A
Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world. Rising temperatures might boost crop production in cold regions but negatively impact production in warmer areas. Wheat and rice — which benefit from more CO2 in the atmosphere — could see growing output, while corn and sorghum (高粱) could see a decline with warmer temperatures.
Farmers can adjust their practices to a warmer climate in four key ways:
Farmers can change WHAT they plant. This could be an entirely different type of crop: corn instead of wheat. Or a different variety of a specific crop.
FOUR KEY WAYS
Farmers can change WHERE crops are planted. If temperatures rise in fall, crop production can shift north or southwards towards more suitable temperatures.
Farmers can change HOW crops are managed. Giving crops the right amount of water, nutrition, and protection from insects and disease can help reduce some impacts of climate change.
Farmers can change WHEN they plant. Farmers can plant earlier or later in the year, depending on when spring arrives. Adjusting planting dates requires no additional cost or work.
A recent study by experts modeled three adaptation methods — changing WHAT, changing WHEN and changing both of them. The chart below shows their impact on the output of corn, rice, sorghum, soybean (大豆) and wheat.
These three adaptation methods can already go some way to relieve climate pressures in some countries. But, of course, we don't only care about crop production at the global level. If farmers in particular regions — especially those that are most food-insecure — cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem. So there is more we can do in the future.
1.What should farmers change if they are short of money and labour?
A.WHAT. B.WHERE. C.HOW. D.WHEN.
2.Which crop may benefit most if farmers plant improved varieties?
A.Rice. B.Corn. C.Sorghum. D.Wheat.
3.What should be done in the future?
A.To adopt the three methods. B.To help the farmers in need.
C.To focus on crop production. D.To move to colder regions.

根据表格中“Adjusting planting dates requires no additional cost or work.(调整种植日期不需要额外的成本或工作。)”
故选A。
文章最后一段指出“If farmers in particular regions — especially those that are most food-insecure — cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem.(如果特定地区的农民(尤其是那些粮食供应最不稳定的地区农民)无法适应气候变化,那么这仍然是一个重大问题。)”

Four years ago, Alastair Driver was made director of Rewilding Britain, a charity with a mission to shake up conservation in the UK. Rewilding, in theory, is to restore land and let nature take back control. Once he got started, he fell in love with conservation all over again. Alastair’s goal is to make the concept mainstream. So far, he’s moving in the right direction. “The British government is including rewilding in future farming policy,” he says.
If anyone knows what’s good for Britain’s wild spaces, it’s Alastair. His father was a country naturalist, so the natural world played a big role in his life from an early age. After studying ecology at university, he went on to become a conservation officer for the Thames Water Authority, where he spent 34 years preserving rivers and wetlands. Then, in 2002, Alistair took charge of the Environment Agency, shaping national policy and strategy until 2016.
Now, he believes rewilding is the next step for nature restoration in the UK and it needs to happen on a much larger scale. As such, Alastair spends most of his time travelling around the UK, meeting with landowners, advising them about the advantages of rewilding their land, and offering practical tips for getting started. In just four years, he’s seen a massive uptake in interest. In the early days, Alastair would literally ring around his contact list to get people involved; now, he can hardly cope with emails and calls coming his way. Part of this change is a symptom of the bigger environmental challenges facing mankind. “People are more aware of climate change and the biodiversity crisis,” he says.
Towards the end of 2020, with Alastair’s continuous efforts, the Rewilding Network was launched, a platform where farmers and landowners can connect, share ideas, and seek expert advice. Currently, just over 200, 000 acres of land are being rewilded through the network. For Alastair, it’s a huge step in the right direction.
4.What is Alastair’s goal in Rewilding?
A.To regain his interest in conservation.
B.To force the government to make policies.
C.To get the idea recognized by most people.
D.To advertise the charity for more donations.
5.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.What Alastair studied in the past.
B.When Alastair started conservation.
C.How Alastair’s father influences him.
D.Why Alastair knows much about nature.
6.Why does people’s attitude towards rewilding change?
A.Alastair puts efforts to promote rewilding.
B.Alastair has faith in the value of rewilding.
C.People face fewer environmental challenges.
D.People are taught measures to rewild the land.
7.What can we learn from Alastair’s story?
A.Don’t judge a book by its cover.
B.Birds of a feather flock together.
C.A devoted soul can achieve his goal.
D.A man becomes learned by asking questions.
【答案】4.C 5.D 6.A 7.C

