitive that it can detect signals from billions of light-years away.
Building FAST was a huge challenge. Scientists had to find a perfect location with minimal radio interference. They also had to design and construct a telescope that could change its shape to focus on different parts of the sky. The project shows the great progress China has made in science and technology.
