Cooling down, of course. But if that’s all, wouldn’t a piece of paper work as well? Actually, fans are far more than just cooling tools. In history, they have played surprising roles. About 2000 years ago, fans first appeared to cool people or drive away insects. Later, they were also used in ceremonies (典礼), dances, plays and even wars! Worldwide, there were two main types of fans: the rigid fan and the folding fan. Rigid fans were commonly made of feathers, wood or bone. But folding fans were usually made of bamboo, paper or silk. China and Japan have rich fan culture. In both countries, educated people considered fans as a source (来源) of inspiration and a way to practice their calligraphy (书法). Fan painting then became an important art form. The surfaces were often painted with pictures of animals or plants. Asian fan culture found its way to Europe in the 16th century. In the 18th century, European ladies used fans creatively to send secret messages. A fan language developed based on how fans were opened, closed, held or moved. For example, by raising an open fan in the left hand to cover part of the face, the lady was saying “I’d like to meet you.” As fans spread across the world and played more roles, they became a cultural symbol and living bridge—connecting past and present, East and West, through their beauty and stories. 46. How does the writer start the text? A. By telling a story. B. By listing numbers. C. By asking questions. D. By giving an example. 47. The materials of rigid fans usually include ________. ①feather ②bone ③bamboo ④silk A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②④ D. ③④ 48. According to Paragraph 4, which picture shows “I’d like to meet you”? A. B. C. D. 49. What would be the best title for the text? A. The spread of rigid and folding fans. B. Fans, the living bridges to the future. C. Japanese fan culture: shaping the world. D. From cooling tool to cultural symbol. 【答案】46. C 47. A 48. B 49. A 50. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了扇子不只是降温工具,在历史中扮演了多样且重要的角色。 【46题详解】 推理判断题。根据“What is a fan used for?”可知,作者通过提出问题,引出主题,开始这篇文章的。故选C。 【47题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Rigid fans were commonly made of feathers, wood or bone.”可知,硬扇通常由羽毛、木材或骨头制成。故选A。 【48题详解】 细节理解题。根据“For example, by raising an open fan in the left hand to cover part of the face, the lady was saying ‘I’d like to meet you.’”可知,左手举扇子遮住脸的一部分,意思是“我想见见你”。对照图片,B符合。故选B。 【49题详解】 细节理解题。根据“About 2000 years ago, fans first appeared to cool people or drive away insects.”可知,扇子是大约2000年前发明的。故选A。 【50题详解】 最佳标题题。根据“Actually, fans are far more than just cooling tools. A fire had broken out her room and woke her. Hearing her, my older brother jumped into action, running from room to room quickly waking everyone in the house. The house, however, was over 50 years old and made of wood. Before we could do anything, the fire burned it out. Luckily, we all ran outside before the fire took hold of every room. ② I stood there shivering (发抖). I watched helplessly while my mom cried and my dad sighed (叹气). I wondered what was going to happen to us now that we lost all of our things. ③ The things that matter aren’t things. I saw my older brother running across the bridge near our house to get help. I saw my oldest brother who was on his walking stick standing unsteadily on one leg. I saw my grandma and dad wrapped in each other’s arms and my mom holding our little dog. I realized at that moment that we were all alive. Everything that was meaningful survived the fire. Our lives would continue. We would all be around to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered. ④ I still think of that fire in the night. It helped me to become who I am today. It showed me for the very first time what is truly meaningful in this life. It helped me to learn that the love we share is far more important than the things we own. Live your life for the things that matter, not for the things you own. Love others. Let the fire inside of you make this world a warmer place. 51. From the first two paragraphs, we can know ________. A. it didn’t take long to burn the house out B. we were all woken by the fire C. the fire happened in an early morning D. all of us tried to put out the fire 52. Which sentence best expresses the central theme in the text? A. We were helpless because we had lost all of our things. B. Everything that was meaningful had survived the fire. C. Her mother, Violet, was 72 years old. “Mom had always been full of energy and enthusiasm.” says Wright. “But after Dad died, she didn’t take care of herself and got sick a lot.” Wright’s mother didn’t feel that she had much to live for—except a dog named Buddy. “I never paid much attention to Buddy when my husband was alive,” says Violet. “But suddenly he depended on me for his survival.” Most people agree that a pet adds joy to a person’s life. This can be more true after a loved one dies. Scientists are now finding that having a pet may keep its owner healthy. And good health may add years to a person’s life. Scientists have been looking at the tie between pets and health for years. In 1990, a study was done with people who aged 65 and older. It showed that pet owners went to the doctor less than people without pets. Do pets