① Watch a video.
The teacher plays a short video about the evolution of Chinese characters to arouse students' interest and activate background knowledge.
② Free talk.
Guess the characters by looking at the pictures.
The teacher shows pictures of ancient Chinese characters and asks students to guess the modern characters they represent: 木;山;水;鼎;羊;家;走;米
2. Pre-reading.
Ask students to look at the title and picture provided in the textbook. And then predict what the text will be about. (Activity 1)

3. While-reading.
① Ask students to skim through the text and choose the correct answer.