根据第一段的“Alastair’s goal is to make the concept mainstream.(阿拉斯泰尔的目标是让这一概念成为主流。)”
根据第二段的“His father was a country naturalist, so the natural world played a big role in his life from an early age. After studying ecology at university, he went on to become a conservation officer for the Thames Water Authority, where he spent 34 years preserving rivers and wetlands. Then, in 2002, Alistair took charge of the Environment Agency, shaping national policy and strategy until 2016.(他的父亲是一个乡村自然主义者,所以自然世界在他很小的时候就在他的生活中扮演了重要的角色。在大学学习生态学之后,他成为了泰晤士河水务局的一名保护官员,在那里他花了34年的时间保护河流和湿地。然后,在2002年,阿利斯泰尔掌管环境局,制定国家政策和战略直到2016年。)”可知,第二段主要讲的是Alastair Driver的学习和工作历程,因此是关于为什么阿拉斯泰尔对自然如此了解。故选D。
6.推理判断题。根据第三段的“As such, Alastair spends most of his time travelling around the UK, meeting with landowners, advising them about the advantages of rewilding their land, and offering practical tips for getting started.(因此,阿拉斯泰尔的大部分时间都在英国各地旅行,会见土地所有者,向他们建议重新野生化土地的好处,并提供实用的入门建议。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段的“Towards the end of 2020, with Alastair’s continuous efforts, the Rewilding Network was launched, a platform where farmers and landowners can connect, share ideas, and seek expert advice. Currently, just over 200, 000 acres of land are being rewilded through the network. For Alastair, it’s a huge step in the right direction.(到2020年底,在阿拉斯泰尔的持续努力下,野生动物重返网络(rewild Network)成立了,这是一个农民和土地所有者可以联系、分享想法和寻求专家建议的平台。目前,有超过20万英亩的土地正在通过这个网络进行野生化。对阿拉斯泰尔来说,这是朝着正确方向迈出的一大步。)”可知,在阿拉斯泰尔的持续努力下,野生化取得了很大的进展,因此这个故事告诉我们一个有热诚的灵魂能达到他的目标。故选C。

Like many people over the past years, I have found myself switching to audiobooks as my main means of reading literature. After days of looking at my laptop, I find it far more comfortable to “read with my ears” while my eyes are resting. My consumption of new books has doubled as a result — but a recent paper makes me wonder if this will come at the price of my comprehension. When we listen to text, it seems, we may engage in less thinking and rely more on instinct (直觉) to evaluate its content.
The study comes from Boaz Keysar and Janet Geipel, both then at the University of Chicago, and it draws from a mental process model popularized in Daniel Kahneman’s best-selling book Thinking, Fast and Slow. According to this view of the mind, we have two ways of assessing information. System I is instinctive, relying on instinct and feeling. It is quick, but at the risk of misinformation and thinking mistake. System II is analytical: When it is engaged, we think our way through the materials step by step. It is more effortful but also more sensible.
Geipel and Keysar investigated whether the sensory style — seeing or hearing — of the information would make a difference. They found that it did: When answering simple‑but‑misleading questions, participants were significantly more likely to make errors when the sentences were spoken out loud rather than written. The researchers repeated the experiment with a greater range of tasks, in more diverse populations. The results were the same: when listening rather than reading, people were more likely to depend on system I.
A greater reliance on instinct could be a problem if we are consuming information that needs logical examination. If I am tackling a book about science I want to be sure I am fully engaged, not just nodding along the vague arguments. For this reason, I will return to reading non‑fiction with my eyes rather than my ears. But I won’t stop listening to novels. If I’m enjoying a story, I am quite happy to go with the flow of my emotions while my critical mind takes a break.
8.Why does the author prefer audiobooks?
A.They provide better comprehension.
B.They allow the eyes to have a break.
C.They are cheaper than physical books.
D.They are more popular among friends.
9.What does the study conducted by Geipel and Keysar aim to investigate?
A.The popularity of audiobooks.
B.The effects of visual processing.
C.The roles of sensory styles in comprehension.
D.The impact of reading on cognitive development.
10.What causes the author to return to reading non‑fiction with eyes?
A.The need for logical analysis.
B.An interest in critical thinking.
C.A preference for visual learning.
D.The intention to improve efficiency.
11.What is the author’s attitude towards audiobooks?
A.Cautious. B.Favorable. C.Objective. D.Doubtful.