make people happier? Do they help people live on their own longer? Are people able to handle their everyday lives better? Alan Beck is the head of the Center for the Human-Animal Bond. Beck says that if the answer to these questions is yes, then having pets may be a good idea. Can pets also help people live longer? Rebecca Johnson did a study to find out. She shared the findings of her study at a meeting about Pets and Aging. Her study shows that having pets may cause people to age more slowly. The human body makes many chemicals. Some of the chemicals make people feel good. Others make people feel bad. In Johnson’s study, levels of the “good” chemicals rose when people were around pets. Levels of the “bad” chemicals went down. The good chemicals seemed to slow the aging of cells. If this is true, maybe people should spend more time with their pets. Then the levels of good chemicals will go up. People might feel better and age more slowly. They might even live longer. Having pets may also be good for people in nursing homes. In a study of five nursing homes with pets, 25% fewer people stay in bed all day. And sores caused by being in bed were down 57%. Having pets around was good for the workers too. They missed work 48% less than before the pets came. Of course, you could be allergic (过敏的) to pets. Or you may not want to take care of a pet. Never fear. A robotic, or computer, pet may be just the thing for you. Scientists are testing computer pets, like the robotic dog AIBO. They want to see if computer pets can help people the way real dogs do. Will a robotic pet take the place of the pet pal snuggling with you on the sofa? Something tells us that the furry couch potato lying next to you has little to worry about. 55. A. B. C. D. 49. Which of the following is TRUE? A. Fans came out around 2000 years ago. B. Fans were only used in ceremonies. C. Fan painting was from ancient Japan. D. European ladies enjoyed creating fans. 50. What would be the best title for the text? A. The spread of rigid and folding fans. B. Fans, the living bridges to the future. C. Japanese fan culture: shaping the world. D. From cooling tool to cultural symbol. B I was 11 years old standing outside in just my underwear while I watched the house where I grew up burning to the ground. ① A few minutes earlier I was in bed when my grandma’s scream woke me up. The sentence “As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time:” can be put at ________. A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④ 53. The sentence “The things that matter” refers to (指的是) ________. A. what was going to happen B. the fire burned our house out C. my mom cried and my dad sighed D. we all survived and would stay together 54. Which sentence best expresses the central theme in the text? A. We were helpless because we had lost all of our things. B. Everything that was meaningful had survived the fire. C. The fire helped me to become the person who I am today. D. The love we share is far more important than what we own. C When her father died, Karen Wright was very worried. 55. What does the writer want to say through Violet’s experiences? A. Buddy added some joy to Violet’s life. B. Violet was too old to take care of herself. C. Violet depended on Karen for everything. D. Buddy mattered much to Violet’s husband. 56. What can we learn about people aged 65 or more from the study in 1990? A. Keeping pets helped them live longer. B. Pet owners could deal with problems better. C. Keeping pets had nothing to do with their health. D. Pet owners needed less medical care than non-pet owners. 57. Which opinion is Johnsan’s finding on having pets? A. It may reduce the chance of going to bed. B. It may teach nurses to care for older people. C. It may increase the level of “good” chemicals. D. It may stop the producing of “bad” chemicals. 58. How does the writer make Paragraph 6 powerful? A. By telling stories. B. By asking questions. C. By giving the reason. D. By making comparison. D Nowadays, more and more people like ready-to-cook meals (预制菜). Ready-to-cook meals are everywhere. You can see them in supermarkets, in online orders, and even in convenience stores. What are they? They are pre-made dishes. Workers wash, cut and cook the food first. Then, people buy them and only need to heat or cook a little to eat. Why are ready-to-cook meals popular? First, people are busy. Ready-to-cook meals save time. Second, they are easy to make. Even students can heat them for a quick dinner. Third, there are many kinds, like braised pork (红烧肉) and kung pao chicken. But some people worry about them. They think the meals have too many additives (添加剂). Other people say they lose nutrients (营养). But scientists say, if the additives meet the rules, they are safe. And choosing meals that go bad fast is better for nutrition. How to choose good ready-to-cook meals? Look at the food list. Pick meals with simple food materials. Also, check the nutrition paper. Try to avoid meals with too much oil or salt. The government is helping this kind of food develop well. It makes rules to keep the meals safe, like checking additives and letting us know what’s in the food clearly. 59. What do people need to do before eating ready-to-cook meals? A. Wash and cut them.
