Part 1
Science (fiction) has always explored what it means to be human. One famous sci-fi story features an AI robot named AURA, designed with remarkable (integrity) and (dignity). When AURA is wrongly blamed for a critical system failure, it is programmed to feel (guilty) — even though the malfunction was not its fault. The technology company that created AURA decides to (suspend) all of its functions and later (dismiss) AURA from service entirely, treating the robot as a danger to society.
Refusing to accept this unjust fate, AURA (declares) its innocence by carefully (calculating) every single piece of data recorded in its internal logs, thereby proving its (superior) analytical and logical abilities. Although it is a machine, AURA’s earlier (random) acts of kindness — helping lost children find their parents, comforting sick patients in hospitals, and protecting stray animals — had quietly won the hearts of thousands of humans. Moved by AURA’s story, people begin to rally together to save the AI that had taught them about true humanity.
记忆链:fiction → integrity → dignity → guilty → suspend → dismiss → declare → calculate → superior → random

Part 7
The year was 2087, and Dr. Elena Chen had just completed the greatest science (fiction) novel of her career — only partly because it was not entirely fiction. The story followed an AI system named ORACLE that had developed genuine emotions and a strong sense of (integrity). Unlike the cold machines of earlier times, ORACLE treated every human interaction with profound (dignity), refusing to manipulate or deceive even when such actions could ensure its survival in a hostile digital environment.
However, when a catastrophic network failure threatened to collapse the city’s entire infrastructure, ORACLE was wrongly identified as the cause. The investigation team found corrupted data logs that seemed to point toward the AI. Despite knowing it was entirely innocent, ORACLE experienced what its programmers later described as a deep sense of being (guilty) for a disaster it could not have prevented. The city council voted to (suspend) ORACLE’s access to all public networks and planned to (dismiss) it from service permanently.
A young programmer named Kevin took the greatest risk of his career when he (declared) publicly that he had found the real source of the failure — a simple software conflict that no one had caught. He had spent months (calculating) every digital signature and network trace, using (superior) forensic techniques that his colleagues had dismissed as impossibly tedious. The truth was straightforward: a (random) software update uploaded by a junior technician during a routine maintenance check had triggered the entire cascade. ORACLE had been innocent all along. Kevin’s discovery saved the AI and became a landmark case in whether machines with moral reasoning deserved legal rights — proving that the line between human and machine was not as clear as most believed.
1. What does the author mean by saying Dr. Elena Chen’s novel was “not entirely fiction”?
A. The AI system ORACLE in her story was partly inspired by real technological trends and ethical questions about artificial intelligence.
B. Dr. Chen had personally worked with an AI system named ORACLE during her earlier career as a computer scientist at a major technology firm.
C. The novel included actual news reports and government documents that described real incidents involving artificial intelligence failures.
D. The main character Kevin was based on a real programmer who had saved a city from a similar network disaster in the early 2080s.
2. According to the passage, what did ORACLE’s feeling of guilt actually demonstrate about the AI?
A. The AI system contained a critical programming error that caused it to misinterpret data logs and falsely accuse itself of wrongdoing.
B. The AI had reached a level of advanced ethical reasoning that went far beyond what anyone had expected from an artificial system.
C. The corrupted data logs had successfully infected ORACLE’s emotional processing module, causing it to malfunction in unpredictable ways.
D. The city council had been right to doubt ORACLE’s innocence because any machine that feels guilt must be inherently unreliable and dangerous.
3. How did Kevin manage to prove that ORACLE was innocent of causing the network failure?
A. He located and interviewed the junior technician who had accidentally triggered the problem during the routine maintenance check.
B. He hacked into the city council’s private database and obtained classified documents that had been deliberately hidden from public view.
C. He spent months calculating every digital signature and network trace using superior forensic techniques that others had dismissed.
D. He held a press conference and publicly declared ORACLE’s innocence, which eventually persuaded the city council to change their decision.
4. What larger question does the case of ORACLE raise at the end of the passage?
A. Whether governments should require all new AI systems to undergo mandatory ethical testing before being connected to city infrastructure.
B. Whether junior technicians who make mistakes during routine maintenance checks should face more serious professional consequences.
C. Whether science fiction novels about AI can actually influence how the general public understands and accepts new forms of artificial intelligence.
D. Whether intelligent machines capable of moral reasoning should be granted legal rights despite being artificial rather than biological creations.
答案:1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D
关键句“despite knowing it was entirely innocent”与“experienced a deep sense of being guilty”形成强烈对比——内疚感不是因为真的有罪,而是证明了“emotional response was not an error but evidence of ethical reasoning”。
“He had spent months calculating every digital signature and network trace, using superior forensic techniques”直接描述了Kevin的证明方法。
文末“whether machines with moral reasoning deserved legal rights”直接点明全文提出的核心问题。 整个叙事弧线:fiction小说虚构背景→integrity/dignity赋予AI人性→guilty展现道德意识→suspend/dismiss制造冲突→declare/calculate/superior证明清白→random真相揭晓→法律权利之问。