根据第一段中的“After days of looking at my laptop, I find it far more comfortable to “read with my ears” while my eyes are resting.(在连续几天盯着笔记本电脑后,我发现用耳朵阅读、让眼睛休息要舒服得多)”可知,作者偏爱有声书是因为有声书能让眼睛休息。
根据第三段中的“Geipel and Keysar investigated whether the sensory style — seeing or hearing — of the information would make a difference.(盖佩尔与基萨尔研究信息的感官形式 —— 看或是听 —— 是否会产生不同效果)”可知,该研究旨在探究感官形式在信息理解中的作用。
根据第四段中的“A greater reliance on instinct could be a problem if we are consuming information that needs logical examination. If I am tackling a book about science I want to be sure I am fully engaged, not just nodding along the vague arguments. For this reason, I will return to reading non‑fiction with my eyes rather than my ears. (如果我们接收需要逻辑审视的信息,过度依靠直觉会成为一个问题。如果我在读一本科学类书籍,我想要确保自己全身心投入,而非笼统认同模糊的论点。出于这个原因,我会重新用眼睛阅读纪实类作品,而不是靠耳朵听)”可知,纪实类读物需要逻辑分析,所以作者选择用眼睛看这类作品。
11.推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Like many people over the past years, I have found myself switching to audiobooks as my main means of reading literature.(过去几年里,我和许多人一样,转而把有声书当作阅读文学作品的主要方式)”体现作者认可有声书的优势;再根据第四段中的“A greater reliance on instinct could be a problem if we are consuming information that needs logical examination.(如果我们接收需要逻辑审视的信息,过度依靠直觉会成为一个问题)”与“But I won’t stop listening to novels. If I’m enjoying a story, I am quite happy to go with the flow of my emotions while my critical mind takes a break.(但我不会停止听小说。如果我沉浸在故事里,我很乐意跟随情绪流动,让批判性思维休息片刻)”可知,作者既指出听读不利于逻辑思考的短板,又承认其适合小说阅读的长处,态度客观中立。

Philosophers have a bad reputation for expressing themselves in a dry and boring way. The ideals for most philosophical writing are precision, clarity, and the sort of conceptual analysis that leaves no hair un-split.
There is nothing wrong with clarity, precision, and the like — but this isn’t the only way to do philosophy. Outside academic journals, abstract philosophical ideas are often expressed through literature, cinema, and song. There’s nothing that grabs attention like a good story, and there are some great philosophical stories that delight and engage, rather than putting the reader to sleep.
One of the great things about this is that, unlike formal philosophy, which tries to be very clear, stories don’t wear their meanings on their sleeve — they require interpretation, and often express conflicting ideas for the reader to wrestle with.
Consider what philosophers call the metaphysics (形而上学) of race — an area of philosophy that explorers the question of whether or not race is real. There are three main positions that you can take on these questions. You might think that a person’s race is written in their genes (a position known as “biological realism”). Or you might think of race as socially real, like days of the week or currencies (“social constructionism”). Finally, you might think that races are unreal — that they’re more like leprechauns (一种魔法精灵) than they are like Thursdays or dollars (“anti-realism”).
A great example of a story with social constructionist taking on race is George Schuyler’s novel Black No More. In the book, a Black scientist named Crookman invents a procedure that makes Black people visually indistinguishable from Whites. Thousands of African Americans flock to Crookman’s Black No More clinics and pay him their hard-earned cash to undergo the procedure. White racists can no longer distinguish those people who are “really” White from those who merely appear to be White. In a final episode, Crookman discovers that new Whites are actually a whiter shade of pale than those who were born that way, which kicks off a trend of sunbathing to darken one’s skin-darkening it so as to look more While.
Philosophically rich stories like this bring more technical works to life. They are stories to think with.
12.What does the author think of philosophical stories?
A.The meaning behind is very obvious.
B.They are extremely precise and formal.
C.They often cause conflicts among readers.
D.They are engaging and inspire critical thinking.
13.Which category might “Christmas” fall into according to paragraph 4?
A.Social constructionism. B.Anti-realism.
C.Biological realism. D.Literary realism.
14.What is Black No More in paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.Racial issues caused by skin colors.
B.A society view on race and self-image.
C.Black people accepted by the white society.
D.The origin of sun bathing among white people.
15.What is the best title of the text?
A.Stories Made Easy B.Stories to Think with
C.Positions in Philosophy D.Nature of Philosophical Writing

