Dear Tim,
I’m sorry to hear that you are feeling lonely and having trouble with your studies in the new school. I understand how you feel because it can be really challenging to start in a new place.
I think it’s important to remember that it takes time to adjust to a new environment. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Try to be more active and make friends with your classmates. You can join some clubs or activities to meet new people who have similar interests. Also, don’t be afraid to talk to your teachers. They can give you some useful advice and support.
As for your studies, maybe you need to find a better way to study. You can make a study plan and stick to it. Ask your teachers or classmates for help if you have any questions.
I believe that you will gradually adapt to the new school and make progress. Just keep trying and stay positive.
Best wishes,
Frank

Are E-Games Bad for You?
Playing e-games is one of the most popular free-time activities for young people, but experts say that playing for hours and hours can damage their health.
Some young people who play e-games a lot don’t get enough exercise. And they often eat junk food when they play. They put on weight and sometimes become obese (肥胖的). “If young people exercised more, instead of playing e-games,we wouldn’t have a problem with teen obesity,” says fitness expert Edwin Rice.
Obesity is not the only problem. After playing for a long time, players’ fingers and hands can hurt. “If players took regular breaks, their hands wouldn’t hurt so much,” says Dr Anthony Harper. “They shouldn’t play for hours and hours without a rest. They should relax their fingers and hands every thirty minutes.”
Besides, sitting still (静止的) playing e-games can cause a backache and a sore neck or shoulders. “Players wouldn’t have these problems if they sat correctly,” says expert Sandra Westwood. “Also, players who are too near the screen often get headaches and can damage their eyes.”
But not everyone has a negative opinion of e-games. Some e-games require players to simulate a sport, for example, skiing, dancing, bowling, playing tennis, basketball and baseball. Some experts agree that these games are good for young people and can improve their fitness.
So, if you want to play e-games with fewer health risks, you should choose active e-games and play in a correct way.
42.Playing e-games isn’t one of the most popular free-time activities for young people, is it?
43.How can playing e-games cause obesity?
44.What does Edwin Rice want young people to do more?
45.What causes game players’ fingers and hands to hurt?
46.What health problems does sitting too close to the screen cause?
47.What kind of e-games are good for young people?

六、任务型阅读(共12分)

Violent Video Games: Harmless Fun or Gateways (途径) to Violence (暴力)?
Video games filled with killing and other acts of violence are a favorite of many teenagers. Are they just harmless fun? Or should they be banned (禁止) for being damaging to young minds? Opinions differ widely. Here’s how seven people of different ages responded when asked, “Are violent video games a proper form of entertainment for teenagers?”
Liam (17): “Yes! They’re just games. I’ve played them for years, and I’m not violent at all. A lot of adults think that young people can’t tell fantasy from reality, but that’s ridiculous. Maybe it’s true for very young children, but not for teens. It’s just like watching action movies. We know they’re just dumb fun, not something to copy in real life.”
Sarah (42): “Not for my teenagers. I worry that by playing violent video games regularly, they’ll start seeing violence as a solution to everything. I don’t want my children’s first reaction to a problem to be shoot, shoot, kill, kill!”
Jordan (25): “Well, I grew up playing them, and I turned out fine. In fact, I was quite an angry teenager, but I found that playing those games helped me let off steam. So in a weird way, they helped make me less aggressive (好斗的).”
Emma (61): “No way. I’m a teacher, and over the years, I’ve noticed the kids in my class have become a lot more aggressive. I’m sure that change comes down to the growing popularity of this type of video games.”
Mia (16): “I don’t personally like them-they scare me! But I think they’re fine if you like that kind of thing and your parents educate you about them. My little brother does, and my dad has spoken to him about them. He knows there’s nothing fun about real-life violence.”
Carlos (30): “If we let kids watch violent movies and violence on the news, then I don’t see why violent video games should be off-limits. The world has violence in it, so these games help prepare teenagers for reality.”
Ryan (36): “Maybe not the ones with super-realistic violence. I can see how they could set a bad example for some young people. But there are lots of games where the violence is really cartoonish. Those types are fine, I think, as they’re so obviously fantasy.”
30.Among the seven people, how many of them treat violent video games as definitely gateways to violence?

41.句意:相反,那些让青少年体验自己行为后果的父母能做得更好。
failures失败;changes改变;results结果;surprises惊讶。experience the results of their actions意为“体验他们行为的后果”,符合语境。故选C。
六、任务型阅读(共12分)