根据第二段“There’s nothing that grabs attention like a good story, and there are some great philosophical stories that delight and engage, rather than putting the reader to sleep.(没有什么能像一个好故事那样吸引人的注意力,有一些伟大的哲学故事会让读者感到愉悦和吸引人,而不是让读者昏昏欲睡)”以及第三段“One of the great things about this is that, unlike formal philosophy, which tries to be very clear, stories don’t wear their meanings on their sleeve — they require interpretation, and often express conflicting ideas for the reader to wrestle with.(这其中最重要的一点是,与形式哲学不同的是,故事并不会把自己的意思挂在明面上——它们需要解释,而且常常表达出相互矛盾的观点,让读者纠结)”可知,哲学故事可以使读者有参与感和激发批判性思维。故选D项。
根据第四段“Consider what philosophers call the metaphysics (形而上学) of race — an area of philosophy that explorers the question of whether or not race is real. There are three main positions that you can take on these questions. You might think that a person’s race is written in their genes (a position known as “biological realism”). Or you might think of race as socially real, like days of the week or currencies (“social constructionism”). Finally, you might think that races are unreal — that they’re more like leprechauns (一种魔法精灵) than they are like Thursdays or dollars (“anti-realism”).(让我们来考虑一下哲学家所称之为种族的形而上学——这是探究种族是否真实的哲学问题。关于这个问题,你可能持有三个主要观点。你可能认为一个人的种族写在他们的基因中(被称为“生物现实主义”)。或者,你可能认为种族是社会上真实存在的,就像星期几或货币一样(“社会建构主义”)。最后,你可能认为种族是虚幻的——它们更像一种魔法精灵而不是星期四或美元(“反现实主义”))”可知,Christmas为一个节日,是社会的共有认知,应属于“社会建构主义”。故选A项。
根据第五段“A great example of a story with social constructionist taking on race is George Schuyler’s novel Black No More. In a final episode, Crookman discovers that new Whites are actually a whiter shade of pale than those who were born that way, which kicks off a trend of sunbathing to darken one’s skin-darkening it so as to look more While.(一个以社会建构主义观点来探讨种族问题的精彩例子是乔治·斯库勒的小说《不再是黑人》。
根据第一段“Philosophers have a bad reputation for expressing themselves in a dry and boring way. The ideals for most philosophical writing are precision, clarity, and the sort of conceptual analysis that leaves no hair un-split.(哲学家以枯燥乏味的方式表达自己而臭名昭著。大多数哲学作品的理想是精确、清晰,以及那种不留痕迹的概念分析)”以及最后一段“Philosophically rich stories like this bring more technical works to life. They are stories to think with.(像这样富有哲理的故事给生活带来了更多的技术作品。它们是用来思考的故事)”以及纵观全文可知,文章主要介绍了哲学的抽象而复杂的理念往往是通过一个个有趣的小故事的形式体现的,它会启发读者思考,所以B项“Stories to Think with(可供思考的故事)”是本文最好的标题。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下列短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Critical (批判的) thinking is the art of using reason to analyze ideas and dig deeper to get to our true potential. It doesn’t mean you’re thinking harder or longer. 16 Here are some tips and ideas to help you build a foundation for critical thinking.
Question your assumptions. We make a lot of assumptions about almost everything. It’s how our brain processes certain pieces of information, and how we get along in everyday life. You could say they are the foundation of our critical framework. 17 Then the whole foundation needs to be rebuilt, from the bottom up.
Don’t take information on authority until you've investigated it yourself. Instead of double-checking everything anyone says, we tend to label information as either coming from a trustworthy or not trustworthy source. This keeps us from double-checking every piece of information that comes our way, saving time and energy. But it also keeps us from getting to the bottom of things we think of as coming from a trustworthy source, even when they don’t. 18
Put yourself in other people’s shoes. Empathy can also help you develop your critical thinking skills. 19 You may find that a little understanding facilitates a deeper insight into other people and their behavior. The deeper your insight into yourself and others, the wiser your decisions will be.
20 There is no way to learn better than learning from your friends. If you only want to be a big fish swimming in the little pond just because your ego (自负) feels good, keep this part. If you are wondering about how to develop critical skills, make friends with smart people and throw away your ego.
A.Actually, it’s about thinking better.
B.Surround yourself with people smarter than you.
C.Be someone that people know that they can count on.
D.You should not judge others until you fully understand their situation.
E.But what if they turned out to be wrong, or at least not entirely truthful?
F.The reason is that understanding does not always go with the right action.
G.So what is published in a magazine or online doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true.

Mary was the art teacher for primary school students. On this particular day, she was guiding them through the process of drawing a scenic landscape. Akila yawned(打哈欠), clearly disinterested - drawing wasn’t her thing. A small group of students gathered around Tina, laughing at her unusual drawing: a sun sporting sunglasses and trees topped with ice cream cones.
Mary instructed Tina firmly but with unease, “Draw it the way I showed you.” As the lesson continued, doubt crept into Mary’s mind. Had the joy of creativity been overshadowed by the pressure to fit in? She scanned the room, observing her students’ faces – some concentrated, others uncertain. Akila’s disinterest was clear and Tina’s imaginative drawing had been met with ridicule instead of praise.
After class, Mary sat down with Tina, her tone softening, “Why did you draw the sun with sunglasses and the trees with ice creams?” she asked gently.
Tina’s eyes sparkled with a touch of rebellion (叛逆)-“I love ice cream, and I thought the sun would look cool with sunglasses. Why do we always have to draw like everyone else?”
Mary paused, her thoughts racing. Tina’s drawings weren’t just curious —they were a window into a world where imagination ruled, where rales could be bent into delightful chaos. Was she, by enforcing a rigid style, killing that very creativity?
The next morning, Mary walked into the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose. She placed a large sheet of paper in front of the class and announced a new project: they would create a collective(集体的)artwork titled “Our Dream World” with no rules. They were free to use colors, shapes, and patterns however they wished.
At first, the students hesitated, unsure of this newfound freedom. Akila leaned back, skeptical of what seemed like another pointless exercise. But Tina, her creativity no longer restricted, eagerly grabbed her crayons and began to draw with abandon. Then, Maya joined in. And then Michael...

Mary stood back and surveyed the creation.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: As the students worked. Mary observed them with curiosity. She noticed how Akila, initially disinterested, had quietly chosen vibrant colors and was now blending them together to create a swirling sky filled with fantastical creatures that flew over a stone castle. Meanwhile, Tina was enthusiastically adding playful details to her section of the paper-a whimsical garden where flowers wore hats and creatures rested on the ice cream-topped trees. Mary felt a wave of relief washed over her. The room was alive with chatter and laughter, as Akila and Tina frequently exchanged ideas and inspired one another. Akila even leaned over to admire Tina’s ice cream trees and said, “That is mind-blowing!” It was wonderful to see them cooperate, their initial differences melting away in the warmth of shared creativity.
Paragraph 2: Mary stood back and surveyed the creation. The enomious canvas had transformed into a magnificent portrayal of each student’s imagination, forming a breathtaking landscape that reflected their individuality yet spoke to their collective spirit. Mary felt a sense of pride swell within her; she realized that in letting go of rigid structures, her students gave their painting an unrealistic but dream-like quality. Akila, Tina, and the rest of the class had not only embraced their own creative paths but had also nurtured each other’s ideas. They were thrilled, “It was the best painting ever! We should definitely hang it on the wall!” Inspired by the moment, Mary decided to host an exhibition of their dream world, inviting parents and other classes to admire the beauty of imagination unleashed in her classroom.

A
Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world.

D.Doubtful.
